LeBron: Get me Kidd
Posted January 29th, 2008 by Brian Windhorst
Just got back from Cavs practice this evening at Nike’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Mary Schmitt Boyer from the Cleveland Plain Dealer just mentioned the name “Jason Kidd” and LeBron James made some pretty candid comments on how badly he wants the Cavs to trade for him. Here it is:
“I would love to have a guy like Jason Kidd to be a part of this franchise, I think it makes us that much better of a team. Everyone knows how much I love Jason Kidd just throughout the summertime. It’s not hard to see how much I’d love to have him as part of the team. Honestly, when you see Jason Kidd wants to be traded, you shouldn’t have to go to the front office and tell them to get on it. It’s Jason Kidd.”
Then I was asked if being paired with Kidd could bring a championship to Cleveland. He said:
“Yeah..(pause and a smile)…It’s that easy.”
Too bad it’s not that easy. The point is that the James is making clear he wants some action here. Even if the Cavs don’t pull it off, they owe it to him to make every effort. I am sure Danny Ferry is. I honestly don’t see a deal that makes sense without a complex three-team swap but stranger things have happened. Right now, though, I’d put the chances at about 15 percent.

This is why Danny Ferry gets paid the big bucks as a General Manager. This Kidd trade has been a possibility for a while, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise to anyone. It was only a matter of time until Kidd voiced his displeasure after his sudden migraines. Danny should get on the phone with Rod Thone, or better yet fly to NJ and hammer out a deal until Kidd is signed, sealed and delivered.
From Ferry’s bumbled attempts at improving this team via trade whether it was Mike Bibby or Louis Scola; picking up a waive claim on Beno Udrith; or listening to a Cavs scout to bring Jamario Moon to camp. It’s about time Danny boy earns his pay check and does something.
The perfect deal won’t appear in your lap, but picking up Kidd will get you closer to a ring if not put you over the top. Will it be easy, probably not. However LeBron, the city of Cleveland and its fans don’t want you to just try. We want results, not lame excuses on how you tried to do something. You want to try to do something and fail without consequences, go to college.
January 29th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Ferry couldnt have claimed Udrih off waivers because the Cavaliers didnt have the cap room to absorb his contract. If you claim a player off waivers you take responsibility for his contract.
The Kings offered Udrih a startin spot and playing time. The Cavaliers had a productive Gibson starting at the time and they couldnt promise Udrih a starting spot. And no one would have started Udrih after being cut and not playing in San Antonio for over 2 years basically.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Mike, how many times does it have to be said? Udrih, aside from being a fairly lousy tweener, is represented by Pavlovic’s agent. Accordingly, there was a greater chance that Udrih would have been spent this season playing side-by-side with Dajuan Wagner in the Polish League than stepping foot in Ferry’s office.
By the way, from what planet did this “15 percent” stuff come from? For the past 2 1/2 seasons, whether through free agency or trade, I’ve read in these parts that Ferry purportedly has been chasing everybody but George Mikan, Pete Maravich, Wilt Chamberlain and the Pope. Just how many dozens of goose eggs does Ferry require before people will finally read a realistic prediction of “0 percent?”
Billy the Kid, possibly. Give Ferry a shovel and tell him to start digging. But Jason Kidd? Whatever. And Roger Clemens has a sore tooth in his ass, and that’s why a trainer was injecting it with lidocaine. Works for me.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Hummm Udrith is making a hefty $761,544 this year. That is most likely not a guaranteed contract. Seems like league minimum to me and the Cavs most certainly could have taken that on or offered more. We still had room from the mid level exeption. Remember Andy was still soaking up rays in Brazil.
But you are right, the Kings could have offered Udrih playing time, like we couldn’t have. Because I know how awesome are Point Guard situation is, regardless if Bobbie was starting at the beginning of the year or not. We have a winning team that has/had a need at PG. This situation wouldn’t be at all appealing?
Regardless, Udrith was there and could have been had for cheap. Ferry failed to get him. I could be arm chair quarterbacking, but I’m not a GM and he is. There were rumors floated about last year that Ferry wanted Udrith, so interest had to there at a time.
Check this one out on Jamario Moon. A Cavs scout turned the Raptors onto him since the Cavs had no interest.
