Very Sad Political Things

Posted May 17th, 2008 by Da King

sad

Isn't it sad to see the President Of The United States begging Saudi Arabia to pump more oil ? And then being turned down ? It didn't have to be this way.

Isn't it sad that the war funding bill has to be kicked around like a political football by Congress ? The Democrats attempted to add all sorts of non-war related domestic items to the bill, the Republicans revolted and sat out the vote, and the end result was, the war funding bill was voted down. The troops appreciate your non-support, you sorry politicians.

Isn't it sad that every bill that comes before Congress seems to go over budget and is full of all kinds of unnecessary earmarks to inflate the cost, as was seen in the Farm Bill that Congress sent to Bush's desk ?

Isn't it sad that we've spent a billion dollars on this presidential election race, and we haven't even reached the general election phase yet ? There are still 5 1/2 months until november. This election seems like it's gone on forever. There has to be a better and more cost effective way, not to mention one which doesn't disenfranchise millions of voters in Florida and Michigan.

Isn't it sad how Barack Obama thinks any political opinion that differs from his own is "divisive" and "the politics of fear" ? What an ego. Bush told the Israeli Knesset that he disagreed with those who would negotiate with terrorists and radicals, and Obama went into what John McCain termed "hysterical diatribe" mode to denounce Bush's words. Why is it that Obama's endless attacks against the Bush administration AREN'T "divisive", but Bush says one thing (that wasn't even directed toward Obama) and you'd think the world just collapsed ? Here's just one of many overblown comments from the Obama campaign yesterday:

“Obviously, this is an unprecedented political attack on foreign soil,” Obama Communications Director Robert Gibbs told CNN’s John Roberts.

Ludicrous political theater. It makes Bush's comments sound equivalent to, say, Pearl Harbor. By the way, during his hissy fit, Obama repeated his schizoid foreign policy of NOT negotiating with Hamas because they are a terrorist group, but YES to negotiating with Iran, a state sponsor of terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah, the Iraqi insurgency, and a designated terrorist group themselves (Iranian Revolutionary Guard). Is anyone ever going to call Obama on any of his nonsensical and contradictory rhetoric ? It seems not. He's historic, after all.

Speaking of Obama, here's another in a growing number of very sad quotes from him: "We need to stand up to the special interests, bring Republicans and Democrats together and pass the farm bill immediately". Uh, stand up to WHAT special interests ? The Farm bill by it's nature is a bundle of money thrown at special interests in the form of subsidies. Here are only a few of the special interests being catered to in the Farm bill, courtesy of Jacob Sullum of Townhall.com:

"…tax breaks for racehorse owners, "marketing aid" for fruit and vegetable growers, research funding for organic farmers, enhanced price supports for domestic sugar producers, increased subsidies for dairy farmers, a $170-million earmark for the salmon industry, and billions of dollars in automatic payments and "permanent disaster assistance" for corn, wheat, cotton, rice and soybean growers. Take that, special interests!"

To be accurate, Obama would have to say passing the Farm bill required a bipartisan CAVING IN to special interests (which Congress did, as usual, and it was bipartisan, just as Obama requested). Is anybody really listening to the words coming out of Obama's mouth ? It seems not. The more I hear Obama talk, the less sense he makes.

And the very saddest thing of all on the political front yesterday also involved Obama's words, when Obama criticized the Bush administration for promoting democracy in Palestine and Iraq. I assume this means democracy would no longer be an important part of american foreign policy during an Obama presidency. That would be a major foreign policy reversal. Yeah, who needs liberty and open government ? Bah, humbug. Like I asked before, is anybody listening to the words coming out of Obama's mouth ? Obama said "words count". I couldn't agree more, and Obama's words are scary, not to mention, dare I say, divisive.

Maybe Obama made a mistake yesterday when he said that he welcomed the opportunity to debate either Bush or McCain about foreign policy. If the debate should be held at an unnounced time without him knowing all topics to be discussed I don't think he would fare so well. Now if he knows all questions beforehand like in the debates, so far, he has a chance because he seems to be very good at memorizing but on his own in a situation where he heas to respond to the other debater I think he will hang himself in the first 10 minutes unless he has an ear piece for someone to relate answers to him in. I just don't think he will get his debate but I do think it would be very interesting and that some far lefty wouldn't judge it the same as I would.

Obama can speak semi-coherently on any political subject….

    For about 1-2 minutes.

After that, his planned rhetoric runs out, and he sounds like a complete dope.

The reason Obama is the frontrunner is because he has NEVER been required to talk about any subject for longer than 1-2 minutes. He's the poster boy for eloquent superficial speech. America hasn't noticed yet. Neither has the media.

