Pregame Notes: Delonte West, Shaq and the Warriors

Coach Mike Brown said that Delonte West will be activated for tonight’s game against the Golden State Warriors.
How much playing time he gets remains to be seen.  In West’s three games of being inactive, others have stepped in to fill the void and his time.

‘’That depends on how the game unfolds in terms of his playing time, but he will definitely be in uniform with his teammates,’’ coach Mike Brown said.

Guard Anthony Parker is starting to find consistency on both sides of the court and Jamario Moon has stepped up to claim minutes.

‘’We’ve had some success.  Guys have played well; they’ve earned the minutes they’ve gotten, so it would be hard to take away from somebody and you have to find some minutes for him if possible,’’ Brown added.

West has been inactive for the past three games as he continues to deal with issues related to his bipolar disorder.  Team officials have not said why he’s been inactive, but the troubled guard did miss the team’s charter flight to Florida for their two-games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat.

Warriors invade
Brown said he knows what he will be looking at as the Golden State Warriors come in to play tonight at Quicken Loans Arena – a bit of the unusual.

‘’They’ve got a bunch of a talented players and they try to junk up the game offensively and defensively which makes it hard,‘’ he said. ‘’It’s a tough team with the style of play the use on both ends of the floor.’’

Guard Anthony Parker agreed:   ‘’They’re a bit unorthodox.  They do a lot of things you probably don’t see again during the season, but I think this team is built to face any lineup and it’s no excuse.’’

O’Neal out
Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t at Quicken Loans Arena and will miss tonight’s game with a shoulder strain.  Brown couldn’t say how long he would be out.   Zydrunas Ilgauskas will start in his place.

“Issues related to his bipolar disorder?” George, that’s your opinion and/or the party line, that’s not reporting. He was deactivated because of issues related to his conduct.

Big George on the boxing beat, after a closed-door meeting with the promoters: “Mike Tyson is in prison because of issues related to his bipolar disorder.”

You know what Alan, the words are there:

Team officials have not said why he’s been inactive, but the troubled guard did miss the team’s charter flight to Florida for their two-games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat.

for you to draw your conclusions. I don’t report what I do not have.

Opinion would be: Delonte West was inactive for three games because he missed the team charter to Florida.

Sorry, I don’t have a quote, interview or anything to back that up.

Of course, perhaps I am giving you too much credit. Maybe you couldn’t figure that one out yourself. Just sayin’…

George, nobody is deactivated for three games because of missing a flight. Clearly, there is a helluva lot more going on with this guy, even if you genuinely don’t know what it really is. But we both know that reporting anything negative is strongly frowned upon by the goons in Independence. Particularly from a local beat writer.

I mean, let’s be totally honest here. The Cavaliers’ own media people have been (quite self-servingly) framing their own role as trying to help West out, sensitive to his needs, blah, blah, blah. Well, if they are so genuinely sensitive to the needs of an employee who (supposedly) has a serious mental illness, would they have burned the midnight oil trying to literally move him out on the first available one-way flight to Oakland?

Leave the “bipolar” stuff out of the future reporting, George. It’s irrelevant, it’s PR, it’s a crutch, it’s a crock. Who knows what sort of insubordination and crap he’s been pulling beyond the scenes. I’m guessing it’s some pretty wild stuff. Maybe it even involves West in Orlando with a bisexual polar bear, because that’s the only thing “bi” or “polar” about this guy right about now. Maybe you really know, maybe you really don’t. Doesn’t matter, it wouldn’t be reported, anyway.

Right now they’re just trying to showcase him in the hopes he can put a few weeks of decent play together without going off the rails, and then packaged and shipped out of town like a delivery from UPS.
