The Bill Of Non-Rights

My friend Roysoldboy sent me an e-mail this morning that I have to share with you. Roy got it from the man behind the Redstate blog, who also goes by the name of Flagstaffan for any of you who have been on any of the Mclatchey forums. I hope he doesn't mind me telling you that. I don't think he will.
I can't vouch for the origin of this e-mail, but I think it reflects some commonly held sentiments of the american public.

: NEW PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION
The following has been attributed to State Representative Mitchell Kaye from GA.
We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters. We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights.
ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone — not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.
ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful. Do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.
ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.
ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.
ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.
ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. (AMEN!) Then, get a JOB !!
ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.
ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from!

ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

This one must have been too near the truth to get any comments from the left and it looks like nobody else was interested. Well I like seeing all those things that are not guaranteed as so many of the left think they are. I do get a kick out of it and until somebody comes up with a Snopes refutation I guess I will just accept all of it. Of course they can't do anything with it since no hero is listed as the one who said any of it. They may not find the originator so they couldn't do anything like it. I am sorry that Reverend Red failed to get involved. I was very sure he would have some of his proggy words to say about it. I guess I will have to break my promise to myself and look at his for today to see what he said himself.

I thought that e-mail was timely, since the S-CHIP expansion is in the news, which would expand the 'rights' of middle class families to have the taxpayers pay for their children's health care (which I didn't see listed in the Bill Of Rights. Guess I better go back and look again at the section titled 'why you should pay for your neighbor's decision to have kids').
It's my theory that the left will never stop finding new 'rights'. As soon as they take enough of our money away to pay for one 'right', they will magically discover new 'rights' to take even more away. In the end, the left will discover so many 'rights' that our actual rights as enumeriated in the Constitution won't exist anymore at all.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union,
establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common
defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to
ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the
United States of America.
Do the four words "promote the general Welfare" mean anything at all to you guys? And where was it again that only those who had resources were to have their "general Welfare"…umm…."promoted"?
The GOP exclusively interprets those four words as applying only to corporate interests. They did so again today when they attacked minor children with their votes.
You guys proud of your conservative respresentatives votes today? I know the Decider is.
Once again…..you DO remember that Blue states contribute more and Red states take more….I mean….you remember that…right?
The GOP blabbers about moral values…..what they mean is they value corporate interests and are intolerant towards all other people and issues.
They call themselves the party of "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps"…..what they mean is they are the party of the jackboots.
The conservative movement in America today is, without doubt, completely void of any humanity or morality. Americans recognize this and will deal with today's jackbooted and morally bankrupt party accordingly come next November.

It was a typo, Reverend. It's supposed to read "the general's welfare." The General meaning George Washington, aka our fair nation's first President.
Bush has been following the spirit of the document all these years and he's getting crucified for it.

Rev, the Constitution says 'promote the General Welfare', not 'promote the General Welfare State'. Y'all always get that wrong. I also have a question as to how the government stealing all my money through taxation is promoting my welfare, because I can add and subtract. I have never met a conservative yet who didn't believe in some kind of safety net for the poor and unfortunate, but when half of a middle class person's wages go toward one form of taxation or another, things have gotten way out of hand. I'd call that an extremely 'liberal' view of the General Welfare.
But all that stuff you said about 'jackbooted thugs' was very humorous.

The folks there are far more informed and entertaining than I am. I just put in my 2 cents worth now and then.

Just how would a member of the SocialistDemocrat party know any of that? After all, wouldn't he need to know just what the concepts of humnity and morality mean, first? The Regressives seem to be quite conversant with the idea of "take from you and give to us," which to my mind is far from moral.
Of course, I'm not a Reverend.

Flaggie ! Good to hear from you. It's been a while. Thanks for setting the record straight about Redstate. I guess I was unwittingly passing on an unfounded rumor there. Thanks for the link as well. I'll come and visit you.
My friend the Reverend (formerly known as Bluester to you) gets easily confused. He hasn't realized that the government stealing from it's citizens for every half-witted scheme the government can dream up is morally wrong (like Hillary's Woodstock museum. Did you hear about that one ? Oy vey). I always thought Thou Shalt Not Steal covered it, but maybe that's too old school for our atheist Rev.
