March 4, 2010

Defensive tackle Corey Williams got his wish to return to a 4-3 defense Friday.
The Browns announced the trade of Williams to the Detroit Lions. The Browns received a fifth-round pick (a selection received from Denver) for Williams, while the Lions also received a seventh-round selection from the Browns.
The deal gives the Browns 11 picks [...]

Nuggets from Edwards' big day

October 7, 2009

Just-traded Browns receiver Braylon Edwards should love the reception he got from the Jets — at least from their web site. Streaming across the top of the web page for most of the day was his picture with the headline, "Braylon Edwards. Get your No. 17 jersey. New York's newest Jet."
Jets coach Rex Ryan didn't [...]

October 5, 2009

Starting cornerback Brandon McDonald was benched in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to Cincinnati, but it lasted only one series. Safety Mike Adams started in his place, then took over at nickel back for Hank Poteat. Receiver Mike Furrey was later inserted at safety in the dime defense.
The same thing happened to McDonald last year at [...]

December 21, 2008

Sometimes, life gets in the way of fun. Life today is a Christmas party at 2 p.m. So, try to enjoy the game. I know, it will be tough. Columnist Patrick McManamon has had in-game thoughts the last two weeks. Perhaps he'll do that again today. I'm not certain. If he doesn't, you can always [...]

Welcome to this week's Browns chat. It's scheduled to launch at 8:15 p.m. Although Cleveland is 2-0 on Monday Night Football this year, this one doesn't look pretty. The Eagles almost have to win every game to make the playoffs. The Browns … well it really doesn't matter what the Browns do.
So shouldn't young guys [...]

Pass the rock to Chud and Romeo

December 1, 2008

On the prospects of Joshua Cribbs seeing time at quarterback, here is what Derek Anderson had to say:
"We're not putting Josh in. You guys [must be] on crack, smoking crack. [Just] because we're playing bad doesn't mean we're going to put a receiver at quarterback."
Well, that was certainly an odd thing to say. First, Cribbs [...]

Crennel needs miracle to keep job

November 30, 2008

In other news, it's cold outside. I mostly just wanted to forget about today's game. So, here is this story.
Among the notes in it, the Browns could be looking at a Schottenheimer. But could it be young Brian Schottenheimer, the Jets' offensive coordinator? Boy, I hope not. Here is who the article lists as a [...]

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, quarterback Brady Quinn will miss the rest of the season due to a broken right index finger he suffered Nov. 17 at Buffalo.

Ravens at Browns live blog

November 2, 2008

Hello Browns fan. Today's live blog will begin at 12:45 p.m.
In the meantime, check out Marla Rideour's five things to watch in today's game.
My prediction: Browns 17, Ravens 13. Strong game for Jamal Lewis, not so good for Derek Anderson.

Is a 7-2 finish possible?

October 28, 2008

Given the nature of the AFC, where only the Bengals, Chiefs and Raiders are really the only teams out of it, it will probably take a 10-6 record to make it as a wild card team this year. And that would be luck.
Here's a look at the final nine games of the season for the [...]

Maybe Phil Savage should just stop talking

October 27, 2008

What exactly is it with Browns general manager Phil Savage?
From AP:
After Sunday's 23-17 win in Jacksonville, Savage downplayed the importance of the text messages and said he and Winslow's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had been working toward a settlement since Thursday.
Savage also suggested Winslow had been hospitalized for something other than staph and the club was [...]

What a mess

October 22, 2008

For about the last 24 hours or so, when word of Kellen Winslow's suspension leaked out, I've been trying to think about what to write.
Is it Winslow's fault? Is it Romeo Crennel's fault? Is it Phil Savage's fault?
At first, I blamed it on Savage, considering he couldn't spare a few minutes to give one of [...]

Since the Browns lost to Dallas and Pittsburgh to begin the season, man fans have angrily been calling for the firing of head coach Romeo Crennel and the benching of starting quarterback Derek Anderson.
