I think that Eric Mangini is a nice guy. What I don't understand is that why hasn't he looked at the last play of the game? I've seen it myself probably five times now, so was this question asked to him right after the game? Was this interview today, because if it was I would sure wonder why he hasn't seen Poteat's pass interference. I also wonder if he's trying to be very vague when he's answering the question whether pass interference is or is not allowed when the quarterback is running in and out of the pocket on a really long play, like he said. I thought that when the ball was in the air you can't hit a defender no matter where the quarterback is unless the ball is uncatchable. Am I right?
I am with you that is right and/or the defender is looking back at the ball to catch it, some light contact can be made and is acceptable. My thing is this. The coaches if they are going to teach should know the rule book in and out …keeping in mind during the summer we have NFL refs come to camp for a couple days and the Browns do inter squad scrims with the refs. The vagueness means "I think I might be wrong but dont want to admit it"
It really boils down to how this coach coach's.
You write that Mangini said that Poteat is coached to put the receiver out of bounds when the QB is out of the pocket………..Well you need to have some football IQ on this situation, this is a hail mary into the end-zone of about 40-50 yrds the defenders need to keep the receivers in-front and behind them and REACT TO THE BALL. A ball thrown 40-50 yrds in the air any defensive player can react to a ball thrown that far with plenty of time to get to the ball and make a play on it……Lets not forget this is the last play with only 6 sec. left you have the numbers in the endzone 5-6 DB's to 3-4 receivers ALWAYS in this situation the
DB's are to react to the ball with some semblance as to where the receivers are (in this particular instance) Interference is unacceptable. And if Mangini can't see this and a mere fan can what does this say for this Head Coach! That's pathetic.