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Basketball/NBA/Toronto/2007/11/13/4652358-sun.html
Are you saying that we couldnt have at least invited him to camp? Hind sight sure, but this was a scout of the Cavs trying to get the organization to look at the guy.
The Udrith and Moon moves could have been attempted for little money to improve the team, but weren’t. That gives me no confidence in a Kidd deal being done, or any deal for that matter. It is just a bunch of lip service. After a while Ferry’s lack of closing deals is a problem. Yeah he’s working hard, but I don’t want the line from the Cavs to “maybe”, “could have been”, or “we tried”. Thats not good enough, LeBron deserves better and Cleveland deserves better.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Udrith could have been had. We had money from the mid level exemption because Andy was in Brazil. Udrith makes 700K, pretty sure thats league minimum.
You’re right Sacaramento offered playing time, but we couldn’t have? We all know how great the PGs are we have. Seriously though an offer to play on a winning team that needs PG help wouldn’t have been at all appealing to someone like Udrith?
January 30th, 2008 at 12:59 am
how many teams do you think had a scout or two say to pick up Jamario Moon? I would guess every single team. Where would he even play for Cleveland? He is a 3, just like lebron. he would not get significant minutes. he is a good player, especially on defense, but not the right fit. also if someone came to you and said they knew about this great 28 year old rookie, you would probably laugh in his face
and i cant see this deal happening. no gm in the league would be able to take this roster and find a way to get jason kidd, short of NJ’s GM having a Mchale moment. and can we afford to trade drew gooden with varejao out for at least a month? and do we want to sacrifice our future for just one player? look at where miami is now after they sacrificed their future for a title. i wouldn’t complain about the title, but there are no guarantees about getting one and you are killing the future of this team. i think kidd is a good player, but he cant shoot that great anymore and i dont think it would be a good idea. maybe i’m crazy i dunno. we are a year away from having a bunch in expiring contracts, so maybe we wait until the offseason to make the big splash. the team is winning right now anyways. i dunno. too much risk and we would kill the future
January 30th, 2008 at 1:01 am
udrih isnt even that great anyways, and he never showed anything in san antonio. i agree with alan t., we could have had him, and he wouldn’t make this team that much better anyways
January 30th, 2008 at 1:07 am
to be more exact we will have about 24.6 million in expiring contracts next year, with gooden, damon, donyell, simmons and eric snow set to come of the books. i actually forgot to throw varejao into that mix, so add taht to itso its closer to 30 million
January 30th, 2008 at 2:12 am
Cuban says Dallas is not trading for Kidd, according to Truehoop….looks like us, the Lakers and Denver are the top contenders….not exactly sure what denver could offer…..nene, jr smith and a filler maybe? chris broussards blog about the lakers possible offer would make the most sense to me….odom, vujacic and crittenton for kidd (or switch crittenton for farmar), that would seem to help out the nets the most…..i believe the cavs are third in the running unless they find a third team and ferry works some magic, which isnt quite likely….thoughts
January 30th, 2008 at 2:17 am
Cleveland is crazy if they think they have any chance at all of getting Kidd. The odds are greater that Lebron and Kidd play together in Brooklyn in 2010. Unfortunately, the Cavs have zip to offer NJ, except Lebron himself. They aren’t going to take on any of the Cavs’ terrible contracts.
If Lebron wanted to play with Kidd, he would have demanded a trade to NJ, because he must know the Cavs don’t have the pieces to bring in a player with a contract that huge.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:23 am
A deal for Kidd can be done, but it’s hard to see the Cavs having enough ammo to pull it off with the Nets if only the Cavs and NJ are involved.
The Cavs could send Gooden, Snow, Marshall, and the expiring deals of Newble and Shannon Brown to NJ for Kidd and Jason Collins.
I don’t see NJ’s side of a deal like this except they would add $4.5 worth of expiring deals, and set themselves up with the expiring deals of Snow, Marshall, and Gooden to use this offseason or nest year.
If NJ was looking to totally blow things up you can easily do a 3 team mega deal with the Nets, Cavs, and Knicks that involves Vince Carter, Larry Hughes, Kidd, Eddy Curry and others.
Or wait….how about a 3 way with the Kings, Cavs, and Nets?
Cavs get Kidd and Kenny Thomas and his horrible contract, Nets get Bibby, Marshall, Shannon Brown, and the Kings get Gooden, Snow and Newble’s expiring deal.
