I am 45 and grew up reading Hal everyday as a kid. He was a big part of my youth and I will always remember him. My partner and I always choose "The guys in the know" for our alias in the NCAA pool each year. No because we know anything but just because we have always liked Hal. It is nice of you to share these stories - thanks.

Brian, great to see you write something about Hal, especially as he was with a different paper. But he was beyond the newspapers. If you grew up in Cleveland a while back, or in Lake County recently it is impossible that you did not know Hal, did not read Hal. Even when you figured he was getting old, you couldn't stop reading him. Hard to imagine there being another like him. Wish there was a way to retire the number(?) of Hall-of-Fame writers too. It would be a shame if any forgot this legend.
