Cavs 106, Pacers 97
–So this will surely disappoint some of you and also anger some of you, but I cannot yet say what player the Cavs are considering making a deal for. I have to protect sources. But I can tell you that I have talked to two different people in different organizations that have confirmed the talks are serious. I know you want more, but I just can’t give it to you at this point. I am not trying to build up ratings here, I am reporting what I can report. Just know that Danny Ferry is serious about trying to upgrade the roster. Whether or not it gets done though is up in the air. It’s 50/50 at best.
–Here is what I can tell you, it is a trade that would change the dynamic somewhat of how the Cavs play but not directly affect the way LeBron James plays. Also, if this deal goes through, it would potentially allow the Cavs to make another deal.
–Also, the Cavs are trying to get a first-round pick as part of the deal. Which is a sticking point, the other team doesn’t want to give it up. Perhaps this is because they are thinking of trading their first round pick this year or next year as part of another deal.
–After the game, the Cavs locker room was buzzing about the deadline. There are players who have heard their names in rumors and are convinced they are being traded. Some players even were half-jokingly saying goodbye to one another. Others who have been in rumors weren’t paying attention. But make no mistake, there is a strong belief in the Cavs locker room that they are going to do something. Maybe nothing will happen. A year ago on this night I was writing about how Danny was beating down the doors trying to get Mike Bibby and it didn’t happen. I am just trying to do my job.
–Now, here’s the news on Daniel Gibson. He got rolled up on by Travis Diener in the third quarter tonight. It looked very bad. There was lots of cussing on the Cavs bench as Boobie rolled around on the court in pain. Afterward the Cavs said it wasn’t as bad as it looked. But Boobie wouldn’t tell me if it was a high ankle sprain or a low ankle sprain. Of course, this is a major difference. I am not a doctor, but the nature of the injury made it look like it could be a high ankle sprain. When you get rolled up on, that injury is often a result. But the Cavs are thinking positively, so who am I so say different.
–Oh, yeah, the game. LeBron had another triple-double. He is the first player since Magic Johnson in 1987-88 to have two back-to-back triple-doubles in the same season. There’s a stat for you. He was huge in the fourth, not only scoring but also rebounding, setting up his teammates but also on defense. He was guarding Troy Murphy for awhile.
–The Cavs won this game their way, playing defense down the stretch. They controlled the tempo in the fourth, holding the Pacers to 5-of-16.
–The Cavs have won 8 of their last 10 games on the road.
Pregame
Starting lineups
Cavs: Larry Hughes, Ira Newble, LeBron James, Drew Gooden, Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Pacers: Travis Diener, Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, Jeff Foster
–Jaamal Tinsley (left knee) was a late scratch and Jermaine O’Neal (left knee as well) are both out. The Cavs have a talent advantage here tonight, which just isn’t always the case.
–This is a game of mental toughness. The Pacers want to play fast and turn it into a scoring fest. The Cavs can take advantage in transition but they cannot just stop moving the ball and turn it into a chuckfest. That’s what the Pacers want.
–The Cavs have beaten Indy five straight times and twice here. If they win tonight they will be above .500 on the road, something they haven’t been this late in the season in 15 years. Plus they have lost two straight. This is a game they should and need to win.
Halftime — Cavs 60, Pacers 54
–Folks, I have not watched a second of the first half as I pursue some hot trade rumors with the Cavs. They are being very active and are in talks over a blockbuster that has not been reported yet. It does not involve Mike Miller. More to come later.
Postgame
Stars

Quotes
Mike Brown: “What can I say? He’s the MVP. He’s the MVP this year. I don’t care how many games are left, or whatnot. This guy is terrific. He does everything out on the floor. He doesn’t just score, he doesn’t just get people easy shots, he doesn’t just rebound, he defends. He guarded shooting guards, small forwards and power forwards tonight.”
LeBron: “I’m going to get us in the best position to make plays in the fourth quarter, I attract so much attention that a lot of guys are going to get open looks. I’m going to do my thing no matter who’s in or who’s out.”

