Mangini dismisses QB sabotage talk

by Dan on August 12, 2009

in Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns, Derek Anderson

This is from the Associated Press:

BEREA: Eric Mangini says his Cleveland Browns quarterbacks are competing, not cheating.

The radio transmitter inside Anderson's helmet wasn't working in a Sunday scrimmage, so he used hand signals to relay plays. Anderson joked after the scrimmage that Quinn told the defense what all the signals meant.

Reporters at the scrimmage saw the two players laughing about it.

But that didn't head off several online reports suggesting Quinn was using underhanded tactics to win the starting job.

Mangini could only shake his head.

"Those guys are competitive and they're friends," Mangini said Wednesday. "The group is friendly and the game was competitive by nature. … All I see them doing is supporting each other."

Anderson's team won, 17-14.

But that hasn't stopped Ch. 19 from airing sensationalistic "guess which guy is sabotaging the quarterback" teasers all night long. Man, I just abhor the local so-called "news" coverage in this town. 19/43 is the worst excuse for "news" in the business. I NEVER, EVER, EVER watch them, and never will. If they're not spewing crap about Quinn, they're exploiting animal torture stories. Count me OUT. I'll be happy if those two stations just lose their broadcast licenses altogether. They add NOTHING to the airwaves.
