Coach Eric Mangini gave no hint on whether he will release receiver Donte' Stallworth after the league announced a one-year suspension for Stallworth Thursday.
Until he is reinstated after the Super Bowl in February, 2010, Stallworth is prohibited from participating in any team activity. He pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter after striking and killing pedestrian Mario Reyes on March 14 in Miami Beach. His blood alcohol level was .126, well above Florida's legal limit of .08.
In a statement released by the league, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Stallworth violated the substance abuse and personal conduct policies.
"In that respect, you are clearly guilty of conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the NFL," Goodell said.
Mangini was vague in remarks regarding Stallworth before practice.
"I respect the commissioner very much and I respect the process and I respect the decision," Mangini said. "My focus and the team's focus is on the task at hand. I'm getting ready for the season."
Asked if he was open to Stallworth returning to the team after the Super Bowl, Mangini said, "In terms of what the future holds, there's really no decision that's been made. No timetable has been set. We're focused on what we have to do here, the players that are here, that's the direction we're headed."