i hope the cavs get mike miller and the pt guard, let miller play the 2 and let larry play the pt, or miller play the 3 lebron the pt and larry the 2 either way it gives us three good scores, well with larry im dreaming but his play of late deserve some praise, keep it up and we are a real threat in the playoffs with m&m as well as boobie and sasha i say sasha name with tongue in cheek coming off the bench.
I hope the Cavs don’t trade beloved mascot Moondog before the trading deadline. Low cap number makes him easy to trade….but I can’t imagine he would get much in return.
Probably best just to leave him on the team.

Brian…That’s neither here nor there…Man it better be good
your just gonna leave us hanging without giving us more specifics on a blockbuster trade??? at least give us some names! although i can guess that ira is part of it, as is shannon brown and/or cedric simmons. also probably drew gooden. KEEP US INFORMED!!! i didn’t want mike miller anyways
Lets take bets on who Ferry is going after in this so-called blockbuster. I’ll propose a few possibilities.
1. Andre Miller
2. Mike Redd
3. Vince Carter or Richard Jefferson (please god no!)
4. Zach Randolph (Please god no!)
5. Ron Artest (I’m not that lucky)
BW! that is some WRONG ish right there…
Eddy Curry?
man BW, that is just wrong to leave us hanging like that!
Crap! If Gibson is out for awhile, we are toast.
Anyways, Lebron is in “I don’t care” mode. Has been for the last 2 games. He doesn’t look like he’s into it….just going thru the motions.
I wonder if Gibson’s injury put the kibosh on any trade taking place….
michael redd would be perfect, hed get 25 a night without breaking a sweat off lebron. think of all those wide open jumpers larry hughes misses (who would have to be involved to make the trade work). they do that they gotta make a side deal for a jarret jack, delonte west, or kyle lowry to have a starting point, gibson is not yet that unless bron’s just gonna take over point guard duties entirely. that happens we still have all those expirings this summer to get another stud
Stop teasing us!
Vince Carter? Ben Gordon?
Michael Redd would be phenomenal.
i hope you not just trying to get pub windy!! I hope your not just exaggerating!!
not to get overexcited and speculate or anything
While Moondog is great, I heard that the Bucks were really interested in him. They’re willing to trade Redd for Larry and Moondog. They don’t really like Larry, but they’ll take his contract to build the team around Moondog.
i’m hoping that whoever this blockbuster trade brings, that we can get rid of larry’s contract in the process (unlikely)
Daniel Gibson apparently sprained his ankle tonight:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3255778
that’s no good at all.
sorry for the late-breaking post ahahahha
the blog wasn’t updating for me.
Its got to be Carter!
“Anyways, Lebron is in “I don’t care” mode. Has been for the last 2 games.”
I hope he keeps not caring – 31, 14 and 12 as I type…
yep going to be carter and is gonna suck big time
I just have to ask, JoeHoops, you think LBJ is in “dont care mode?” I suppose those two games you are referring to when he had triple doubles was not enough. He should have had quadruple-doubles if he were really trying. Sometimes us Cavs fans are spoiled by how good this guy is when we question his energy and enthusiasm AFTER he has two triple-doubles. As for who this “block-buster” trade could be, I’m leaning toward Redd. Miller isnt a “blockbuster” trade caliber player, and the 76ers seem content to keep him as they have been playing well as of late, I don’t see the Cavs taking on VC’s contract, Randolph is a possibility but I’m not sure he’s the type of player the Cavs like, and same goes with Artest. Bucks are going to have to trade Redd at some point, they obviously arent going to win with him. Cavs need a solid shooter. I just can’t fathom how we have enough pieces for Redd without a third team.
I think Ben Gordon is a possibility as well.
whats the word?
Somehow if there is a blockbuster trade going down, I don’t think Gibson could be involved. Think about it…If there is a blockbuster, obviously the Cavs are getting the superstar…meaning the team they are trading with is going into full-blown rebuilding mode. A guy like Gibson doesn’t really make sense for a team like that. Why would team X want a pure shooter who can’t create his own shot and is really a “final piece of the puzzle” type guy when they know they are going to have to overpay to keep him after this season. It just doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense.
