Words For Independence Day

I wish you all a happy Fourth of July ! May God bless America, and don't ever take liberty for granted (or it will surely be washed away). Here are some quotes from great men (mostly):

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." — Samuel Adams

"(W)e here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." — Abe Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." — Abraham Lincoln

"You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children (America), the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done." — Ronald Reagan

"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated, and scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, For then it costs nothing to be a patriot." — Mark Twain

"Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be." — John Wayne

"Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom."
– Albert Einstein

"It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from his government." — Thomas Paine

"When all government, domestic and foreign, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will … become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated." — Thomas Jefferson

"Evil triumphs when good men do nothing." — Thomas Jefferson

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." — Benjamin Franklin

"Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may." — Mark Twain

"It is wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago" — Dan Quayle

I see that you and Quayle have discovered one of Obama's 57 states we didn't know about. LOL I am now anxiously the discovery of the other 6 of his states and wondering why he isn't allowed by his staff to go to Hawaii.

This is a very special day in our nation's history and I really wonder just how many of our people know what is special about it. I too often see it celebrated as a day off from work, a day for feasting to gain some weight, sales at all kinds of chain stores with so very little real celebration other than the fireworks displays that make so much money for Chinese citizens.

    Mr. King,
Thank you for the quotes. So many seem to be wwritten especially for the circumstances we find ourselves in today. Today is a good day to reflect upon the fact that freedoms lost are usually lost permanently or until a new revolution occurs.

"When all government, domestic and foreign, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will … become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated." — Thomas Jefferson

"Evil triumphs when good men do nothing." — Thomas Jefferson

Good description of the last 8 years.

    Not something to celebrate.

I like Quayle…on my wall is a plaque he was presented from some group in 1991 when he was VP. I bought it on EBay.

But Rev, do you think the Dems will NOT concentrate all power to Washington D.C. ? If so, you better check again.
