The Browns placed rookie running back Montario Hardesty, pictured left, on injured reserve Friday, meaning he's out for the season. Hardesty suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Thursday night's preseason finale, team spokesman Neal Gulkis said.
The Browns selected Hardesty in the second round (59th overall) of this year's draft. They traded a third-round pick and two fifth-round selections so they could move up in the draft and take him.
The Browns also waived six players: wide receivers Jake Allen and Syndric Steptoe, offensive linemen Casey Bender and Joel Reinders, defensive back Coye Francies and tight end Joel Gamble.
NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by 6 p.m. Saturday. The Browns got a head start on their cuts.