Wow….that one actually kind of makes sense…..
I just accomplished MORE than Danny Ferry and it took me about 2 minutes.
Seriously, that 3 way with the Nets and Kings works for everyone. Kidd gets out of NJ, but NJ replaces him with Bibby to pair with VC and Jefferson. They don’t gain any longer contracts. Sacramento gets out from Thomas’ contract and picks up Newble’s expiring deal. They add a young frontcourt player - Gooden - as well.
The Cavs add Thomas’ awful contract but you have to give up something to add Jason Kidd.
The Thomas contract is awful, but if you think about it, it sets the Cavs up 2 years down the road. They will have the expiring deals of Thomas and Hughes to use as leverage in the trade market. If nothing is there they then let those $20 million in deals expire and hit the Free Agent market in a big way.
Hmmm…..Z would be winding down his deal that year as well too….make that $30 million in expiring deals…..hmmmmm.
Brian, run this thing by Ferry….I’m sure he’ll never do it, but if he does I want full credit…..LOL.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:24 am
i keep reading about all of this cap space…i understand that we will have some flexibility, but is it really to that extent??
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/cleveland.htm
not sure that those contracts are correct that you mentioned…i might be wrong with options, etc….but gooden, damon, donyell, simmons and snow all are still under contract (according to hoopshype). only newble will be off the books and we will have to ante up on gibson. feel free to correct me, i’d love to be wrong…and would like to know an accurate amount of cap space we will have next year.
also, i agree that ferry needs to start showing something. i thought this off-season he pulled up lame and played like norv turner coached against the pats. however, with the AV and Sasha injuries…and with the 20mill that kidd makes…seems like it’d be impossible to make it happen.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:46 am
gooden, damon, donyell, simmons and snow are on for one more year thats what i was saying. we are actually saying the same thing. this coming offseason we will be dormant in the free agent market again but i think we will be major players for a trade because of all those expiring deals. might even trade andy if we dont think we will resign him. that is looking too far into the future though. im torn as to whether or not the short term gain is worth the long term loss in acquiring kidd but i dont think it matters cause we cant get him. 3 team trades are extremely difficult to pull off and take a lot of time, plus we would need to get another pf on the deal just so we dont have simmons and jones playing 20 minutes a game until varejao gets back
January 30th, 2008 at 3:03 am
as a nets fan, i look at the cavs roster and they don’t have much to offer. nets will never bite on a package centering around larry hughes. if the cavs want to get it done they better try real hard to get a 3rd team involved.

Udrith and Moon happen are 2 moves the Cavs could have attempted for little money but weren’t. Saying Udrith isn’t that good, okay. Well he is better than any PG we have and he is so bad that Saco is willing to deal the great Mike Bibby.
Second Moon was given a chance by 1 NBA team, the Raptors. Go read the Toronto Sun times on him. Cavs scout turned a personnel guy in the Raptors organization onto him because Ferry wouldn’t sign him.
Moon playing the 3 shouldn’t matter. If you are a good NBA talent, then I would hope the Cavs would want them regardless if we have LeBron. Moon is athletic enough he could slide to the 2 if need be anyway. But the issue remains that Ferry is not a closer and is not doing much to improve the team. If a scout of the team, not a fan is saying sign someone and he doesn’t listen, then I think thats a huge issue.
However Alan T couldn’t say it much better. Ferry can turn over whatever rock, talk to whoever. He will come up with a goose egg. That is just sad.

are we still bemoaning friggin beno and jamario??? who cares? it’s over. ferry’s track record as a GM is self evident. kidd2lebron you make it sound as if ferry can actually pull this deal off if he really wants to. guess what - he can’t and won’t. we don’t have the assets, and there are several other teams who do. obviously lebron would love to see the trade happen, so i don’t see how this is newsworthy. all you people with big trade boners need to take a cold shower immediately.
we’re going to probably pick up bibby in the offseason in exchange for a bunch of expiring contracts and who knows what else. the exact pieces may be determined by who steps up during the playoffs and establishes some value.
January 30th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Based on Lebron’s comments, I’m not sure the Cavs organization has much of a choice in the matter. The three-way with Sacramento makes perfect sense, and the Cavs could sweeten the deal with a draft pick or 2 if either team is dissatisfied. I just want to win a title, and as the team is constituted now, I think everyone would agree that it isnt possible. Every title contender got better, and middling teams like Orlando improved as well.
