Rookie Chris Jennings continued to carve out a bigger role as the Browns' No. 2 running back, this time at the expense of fourth-year man Jerome Harrison, who was inactive.
Jennings, a University of Arizona product who played in the Canadian Football League, saw his first extended action in Monday night's loss to Baltimore. In Sunday's 38-37 loss at Detroit, he rushed 10 times for 36 yards and caught five passes for 38 yards.
Jennings had a chance for his first NFL touchdown late in the second quarter, but Brady Quinn's pass went through his hands. Quinn released the ball before Jennings curled into his spot near the goal line.
Marla:
Jennings was cut by two Canadian League teams….He is not as quick or as fast as Harrison…He is however a totally different type of back a guy that would be a replacement for Lewis if we can't find someone better….
I think benching Harrison was a terrible mistake…He could have wrecked havoc on that Defense with his speed to the outside…Further he is obviously fed up with the Browns and I doubt he will be here next year….I would be surprised if he hasn't already asked for his release or to be traded…You might want to check on that. …
When Harrison goes…What do we have left…Davis ..The guy who actually whiffs on blocks and they say Harrison can't block…Jennings a Canadian league reject ..Vickers who is not a running back and not even that great a blocker…he is a good lead blocker but not all that great at picking up the blitz….He is not quick enough they have to come right at him…
Even if you think Harrison CAN'T block …He is the best RB on the Team…He has had the best Game this year of any of our RBs ….and that was his only chance in 3.5 years to show what he can do as the primary back and running mostly between the tackles… against CINN…the number 5 Rushing defense in the NFL 29 carries for 121 yards…He has performed ever whenever he has been given an opportunity to play…7.2 avg per carry last year and 6.2 the year before…and while his numbers are down this year they are still the best of any of our RBs…
Jerome Harrison is and has been a Vastly overlooked Talent on this team and I am convinced he will Blossom into a great Back …when he gets out of here….Chicago….Seattle…and Others could use his type of Quick …Fast…RB with exceptional acceleration and a good receiver..
