Cavs at Phoenix Suns – Abridged Version

by George Thomas on December 22, 2009 - 4:19 am

The Cavs became the only team in the NBA since March to beat the Phoenix Suns twice on their homecourt.  The Suns are 19-0 against the rest of the league.

The team that beat the Suns 109 to 91 hardly resembled the one that folded against the Dallas Mavericks the night before.  Outstanding games from LeBron James (29 points) and Mo Williams (24 points) and decent bench play (36 points) helped the Cavs pull this one out.

For most of the game the Suns remained close, but the Cavs broke things open in the fourth quarter, outscoring 27-16.  The reason why?  In the quarter that the Cavs needed to put Phoenix in lockdown, they did, holding them to just 36 percent shooting and forced six turnovers for 10 points.  Add these ingredients and you get the Cavs going on a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter and holding the Suns scoreless for 5:22 of the fourth quarter.
