The rumored traded between the Browns and Philadelphia Eagle has been officially announced.

The Browns will receive cornerback Sheldon Brown and linebacker Chris Gocong. In exchange, the Eagles get linebacker Alex Hall, a fourth-round draft choice (105th overall) and a fifth-round drat choice (137th overall) this year.

"Sheldon Brown has been a very good football player for the Eagles over the last eight years," Eagles head coach Andy Reid said in a statement from the Eagles. "He's a good person, a legitimate tough guy and he'll do a good job helping the Browns. Chris did a good job converting from defensive end to linebacker and helped us win a lot of football games. We wish both of them all of the best."

Last season Brown registered a career-high five interceptions. He has wanted a trade from Philadelphia since last April when the Eagles refused to renegotiate his contract. Brown didn't show up for Philadelphia's mandatory offseason workouts that started on Monday.

Gocong, drafted in the third round in 2006, played defensive end in college. For the Eagles, he started 23 games over the last two seasons at linebacker but lost his starting job in 2009 to rookie Moise Fokou.

In his career, Gocong has four sacks. Clark Judge of CBS Sports wrote today that Gocong might play inside linebacker for the Browns.

League sources tell Clark Judge of CBS Sports, that the Browns are close to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Judge, Philadelphia would send cornerback Sheldon Brown and linebacker Chris Gocong to the Browns for either two draft picks and a backup or for a draft pick and a starting player.

Judge reports that the deal has been held up because Brown wants a new contract. He asked to be traded last April. Brown didn't show up for Philadelphia's mandatory offseason workouts that started on Monday.

The Browns currently have 12 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, including three in the third round and four in the fifth round.

Obviously the Browns brain trust saw what most fans saw in two pre-season games – problems in the defensive backfield.

Today, they went out and did something about it.  They acquired defensive back Travis Daniels, 6-1, 195 lbs, from the Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick.  The Browns waived DB Mil'Von James.

Per a team news release:

Daniels is a three-year veteran who has played in 44 career games with Miami, including 25 starts, and has totaled 125 tackles, 92 solo, three interceptions and 19 passes defensed.

Daniels, who can play both the corner and safety positions, had a career-high 14 starts and 62 tackles during his rookie season with the Dolphins in 2005. Last season with Miami, he appeared in all 16 games, including five starts, and added 27 tackles, one interception and four passes defensed.
