GOP Cowards Avoid Minorities
Posted September 25th, 2007 by Da King

The Republican presidential frontrunners have declined an invitation to be involved in a PBS debate on minority issues at a black college, to be hosted by Tavis Smiley. Earlier in the year, all but one GOP candidate declined a similar NAACP event. Ditto for a debate on a spanish language television channel. You can read the story here.
It has now become obvious what these men are doing, and I'd like to utter a string of curse words here at the cowardice they are displaying. I submit that if the Republican frontrunners are too afraid to air their views in front of what they perceive will be a hostile crowd (90% of black people vote Democrat, and PBS has a pronouned leftward lean), then THEY ARE NOT FIT TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. The president of the country represents ALL the people of the country, not just the ones it is politically convenient to represent. If they are afraid they will be asked some hard questions, well boo-hoo, then get out of the race. They are SUPPOSED TO BE ASKED HARD QUESTIONS. I had similar disdain for the Democratic candidates earlier this year when the Dems all passed on a debate because it was being hosted by conservative leaning Fox News. It looks to me like we have a bunch of spineless jellyfish wanting to become the leader of the free world and commander in chief. I have only one word in response: NO !
How about all you candidates grow a pair ? Okay, maybe not you Hillary, but the rest of you better man up. You all make me sick.

I think that the day the Dems take a chance and do one of those "debates" on Fox is the day the Republicans should offer to take a chance with the others. The game is the same for both groups and the "debates" surely aren't anything but created for TV question and answer sessions.
Wouldn't it be nice to have one of these TV shows where the people of either party knew they would get the same kind of softball questions as the other group gets? That won't happen, either, since agenda of the organizers is so important.

Creating the perception that you either a) Don't care about the minority vote, or b) are afraid to talk to minorities, isn't going to help the GOP recover one bit. With the media being like it is, the Republicans have to be better than the Democrats, not the same as the Democrats.

What's the GOP recovering from and how did they get there in the first place?
Seems to me they had complete control for several years, what happened?

Chris,
In my opinion, the GOP partly fell victim to their own power and partly fell victim to Bush, who is only semi-conservative (on the tax end, but not the spending end). They abandoned the Republican principles of limited government and fiscal conservatism, sometimes became corrupt, and they followed the spendthrift president straight into the same kind of socialist policies they were supposed to be against. Many of those Republicans deserved to be removed from power for that reason.
The problem with removing them is that now we have Democrats in their place, and they are worse. The Democratic party is being led by the far left, and the very PHILOSOPHY of the Democratic party is to tax and spend endlessly. That will definitely not lead this country in the right direction, and will only deepen the problems in the long term.

Mr. king:
As a recovering conservative, I must tell you that Barry Goldwater is rolling in his grave everytime Bush and conservative are used in the same sentence.
As to the Democrats, for the last twenty years they have been controlled by the Democratic Leadership Council. The DLC figures that if it is to compete with the GOP, it must suck from the same tit. There approach to the left is: Where else are ya going to go?" If you haven't noticed, despite the change in Congress, Bush continues to get everything he wants.
