Strengthening our economy will be Barack Obama’s priority from day one as president. Months ago he outlined a comprehensive package of economic reforms to help ease the burdens on middle-class and working families while making progress on achieving long-run budget balance. Obama believes the government should take steps to restore the confidence of consumers and businesses that we will not let things get worse and encourage them not to cut back further on their spending and investment. I have just heard word that the payday loan industry’s request not to cap interest rates was denied by the banking commissioner in New Hampshire. Also in, President-elect Barack Obama’s speech on the economy is getting negative responses, even from his fellow Democrats. They seem to be on the watch and quick to address even the slightest predicament on Obama’s economic stimulus plan, and he hasn't even begun to talk about a payday loan. President-elect Barack Obama offered the most detailed statement yet of his economic recovery plan, sketching out broad-based spending proposals and tax incentives aimed at reviving an economy mired in recession. The main goal of his plan: to create 3 million new jobs. Most would come from the private sector. I don’t know if it will have any effect on payday loans, but details about President-elect Barack Obama’s stimulus plan are starting to come out. He calls it the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.” He says he is going to provide assistance for middle and low-income Americans, who are the ones who typically take out payday loans, in the form of tax cuts and invest in infrastructure such as bridges, roads and water mains. He also plans to help states with faltering revenues. Maybe with a little luck his plan will turn the economy around, and Americans will only need payday loans for emergencies, not just to make ends meet.

Bush wanted to wreck Social Security, Medicare, SCHIP and the rest, King, and he wanted to outlaw housing of any kind, all at the suggestion of Cheney. But like the Iran invasion, they just ran out of time.

When Pelosi calls for bipartisanship, what she really means is, the GOP should just side with the Dems. If the GOP doesn't do that, Pelosi and company will call them obstructionist, just as our Rev is doing. When the GOP is in control, of course, Dem resistance is "loyal opposition" or "speaking truth to power." It's all in the Kool-Aid.

I think your opinion that Republicans have wrecked everything during the Bush administration is just a tiny bit disingenuous. Did they wreck Social Security, Medicare, SCHIP ? No. Did they follow any housing plan other than what the Dems wanted ? No. Did they dismantle ANY Dem programs ? No. Did they spend more or less on infrastructure ? They spent more. Did they spend more or less on social services ? They spent more. Did Bush pass any major housing deregulation ? No. Did he kill welfare ? No. Most of what you complain about, Rev, is what Bush did to protect the country following 9/11. That hardly constitutes "everything."

I'm also wondering why you didn't notice that I agreed with Obama on several general economic principles, even though I criticized his lack of specifics, a problem that seems to be nearly constant with him. Maybe you didn't really read what I wrote, or maybe you think Obama is infallible, a god. Either way, you missed the boat.

And the government beast definitely IS part of the problem. Are you forgetting that Bush drastically increased the size of government, the same as Obama proposes to do ? Some change. An increase in the size of government removes money from the pockets of the citizenry. There's no way around that fact. The bigger government gets, the poorer we become. That's been proven throughout history, all over the world.

I am thinking that Rev has missed the words of Nasty Nancy when she said no Republican would be allowed to suggest bills, amendments to bills, and probably be allowed to debate. How do they manage to wreck anything when only her people can take part in House business? Rev, I think that your being one of the original ABBs you have forgotten just what that has entailed for the last 8 years. Think about what you are saying.

The job of Republicans is to impede national progress. That has been made crystal clear in the last 8 years….but it's always been the GOP goal. Gub'mint is the problem, you know.

Now that they have wrecked everything, yes, with spineless Democratic help, their only goal is as you state here….

" If Obama runs trillion dollar deficits for 4 straight years, Republican prospects for a return to power are going to look very, very good in 2012."

Wreck everything that moves, blame their opponents, and then get back to power so they can finish the job.

But at least, King, you are wishing Obama luck.