On top of that, Gooden’s disappearing act for multiple games in a row can go elsewhere. I think he’s one more dropped pass or blown layup from Lebron taking his life anyway. The goofy beards and the pre-game antics wont be missed.
Make a deal Danny! Your job and this franchise’s future depends on it!
January 30th, 2008 at 10:56 am
I’m not saying the Kidd is possible, this deal is quite impossible. The reason I bring up Beno and Moon is that these were small deals for no money that could have made an impact on the club. These deals would have been for less than Simmons or Devin Brown! Heck probably could have had all 4 deals this summer. However our cap situation as constructed by Ferry has made it such that pulling a huge trade is nearly impossible now.
If Ferry couldn’t capitalize on a Udrith or Moon type of deal, then what is the possibility of pulling something off like Kidd? Goose egg.
What’s sad is that we have a super duper star with not much else. We have heard for nearly a year now on how the Cavs are going to make a major move. Well keep working hard, but if it gets nothing then you have accomplished about the same. That’s ZERO. That’s unacceptable.
Clock is ticking and LeBron can make any team a contender. So I hope Ferry remembers that when working hard, because in 2 more years after this one we may loose the best talent since Jim Brown in this town.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Thoughts on a potential Kidd deal:
- A 3-way deal with Sacramento? You mean the one that has the Cavs adding $27 Million in salary while giving up about $15 Million? It’s called a salary cap, people.
- Jason Kidd is one of the most overpaid players in the NBA. He is making $20 Million to average 11.3 points a game, while shooting 37% from the field. Now he’s whining because his team is losing. Well J, your 3.7 turnovers a game certainly aren’t helping. This isn’t a KG situation, where the talent level surrounding the star is pathetic. Kidd is playing with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson, and his team still sucks. He’s a least partially responsible for the team’s lack of success. The team that takes him will be doing the Nets a favor.
- The Nets stink because they have absolutely no useful frontcourt players. With Varejao hurt, the Cavs will be in the exact same position if they trade Gooden in a Kidd deal. Why would Danny Ferry want to turn the Cavs (excellent frontcourt, weak point guard play, winning record, reigning Eastern Conference Champ), into the New Jersey Nets (weak frontcourt, strong perimeter players, good but overpaid point guard, losing record, bounced in the first round)?
- You know what this reminds me of? When Chris Webber was traded from the Kings to the 76ers. Everyone thought that the addition of Webber was going to make the Sixers a contender. Then they were bounced in the first round by the Pistons. The following year, the 2005-06 season, they finished below .500. Then last year things got so bad that the team traded Allen Iverson and bought out Webber. The facts are the same: aging, overpaid star, who’s reputation far exceeds his talent, goes to another team with an established superstar. Who’s to say that the outcome would be any different?
- The last player that was traded mid-season that made a significant post-season impact was Rasheed Wallace. That trade cost the Pistons Lindsey Hunter, Chucky Atkins, former-Cav Bob Sura, and Zeljko Rebraca, along with a couple draft picks. In other words, the Pistons traded small for big, and added a player who could score, rebound and defend. And they didn’t give up a starter to do it. And they created cap room (Rasheed’s contract was expiring). A trade for Kidd does none of these things for the Cavaliers.
- What would I offer to the Nets for Kidd? Larry Hughes ($12 Million), Ira Newble ($3.5 Million - expiring contract), Donyell Marshall ($5.5 Million), and either Daniel Gibson or a Draft Pick. Otherwise they can keep paying Jason Kidd $20 Million to whine and complain while the team stinks.
- Could we get a clarification on LeBron saying “It’s that easy”? Was the laugh meant to imply that of course it’s not that easy?
Go Cavs. And thank you ESPN, for getting the game tonight to start at 9.
Mike C.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:51 am
If Lebron really wants Jason Kidd or anyone else he should be willing to restructure his contract and free up some cap room. He knows the CAVS can’t do much because of the current high contracts. So he needs to spot talking about what the CAVS need to do and figure out what more he can do. Other big name players have taken less money now in order to help their team. Lebron, show us how badly you Jason Kidd by reducing your paycheck.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Could we get a clarification on LeBron saying “It’s that easy”? Was the laugh meant to imply that of course it’s not that easy?
