Coaching has never left Browns president Mike Holmgren, but Holmgren has left coaching … at least for now.
He's seemingly disturbed by rumors that he'll eventually fire Browns coach Eric Mangini and return to the sidelines, but he also admits he's still got an itch for calling plays. It's a contradiction Holmgren has acknowledged, though he vows he's committed to his role in the Browns' front office.
Les Carpenter of Yahoo! Sports examined Holmgren's mindset, revealing Holmgren's future is a mystery for now.

Sure hope so. Mangini can't be ushered out of town fast enough.
No I beleive he is realishing in being the owner.
I sense in Holmgren that he truly wants to remain as team prez only but I also feel it is taking an abundance of self convincing and possibly therapy. I do not at all think he wishes for Mangini to fail as the joy which comes from winning a Super Bowl will be just as, if not more satisfying for him having never expereinced it from that position before, however, I think in his heart, especially now roaming the sidelines during OTA's, he's faced with those coaching emotions, at times possibliy doing all he can to bite his tongue, wishing to bark out instructions to the players. I think it will be even harder once the season unfolds, not down in the trenches, traveling city to city and all the other things which come with being a head coach rather than an "office head" If, and I say if Mangini fails, which I think won't happen, yes Mike Holmgren would return as coach, this being his last stop, feeling complete gradification turning around a fledging franchise, returning back a winning tradition to a proud fan base, and assuming he wins the whole thing would be the ultimate way to going out.
while i would hope bill cowher takes the job, holmgren is more than acceptable. we just need that guy who has already been there to a super bowl, not some college coach or assistant looking to man a team for the first time. if you've been there, you know the way back. never been there; you are always guessing.
