Mike C. - you're absolutely right. At this point, it's just about scrapping to get W's. Obviously this team is raw right now. Pavlovic and Hughes have hurt more than helped, Varajeo's not here, Marshall's not here, Snow's not here, Damon Jones is logging big minutes, Gibson hasn't learned to stay out of foul trouble - and yet, they've quietly put together 4 wins in 7 games. Austin Carr said it best in his blog - they're thinking a lot on defense - not reacting. And once they start reacting, they'll will be back in really good form.

What's nice about this so far is we really haven't needed any 50 point performances from LeBron like I thought we would. He's never really going to go off when Z is on the court anyway. When Marshall comes back and they play small LeBron might torch some teams, but for now, they're working through Z.

I'm wondering if Z put in some serious extra time this summer or if he has been hiding an injury or something. He's showing me moves this year that I haven't seen him do in the last 3 year. When he pump faked from 20, put the ball on the deck with his LEFT HAND, made a sweeping hook that just missed with his LEFT HAND, and then tipped it IN with his left hand - all with about 4 clippers surrounding him - I fell OUT OF MY SEAT! He's bringing that up and under move. I'm just in awe right now at how well he is playing on offense. I certainly hope he can keep it up. I'm just glad he doesn't do that falling away 1 handed hook that he started resorting to last year.

I wonder if he's stronger now or something. Last year whenever he tried to back people down - he would get pushed out of the paint. That doesn't seem to be happening this year.

Anyway, Cavs need to just keep scrapping together for wins. By the end of the season, if everyone is healthy, the defense will be better than last year (if Varajeo is back) now that we have Devin Brown, and our offense is already better than it was at any time last year. This is definitely a team built for long playoff series. I just hope they don't play down to their competition like they did last year.

Outstanding road trip by the Cavs thus far, and right now LeBron is definitely playing with a purpose. With a little luck, the Cavs could conceivably be 4-1 on this West Coast swing. Awesome.

i don't care how many times they beat the likes of a warrior ,clipper , and a king , throughout this long season , their shortcomings will be exposed . you will see lack of play making from the point position , lack of shooting from the shooting guard position , and lack of offense/offense creativity from the coaching .these are things that can not be hidden in an 82 game season , especially once you start playing against the elites(mavs, spurs, suns, jazz, rockets).i hope these victories against inferior opponents does not make management rest(like they did this summer) and create this false illusion that their roster is good as is.

Thoughts on last night's Cavs win in LA:

- LeBron James has been the best player in the league during this trip. He is a force offensively, he's passing well out of the double team, and he's defending the opponent's biggest threat down the stretch. We're beginning to see an air of inevitability at the end of close games.

- Ilgauskas was very effective again, making the Clippers pay when they double-teamed LeBron off of the pick and roll. I'm not sure how long he can keep it up (38 minutes again last night), but his production has been a difference-maker so far, making up the offense that Varejao and Marshall would (or wouldn't) provide.

- At the same time, the offense seems to be more effective with Z as the second scoring option. When Hughes, Pavlovic or Gibson have been thrust into that role, the results have been hit-and-miss (quite literally). Z taking on the secondary scoring role allows the wing players to pick their spots, which should make them more efficient.

- There's still one more game, but any Cavs fan has to be happy with this West Coast trip so far. Not only have the Cavs won 3 games, but the 2 games they lost both required playoff teams (Phoenix, Utah) to get near-heroic efforts from their stars (Nash, Deron Williams) to beat the Cavaliers at home. Yes, the Cavs could waste this progress by coming out flat tonight against Denver, then again on Wednesday against Orlando, but right now things are looking very good for the wine and gold.

- Still, the Cavs wins have come against the Knicks, the Warriors, the Kings and the Clippers. Not really a championship contender in that list. At least they haven't had a letdown game yet. That's progress for this team.

Go Cavs.