I believe that was meant in reference to winning a championship. You get Jason Kidd and the Cavs could win a championship. Its that easy.

Obviously draft picks will need to be involved. Hughes for Randolph should happen even without a Kidd trade. Isiah loves terrible guards, and we have the absolute worst guard in the league just sitting there, waiting to be overpaid for.

January 30th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Has there been any talk or news reports of the Cavs attempting to negotiate with Daniel Gibson beyond this year? His contract is up at the end of the year and even though he’s not the greatest, he is one of our best shooters. I shudder to think what the Cavs would bring in to replace him should he leave after the year.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Randolph are you kidding? he is the laziest player in the nba. he will always be the player that puts up good numbers on bad teams because he takes so many shots and doesn’t play defense. he doesn’t even fit a need. at least larry hughes tries
and i agree with mike c, i kinda in a not as good of way said the same thing. it might not be as good of a deal as we all think. if we want this team to win a title we have to think long term, and that means keeping what young talent we have (gibson), keeping our draft picks, and trading our expiring contracts when the right opportunity presents itself, not just trade when all of the fans go crazy.
and i still think that if ferry had brought in moon everyone would have laughed at the idea of a 28 year old rookie. its absurd to think about, but he has turned out to be decent. but you probably would have scoffed at a 28 year old rookie too, like the rest of the league. and simmons didn’t cost us much at all. we traded david wesley for him. who is now retired. an actual half decent deal by ferry
although i don’t mean to defend ferry. the reason we don’t have the assets to do this trade is because of all the bad contracts we have from this team that ferry is responsible for. so i won’t blame him for not being able to trade for kidd or anyone else for that matter, i will blame him for all the shitty players we have that have long term deals
January 30th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Great post Mike C. I like Ferry’s prudence. Looking at what Isaiah Thomas has done to New York’s roster with all his ‘moves’ in the last few years is just comical (Curry, Marbury, Randolph, Jefferies). Plus, with multiple teams interested, I highly doubt NJ is going to trade Kidd to another team in the east.
I’d say lets keep what young talent and draft picks we currently have and see what’s available next year when we have the $30 million in expiring contracts.
January 30th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Ferry’s “prudence”? Are you kidding? The reason he hasn’t made many moves is that he maxed out our salary cap with the ridiculous contracts handed out in 2005. Saying he has simply been “prudent” over the past three years is like praising the French army for being “prudent” for not mounting a attack against the Wehrmacht while they dined on crepes in Paris and availed themselves of the mademoiselles.
January 30th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
1. If they can make it work, the Cavs won’t pass on a trade for Jason Kidd just because Varejao is out for a month… that’s short-sighted. Kidd puts up 10 ppg and 8 boards, so statistically, he matches Gooden’s output. Sure we’ll have to put up with Donyell starting for a month, but we’re not going to miss the playoffs becaue of it (eight seed in the East will probably win less than 40 games).
2. To Mike: Judging Kidd solely by his ppg and turnovers is really ignorant. He averages 10 assists per game and a 3 to 1 assist to turnover rating is pretty damn good. Those 10 assists also produce at least 20 ppg. He shoots .350 from 3-point range, which is respectable for a guy who just plain doesn’t shoot much. He’s a big guard who plays great defense and can control a game on both sides of the floor.
3. There areonly three point guards in the league right now that I wouldn’t trade straight up for Kidd: Nash, CP3 and Deron Williams. The guy is the fourth best point guard in the league and easily has three or four years left in the tank.
4. I wonder if we could pull off a three-way trade with Portland. Portland needs to get some expiring contracts because they have a 15 man roster this year without Oden or any of their picks stashed overseas. They have three point guards in Steve Blake, Jarret Jack and Sergio Rodriguez. I don’t think they want to move Sergio, but you gotta think the other two are fair game.
5. None of this will ever happen. Wait until all the trade rumors in the offseason involving Eric Snow’s Expiring Contract, Damon Jones’ Expiring Contract, Donyell Marshall’s expiring contract and Drew Gooden’s expiring contract.
6. Unrelated notes… watch for Drew Gooden to heat up again… the reduced minutes really hurt his game (confidence issue?). Can’t wait to see ‘Yell back on the court bricking 3 pointers.