My guess is that if there is really a blockbuster out there to be had, a team like Milwaukee is offering a superstar along with some horrendous long contracts and in exchange, taking back a bunch of our deals that expire after next year, just to get them out of cap jail a couple years earlier.
The whole thing makes me nervous. Please, Danny Ferry, prove me wrong about you.
From NY i can tell u that it seems the knicks would give up most of thier team for moondog!
I bet Gibson will be out for a while (2-4 weeks)….just another addition to the injury list for the Cavs.
And I love how BW left us on a cliffhanger with a possible “blockbuster trade” that hasn’t been reported yet. Can anybody say Vince Carter?
In order for it to be a “blockbuster,” it has to involve star players…..and Mike Miller, Andre Miller, Zach Randolf, and Ron Artest aren’t start players.
It likely won’t be anybody from our division and it won’t be from one of the top teams in the league.
Therefore, it may be one of the following players: Elton Brand or Vince Carter.
Sources are telling me that Bob Sura is on his way!
Whoa secret trade danglers!?!?!?!? Blockbuster??? I can’t wait to see this one, do Mike Miller or Earl Watson merit ‘blockbuster’ status? I think not, and so eagerly await – anyways if Snow leaves I’ll be happy as a two-peckered billy goat.
Yeah Lebron is not MVP… Good game by Z too
Nice to see Hughes playing well for a stretch.
Haha, it’s funny how people always suggest inter-divisional trades. It’s not gonna happen folks.
i pray for andre miller and even ron artest…
“Anyways, Lebron is in “I don’t care” mode. Has been for the last 2 games. He doesn’t look like he’s into it….just going thru the motions.”
If going through the motions and not caring means getting back to back triple doubles, he needs to not care more often..
yeah I didn’t watch a second of the game because I was pursuing blockbuster trade deals on ESPN.com since my computer got fixed. Wow
Eric Snow and Damona Jones were moving to Dallas for D. George but his agent nixed the deal.
Snow for Artest, Jones for Mo Williams and Redd from Milwaukee and Larry Hughes for 4 first round picks from Miami. And the Matrix?
Well Sac gets a lock-down defender in Snow, the Bucks cut payroll and Miami loses 4 lotto picks
cnnsi just reported cavs in heavy talk with raptors for chris bosh. Hughes, both browns (shannon and devin), eric snow, and ilgauskas going the other way.
c’mon brian!!!!! at least give us a taste!
I doubt it’ll be carter. He signed a big deal in the off-season and his knees are getting worse.
Elmo where did you read that about Bosh? I just went to cnnsi.com and did not see that. There is no way the raptors get rid of bosh for anyone on the Cavs.
we are getting kobe
i’m not seeing anything about bosh on cnnsi. link please.
I say it’s Kobe. FINALLY he gets out of L.A. like he’s wanted to all along.
(Wouldn’t that be the biggest double-cross heel move ever?)
snow for Kobe, LA gets a lock-down defender. Jones for Bosh, Raps get the best shooter in the Universe.
bw’s most refreshed blog page ever?
bye bye Z
I hate you
elmo, you can sniff my butthole.
and brian, that counts as a taste. let us know as soon as you can.
And guess what, it’s probably for nothing (c’mon Ferry make me eat these words!)
I think that we are getting rid of Z.
So let me get this straight, the Cavs are working on a deal that would significantly upgrade the roster AND they also think it warrants receiving a first round pick?
This makes me very nervous. This screams “our GM is crapping down his leg because he doesn’t want to be lambasted at for not being able to make a deal so he is about to take on some ATROCIOUS contracts.”
Now I’m seriously nervous. Someone please disconnect Danny’s phone!
You make me want to trip cripples and punch orphans.
I think the chris bosh comment was a joke…
Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is expendable on our team except LeBron and Varajeo (no trade clause)
Brian notes it will change the dynamics…bust be a point guard…
AND we want a 1st round. That scares me…
I think Ferry will hold tight and do what’s right.
