Browns rookie running back Montario Hardesty is reportedly out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Hardesty, a second-round pick, was hurt Thursday night in the Browns' preseason finale. He made his NFL debut Thursday after missing most of training camp with a bone bruise on his right knee.
Before Thursday's game, Browns coach Eric Mangini and Browns President Mike Holmgren discussed whether or not Hardesty, who tore his right ACL in college, should play during the preseason. They decided he should.
"It's a tough decision," Mangini said. "You want to be able to see a guy, you want to make sure that he's prepared to play in the [regular-season] opener and do things that he needs to do. You're also concerned about the volume of work he's been able to have up to that point. As we talked about it, we decided that this was going to be his last opportunity to get that work, so we thought it was the best idea to do that."
Of course, hindsight is 20-20, but what do you think about the choice the Browns made? Again, Mangini said it was a tough decision.

Hardesty is a Rookie…..With a history of bad knees….He had only two basically light practices in shorts…..No training camp….Was he such a Sensation in Collage that we just couldn't live without rushing him into a worthless pre-season game?…
What was really the reason for rushing him in to cover Heckerts Butt?…to show how great Hardesty is?….WELL… he rush 7 times for 25 yards against the other teams Second String….a 3.57 Average per carry….
If he didn't get hurt is he better then Jennings…who is about the same size and runs just as hard…Would he ever be as good as Hillis….Is he as good a Davis?….He sure as heck is not as good as Harrison…..
Hardisty is a guy with one heck of a lot of Guts….He worked his butt off for this chance …Rehabing for 4 straight years in College (not easy) and then for most of his time with us…..
Hardesty put his heart and soul into this effort to make our team and should be respected for that effort that few people would have or could have made….
Now it is time for the Browns to show some class and Pay the guy his guarantee, Make sure he gets the best possible doctors to take care of his knee ….Let him do his rehap with his team mates and when he is healthy again SEND HIM HOME, RATHER THEN TURN HIM INTO A COMPLETE CRIPPLE.