How about Lebron to NJ for Vince and RJ. So both Kidd nad Bron will be happy then
January 30th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Make a move! Do something! We have a bunch of players that Cavs management is trying to tell us are good! When we KNOW they are awful! Get rid of Z, Sasha, Gibson, Gooden & Hughes! We would be 43-0 if we had Udrih, Moon, Juwan Howard, and Eddie Jones! Get rid of all of them! The Cavs are so lucky to be the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference right now!! It’s all a mirage! This is the time to panic, right now!!! Brown can’t coach! LeBron will leave tomorrow if we don’t make a move!
January 30th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Doc’s response was great. The French army is prudent! My Diet Coke shot through my nose a little. Very funny.
January 30th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Does Danny Ferry know that Delonte West has his bags packed and is basically done with playing in Seattle? We could swing a trade for him with Shannon Brown and table scraps.
January 30th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
The only way the Cavs should trade for Kidd is if Hughes goes plus they get some kind of big man to replace Gooden (if he’s included in the trade).
If LeBron, Kidd and Hughes started together, teams would just pack it in and dare them to shoot from the outside. That wouldn’t work well for Big Z or LeBron. It seems very disfunctional.
It’s probably all just smoke anyway–Ferry ‘working the phones’ again. I’ll believe it when Kidd’s mom gets a restraining order against old Boatshoes.
January 30th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Apparently, there are more than one Mike that comment here. I am not a regular.
Udrih’s salary when he was traded to Minnesota from 1.7M. Minnesota waived him. In order for the Cavaliers to put in a waiver claim on Udrih they would have to have 1.7M in cap room to take on the salary. The Cavaliers didn’t.
Udrih cleared waivers and while Minnesota was obligated to pay him his 1.7M he was free to sign with any team. Sacramento signed him to a minimum salary contract for one year.
That is what happened.
January 30th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
This is not a smart move. Kidd is preposterously overpaid and is 34 years old. He is one of the reasons the Nets suck this year. And why on earth do we need another guard who isn’t even close to shooting 40% from the field? Other posters are correct that trading Gooden now with Varajeo hurt is not smart. Give me Andre Miller any day. He helps fill this team’s needs and could probably be had for expiring contracts. Hell, even Jamal Tinsley would help.
January 30th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Delonte West is trash…
The pressure is on Ferry. He knows that if he were to trade for Kidd that would pretty much seal LeBron’s next extension, but Ferry clearly doesn’t have the trade assets because of the money makes.
We’ll probably hear that Ferry put in a lot of time trying to get it done but that in the end he couldn’t get a third team involved.
January 30th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Hey LeBron you’re not the GM. Kidd is making 20 million anyways so how the hell could we afford him? Who would the Nets take? Hughes? Z? Gooden? Then who would we have left besides bench players. Sorry Cav fans this isn’t happening. Danny Ferry “working on trades” means Ferry can’t get anyone. On a stupid note some clown on ESPN today said LeBron is going to ruin the chemistry on this team by trying to get Kidd. Yeah LeBron James who carried the team for 5 years now will ruin the chemistry even though he makes everyone better.
January 30th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Let’s get Andre Miller.
January 30th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
how about calling orlando? i don’t know anything ’bouth their contracts, but nelson isn’t playing the minutes he should, and redick isn’t happy either. they’re both young, and i guess larry hughes should make a good fit in orlando as well. but in this case we’re probably giving way to little, if this makes any sense, complete my thinking here
January 31st, 2008 at 11:42 am
How about Sam Cassell? Supposedly the Clippers want to deal him. Don’t we have some expiring contracts to give?
Also, we would prevent the Celtics getting him.

Here’s what Peter Vecsey of the NY Post has to say about Kidd. I still say stay away.
I believe bad offers are the best the Nets are going to get. I believe they’re better off without their ingrate point guard. He’s a lousy leader. He’s an offensive liability. He has contaminated the team. He’s making costly mistakes at the end of games. And he’s owed $21.3M next season.
“People are blinded by his triple doubles,” said a respected member of the Nets franchise. “They fail to see he has become a high-priced role player.”
In other words, the Nets should take what they can get while they can get it, as long as they don’t have to take back compost contracts. Then they should fumigate their arena.
