Second Half Meltdown: Vikings 34, Cleveland 20

September 13, 2009

CLEVELAND – Choose almost any game from last season and the script would be familiar.  The Minnesota Vikings came into Cleveland Browns Stadium today and dominated the home team.
Although it didn't start that way with the scored being 13-10 in favor of the Browns at halftime, that was short lived as someone woke the slumbering [...]

Browns 13, Vikings 10 at the Half

September 13, 2009

CLEVELAND – A mild surprise unfolded during the first half of the Browns-Vikings game at Cleveland Browns Stadium - the Browns led 13-10.
Neither team looks particularly sharp offensively, but defensively both have something going on.  The bigger surprise is how the Browns are, for the most part, keeping Vikings uber back Andrian Peterson in check.  He got loose for [...]

Little Pomp and Circumstance to Start

September 13, 2009

Coach Eric Mangini could have officially began his tenure as the Cleveland Browns head coach with a little more bluster. Fans expecting  that didn't get it as the team passed on introduction instead coming out as a unit.  Message received.
The Vikings greeted the Browns as such, not worrying much about the Browns offense and kicking [...]

All Signs – Including T.O. – Point to Brady Quinn as the Starter

September 9, 2009

BEREA  – Coach Eric Mangini told Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson who his choice for quarterback would be for Sunday's season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
Both quarterbacks, however, still refused say who would start.
They didn't have to because the news eventually came out courtesy of the Buffalo Bills' Terrell Owens.  The controvesial wide receiver sent Quinn a [...]

Cleveland Browns: From the Coach

September 17, 2008

Coach Romeo Crennel had little problem calling what wide receiver Braylon Edwards is enduring currently a slump.  He's more concerned, however, with getting Edwards' problems corrected. Right now the wideout has five receptions for 46 yards.  Gee, think those fantasy football wonks who have him on their rosters are a bit miffed?  You betcha.
It’s always [...]

Cleveland Browns: In the Locker Room

September 17, 2008

Ummm…sure the Northeast Ohio Browns media were in the locker room this afternoon, but it resembled something out of an episode of The X-Files.  Many players were mysteriously missing.  Yes, we know that the problem lies in the fact that they lost this past Sunday, but as one person in the room observed:  "You're here [...]

Cleveland Browns: In the Locker Room

September 10, 2008

'Just Another Game'
Is this what free agency have wrought?  A couple of media members did a double take in the Browns locker room when Shaun Smith downplayed the importance of this Sunday night's Browns-Steelers game that's being televised nationally on NBC (WKYC Channel 3)
"It's just another game.  We're trying to get better and trying to [...]

Cleveland Browns: In the Coach's Office

September 10, 2008

- Browns Coach Romeo Crennel has always struck me like a bear in appearance and demeanor.   With respect to the latter, he only growls when necessary and in private.  But that hibernation-like demeanor kind of leaves me wondering whether he can ultimately hang on to the confidence of his players.
Take today's press conference for instance:
"We [...]

Browns v. Lions – Third quarter

August 23, 2008

Romeo Crennel proved true to his word. While the third preseason game is the one where first teamers see the most action, Crennel said in a recent practice that he wouldn't be telling them when they were coming out of the game – primarily because he thought it mad them in a hurry to get [...]

Browns v. Lions – Second Quarter

August 23, 2008

Quinn's third possession doesn't bode any better.  Again three and out with ineffective blocks courtesy of the right side of the line leads to Quinn getting splattered to the turf on his tookes.
The Browns just succeeded in making Dan Orlvosky look Favre-esque twice on the Lions first possession of the second quarter.  And Kevin Smith [...]

Browns v. Lions – First Quarter

August 23, 2008

First drive:  All of a sudden Jon Kitna looks like a junior Fran Tarkenton (for those of you under 40, look him up).  He completes two third and eights on the drive after scrambling away from pressure.  The good news is the Browns are getting pressure; the bad is that Kitna is evading it.  The [...]

Cleveland Browns: Team Acquires Defensive Back

August 20, 2008

Obviously the Browns brain trust saw what most fans saw in two pre-season games – problems in the defensive backfield.
Today, they went out and did something about it.  They acquired defensive back Travis Daniels, 6-1, 195 lbs, from the Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick.  The Browns waived DB Mil'Von James.
Per a team news [...]

Browns-Giants: A Quick Preview

August 18, 2008

In between shooting video trying to take notes Saturday, one thing was obvious about tonight's match-up against the Giants, the second quarter won't come soon enough.
Why?  Simply because there's little left to to decide when it comes to the season's starters.  Barring any type of injuries, the first team is set.  Yes, Browns fans, you [...]

Filling the holes – Training Camp July 30 – Evening Practice

July 30, 2008

Travis & Travis sounds like a law firm.
It's not, but two players who share that name – Travis Thomas and Travis Wilson – may actually make contributions to the Browns this year.  I mentioned Thomas in my post earlier today.
Wilson has been drawing a lot of attention because the former third round draft pick out [...]