It is very sad that nobody who doesn't like Bush or Republicans have not noticed these things about Obama. Somehow they never seem to see him stammer and stagger when he runs past that memorized bit of material. I guess we just have too many people who want to see a change and hope he can bring it about. It gets more and more beyond my understanding that there are so many people like that.

I seriously believe that you will be able to post much more after he has been in office a couple of years with a Democrat Congress to help him along to his hoped for socialistic policies. In a couple of years many of those who hoped so hard for his promised changes will be seeing the light and ready to switch, but they will learn that they have another two years to live on hope.

The saddest thing about Obama is that he has no opposition. I don't think that McCain will be any better than Obama will so it makes little difference other than the fact that a Republican President could temper the Congress a bit, if he wanted to and I am not sure he would.

OBAMA—one of those false prophets people fall for.

  5. The Reverend Says:

Your political party is going to concede a Democratic win in the fall. They are. Then they will try to obstruct and undermine any governance attempts by the new Democratic majority. That's what the GOP does.

Digby has described the GOP as an "insurgent" group….and that's pretty accurate. They don't care anything about America or Americans (thing G.W. Bush), they simply and only want to stop the Democrats from being successful at their work.

So yes, roy, that's the plan. The GOP creatures will seek to immediately, upon Obama's inauguration, co-opt the media to only tell Americans a story about Obama and the Democrats which is entirely made up of disinformation. Then they think that their obstructionistic behavior, behavior which is indicative of a totally corrupt, self aggrandizing and ends-justify-the-means thinking….will catapult them back to power in 2012.

    Ain't gonna' happen.

The GOP has defended and excused all of the crimes of Bush. The GOP controlled Congress, up to 2007, was complicit in W's crimes, helping to cover them up and stonewalling, or worse, any attempt to tell the truth to the American people (think Plame). The GOP has led out, through Rove, in propagandizing Americans more than at ANY time in modern history.

Americans have stirred from their bullsh*t War on Terror fear, are seeing events more clearly, and won't be returning the GOP to power anytime soon….if ever.

Why do you think I've written all those posts over the years? Did you think I was just kidding and exaggerating to get a rise out of conservative readers?

George W. Bush has destroyed the GOP as we have known it. I told you what was going to happen as a result of Bush being a maniac. Now what I warned would happen…..is about to happen.

Vote for the best candidate for Americans…..Barack Obama.

    Roy,
I think McCain would be a better president than Obama, though I'm no McCain fan. Since it appears the Dems are going to increase their Congressional majority in november, I think I'd rather have McCain's pushback against at least some liberal issues in place, as opposed to Obama, who will go along with anything the liberal power structure wants done, which would be very harmful to America. That damage could last decades.

    Rev,
I find it very humorous that you think only the GOP is obstructionist. You reinforced the very point I made in my post about how Obama thinks anyone who disagrees with him is "divisive", yet none of Obama's own disagreements are divisive. You evidently believe the same thing, ergo the demonization of the GOP as an "insurgent group" because they have different political beliefs. If one doesn't agree with a liberal, one must be demonized. Y'all crack me up with that bilge, mainly because you don't possess the capability to see the irony and hypocrisy of it. It's the mindset of the brainwashed.

I have given numerous examples on this blog why Obama is not ready to be the president. The best counter-argument you've offered to date is "yes he is". Persuasive (NOT).

  9. Da King Says:

And Rev, I'll have another doozy of a reason why Obama shouldn't be the president tomorrow. Stay tuned.

What would you describe the work of Dirty Harry and his boys in the Senate as being before they took over the Senate. Pure and simple, obstruction is how I saw them. They cared not one whit about the people and the nation as long as they could keep the Republicans from passing any legislation. Of course, you of the far left never did see his threat of filibuster like he did unless there was no chance that privatization would be brought if any kind of improvements in Social Security was proposed. Nothing but obstruction there.

I kind of hope that the Dems manage a big takeover of Congress so they can drive their agenda (far left) through sooner and get the people to understand how they have been taken by the Dems.

  12. The Reverend Says:

Perhaps roy…..you could point to Reid led filibusters from 02-06. The fact is that the 06-08 GOP'ers have set new filibuster records.

You're simply biased here and think you can have your own facts. Democrats actually believe in governance. Republicans, think: Reagan, don't believe in governance. The GOP believes government is the problem….unless Reagan was wrong.

In Bush we have seen how that "government is the problem" ideology has worked. It doesn't. It's actually only an excuse for cronyism, anarchy, and destruction.

Once again…..I realize the conservative hope is for Democrats to "self-destruct". At best, it's wishful thinking.

The GOP will simply be relegated to southern state only political party, if that….for a long, long time.
