But see….the video isnt' doing that. The video is making fun of liberals who have tried over decades to advance thoughtful energy policies. The video is a four minute screed directed against Democrats.

The definition of bias is seeing and hearing what one wants to hear or see.

When I was looking for a car about three years ago, the Prius was the first one I looked at, but my knees were against the dash and my head was against the roof, so I had to forget it. I ended up in a Buick. What year is your Prius ? Maybe they are making them more roomy now. I haven't looked at them lately. I haven't looked at the Focus either, but I'll keep it in mind. I'm looking for a balance between a car that's not a gas guzzler and a car that doesn't pack me in like a sardine.

The Pelosi GT model is definitely out, lol.

My hubby is 6'4", and he says he's comfortable driving my Prius. He traded his truck in for a motorcycle. He gets the same mileage but for about $25,000 less. I get the car, because I'm the one who gets to take the kids back and forth from school.

Now that I'm hearing all this great stuff about the Focus hybrid station wagon, I'm interested. Have you checked them out? I've heard varying reports on whether they're good for tall people, but it might be worth looking into?

I agree, America needs oil, and will for a long, long time. Doesn't it then follow that we should get as much as we can from our own oil reserves ? We could completely eliminate the need for all Middle Eastern oil if we did that. There is no logical reason not to do it. Only politics stands in the way. It's infuriating. Nobody is saying we shouldn't pursue alternative energy sources. Nobody. That's a red herring. As I said before, it should be 'all of the above," and that's what the GOP's position is. They are correct.

I'd be driving a hybrid now too if I could fit into one, but I'm 6' 5", and I don't fit in any of them, especially the Japanese ones. I'm with you on the incredible hypocrisy of people like Al Gore, who probably wastes more energy in a month than you and I do in a decade. Obama is another one. He wasted energy and spewed carbon flying all the way to Missouri for his 100-day news conference. Why ? He could have done it from the White House. He flew all the way to Iowa to sign his stimulus bill. There's no reason for this stuff, and you'd think a President who wanted to push green initiatives and conserve energy would want to lead by example. I guess that's only for everyone else, not elites like Gore, Obama, and Pelosi.

This was fun. I especially loved the flashes of style and dance from the 1970's. I agree that the video might make a deeper point, but Rev is whacked if he thinks it's an insult to anyone. (I'm sending this link to my BIL, who served 2 tours in Iraq.) Except some of the people featured who probably would prefer to forget they ever wore those clothes/hairstyles. Gosh knows I've got a few pics of me in red plaid bell bottoms that I prefer not to think about. (In my defense, though, I was 6 at the time.)

But I digress. I fail to understand how joking about the American move to hybrids and economy cars could ever possibly offend the family of a fallen soldier. Driving a Prius/hybrid isn't just a liberal thing. I'm a conservative leaner, and there's one in my garage. You know my reason for choosing it? I get 45 mpg, fill up one a week for less than $20 versus the days when I drove a van, got 19 mpg and filled up once a week for a little less than $60. No one's attempting to mock the desire to "get off oil". They're totally mocking that the country seems to be returning to days of yore with overkill.

We've been hearing preachy speeches from losers like Gore about conservation, when they're actually bigger users of energy than I'll ever be. How many SUV's does Gore own? The soldiers should be really angry at him, lol. His Escalade gets 12 mpg city/19 mpg highway. I'm tired of having this conservation crap pushed at me by a bunch of hypocrites who don't want make any environmentally sound decisions themselves. There are many American made SUV's he could purchase, but he chose a gas guzzler for himself. That's one of my problems with left wingers like him and Pelosi, the blatant hypocrisy. I could respect them if they lived by what they claim are their beliefs, but they don't.

Rev, there is proof that America can be energy independent and it does have enough oil and fossil fuels to last for hundreds of years. The problem is the same as the last 100 years, the subject is being used as a political tool, just like abortion, gay rights and the other special interest subjects.

dd is right. Where is the savings after all of the extra steps? The answer: There are none. Huge profits are going to be made and they are going to to go into the pockets of the same people that you say ruined our economy. Big business, except theis time it will go to guys like Gore, Pickens, Soros, Pelosi and their buddies. Why do they want to trade carbon credits on the stock exchange? More money, more profit.

I simply asked if YOU thought those families would find it humorous.

America needs oil. America doesn't have enough oil from our own lands, and never will. Therefore, we must rely on countries who do have oil. Middle Eastern countries have the most oil. Foreign policy determinations to interfere, and wars of choice in the Middle East, are the result.

While any attempts to try to get off of oil are mocked by the far-right….like in your video.

It's not that I can't appreciate the humor in mocking liberals, I can.

The problem is….this stuff is serious, not funny.

Do you think that those families, who lost loved ones in America's fight to "protect" our oil under middle eastern sands, would find your mockery video, you know, humorous?

All in good fun…I understand….however, it appears, in the midst of yukking it up, that any attempt, outside of dill, baby, drill,…..higher mileage, alternative sources, etc…..thoughtful, reasonable, scientific attempts….aren't really jokes at all but pressing national concerns.

"Stay the course" was, just in case King missed it, rejected last November.

What I don’t understand is where are we going to get all the electricity and battery components (lead, lithium, nickel). Since coal and nuclear plants are pollute and wind isn’t feasible or available for the vast majority of the country, energy prices are going to sky rocket (not to mention brown outs). Coupled with more dependence on foreign entities for battery components with the continued raping of the Earth by China, Brazil and Russia – countries who have little regard for environmental conservation it just doesn’t add up.

It’s like the compact fluorescent bulbs. First, they take several minutes to completely warm up thus eliminating any type of efficiency gains and dollar savings when the bulb is used in situations where lumination is needed for less than 10 minutes. Secondly, it’s made with mercury in which 70% of the world’s supply is mined and processed in China, a county who treats the earth worse than they treat their people. Lastly, to dispose of the thing, I have to drive (pollute) 20 miles to my local Home Depot instead of using the trash collection service (who will still be driving (and polluting) around anyways). It doesn’t add up.

Can anyone explain how electric cars / batteries and CFL actually help the environment? Isn’t it just a case of moving from one well known problem (carbon) to a lesser known one (lead, mercury, lithium)?

I love the Earth. I appreciate the good intentions of the government but come on… government, you are making things worse! While the cause is noble and right, Kyoto, Cap and Trade, refusing to drill domestically all exasperate the problem. Think. Please.
