"Judging by the reactions here, maybe the government schools are to blame."

Of course, King, of course -- only there's no 'maybe' about it.

Once you begin to analyze things with this insight in mind, the seemingly contradictions dissolve, and things make sense.

Consider: Over a generation of kids have not only been stupefied in general by the public school, but also brainwashed into believe that America is not an exceptional country in spite of all the evidence that we indeed are.

Does that mean all kiddies in the public school have been so crippled? Of course not; just the majority of 'em.

You see these victims of the government schools -- and I'm not speaking of the Negroes who the public schools have literally committed academic genocide on -- posting against you all the time on your own blog.

Their ignorance and illogic is mind-blowing. And what would be humorous if it wasn‘t so pathetic is that these defects do all their blovating with such an air of certitude. It's as if they can turn their quiz answer of 2 + 2 = 5 into being correct just by their insistence.

This is the true mark of a public school victim -- all hot air and no substance; high self-esteem but ignorant in math, science, history, English, Civics, etc., and not to mention reasoning ability.

And it is these people -- the stupefied masses like the Akron Atheist (a.k.a. “The Reverend” ), Rebecca or whatever she’s calling herself these days, along with the legion of government dependents -- more than anything else that is killing the U.S. Constitution, our Republic and prosperity.

This was conveniently left out from what Obama said.....

"But this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is, is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon. And how can we sequester that carbon and capture it. If we can’t, then we’re gonna still be working on alternatives."

Well the paper that gave the interview seems to think it is a lie. What he said is that we should build clean coal technology plants not old technology coal plants. If someone wants to build an old technology plant instead of a clean technology plant then they can but the cost of the cap and trade would bankrupt them. The clean coal technology plants would not have a cap and trade and would be cheaper to build. I did listen to it.

Perhaps those companies did not make any profits because of all the loop holes the Republicans have put into the tax code for big business.

I am done here. Bye everyone.

Let's consider what you said about Exxon.

How was it possible for Exxon to make such a record profit?

Unregulated commodity traders bubblized the cost of crude, completely contrary to normal supply and demand fundamentals. Crude prices, and thus gasoline prices, doubled even though demand had only increased slightly. This created a windfall for Big Oil. Big Oil had done nothing whatsoever to merit those record profits....it was a direct result of a gamed system without oversight.

To prove my point.....why has crude dropped more than 55% recently, and gasoline as well? Has world usage dropped 55%? Of course not. The prices had been artificially gambled up and are now returning to fundamental levels in pricing again.

Exxon didn't deserve those record profits and that's why I'm not going to shed a tear when Obama taxes them.

To try to build some kind of larger socialist case using Exxon as the launching pad is misleading.

Andrea,
Interesting that you say McCain would raise the national debt and Obama will lower it, when McCain said he'll balance the budget in his first term and Obama said it's not a priority for him to balance the budget. Maybe Obama IS magic.

I'm not close to rich, and the financial crisis cost me my job, so don't talk to me about how all I want is personal wealth. If all I cared about was a couple bucks in my pocket and "free" stuff, I'd vote for Obama. What I want is the correct policies to help the country as a whole, as opposed to policies that
will hurt the country financially for generations to come. If you can't see how helping businesses in America succeed is smart policy, then I feel sorry for you.

mary,
I'm mystified as to how quoting Obama's EXACT WORDS could be an outright lie. That's pretty rich.

Of course 2/3rd's of businesses don't pay any taxes - they don't make any profits.

Obama will make new jobs .
Build and fix roads =jobs
New development in energy = jobs
Hold down the national debt and we don't have to take loans from China.
What you didnt say is Mccain will increase the deficet more than Obama. What you want is personal wealth not a rich country. Not everyone earning more than 250k is in any postion to hire anyone. Most small businesses deduct so much they don't pay taxes.
Here is a pie chart on exactly how much Mccains cutting down earmarks will actually mean
http://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/2008/09/john-mccains-bi.html

and who will create the countries biggest deficet ? Mccain

You got me fired up now. Osmosis is a process by which molecules of a solvent pass through a semi-permeable membrane from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution thereby equalizing the concentration on both sides of the membrane. No the wealth of nations does not happen by osmosis because if it did the wealth would be equalized through the population instead of 10% of the population holding 90% or whatever of the wealth. It is about time for the top 10% to put in a permeable membrane so the wealth can begin to equalize some --by osmosis.

King there you go listening to Palin again. Too bad the San Francisco Chronicle has totally debunked her claim the Obama intends to bankrupt the coal industry. They answered her and said it was an out right lie -- or should I say another out right lie. Also the supposed audio tape has been on line available for anyone even you to hear for the last January 17. Read it

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/11/03/EDOO13SU3L.DTL

According to the Government Office of Accountability (GAO) 2/3's of US businesses pay no taxes at all between 1998 and 2005 and 68% of foreign companies operating in US also paid no taxes what so ever in the same time period. Nice loop holes if you ask me.

I retired -- early by choice I might add- from one of those big corporations. I was on the board. I know what did and did not happen. That chemical company thrived as long as the technical and marketing folks had a say in how the business was run. When the financial MBA types started with their magic and the company forgot about the quality, technical expertise, and customer the downhill fall started. I watched the "magic" those accountants performed to make the numbers look good for the shareholders and yup I was one of them. Still I left in disgust because I could and have never regretted my decision for a day. That company has not folded yet but it is a lot smaller and the stock has gone from $43 to last I looked < $2. As you can see my choice to leave was a good one.

No, the wealth of nations don't happen by osmosis but loss of wealth surely comes from Obamosis -- i.e., soft socialism.

America stands at thge edge of an abyss. Could the country's ability to think actually have been so rotted out by the government schools over the years that it will actually electd a fraud like B. Hussein Obama to the presidency?

There's more that's funny about B. Hussein obama than the sounding of his name and his big ears. From his life story to his associates to his policies, the guy is as queer as a three dollar bill.
