ESPN: Stallworth to meet with commissioner

in Cleveland Browns, Donte Stallworth

ESPN.com is reporting that Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Gooddell this afternoon.

ESPN's source did not know specifically what will be discussed at the meeting. Stallworth was suspended indefinitely on June 18. That followed a 24-day jail sentence for Stallworth, who was convicted DUI manslaughter after fatally hitting a man with his car in Miami.

The remainder of Stallworth's sentence includes eight years of probation, drug and alcohol testing, 1,000 hours of community service and a lifetime suspension of his driver's license.

A settlement with the victim's family was also reached, believed to be worth more than $1 million. Prior to last season, the Browns signed Stallworth to a seven-year, $35 million contract. In 11 games in 2008, he had 17 receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown.

Someone . . . . . his lawyer, a relative, a friend or gave Stallworth bad advice . . . . and he followed it. Stallworth should never have pleaded guilty . . . . . . he was not guilty in this incident. I think that he is not too savvy on such matters. I feel sorry for him.
