Browns add lineman

The Browns were awarded offensive lineman Paul Fanaika off waivers from the Washington Redskins.

To make roster space, the Browns waived offensive lineman Eric Ghiaciuc, a five-year veteran signed during free agency.

A seventh-round pick of Philadelphia in 2009 out of Arizona State, Fanaika (pronounced fun-EYE-kuh) spent 11 weeks on the Eagles practice squad before the Redskins signed him to their active roster on Nov. 23. Fanaika, 6-foot-5 and 327 pounds, was active only for the season finale.

At Arizona State, Fanaika started 35 of 48 games and was named honorable mention all-Pac-10 as a sophomore and senior.
