What they're saying today

by Dan on December 16, 2008

in Cleveland Browns, Romeo Crennel

- Allentown Morning Call (Larry O'Rourke): Ex-Eagle Fraley thankful for his years in Philadelphia

- Akron Beacon Journal (Marla Ridenour)
: Andra Davis content right where he is

- Elyria Chronicle-Telegram (Scott Petrak)
: Past their prime (time): Browns don’t give national TV audience much reason to care

- Philadelphia Inquirer (Phil Sheridan): Eagles lucky Browns play role of patsy

- Philadelphia Inquirer (Bob Ford)
: The old McNabb is back

- Plain Dealer (Mary Kay Cabot)
: McDonald's thefts are Browns' lone highlights

- Plain Dealer (Terry Pluto)
: For forlorn Browns fans, all that's left is a slow, sad march to the finish

- What I'm saying today:
Absolutely pathetic. Forget the score. Forget the poor play. Romeo Crennel, in some fashion, is sabotaging part of the future of the Cleveland Browns. Because he is too stubborn, the Browns are not giving more playing to Martin Rucker, Beau Bell, Ahtyba Rubin or Alex Hall. What exactly are the Browns playing for, if not the future? Pride? That was gone long ago. Regardless of whether or not the Browns had someone who could be interim coach, Crennel should have been fired several weeks ago. Instead, the fans get to watch (and pay for) some of the worst football I've ever seen the last two weeks.

Oh, one other thing. The play of Brandon McDonald last night will look good on the stat sheet and probably be overlooked. He was terrible, outside of that first interception. The second one only came because it was tipped. Other than that, he was routinely beaten last night and missed tackles.

Assessment of McDonald is accurate … he was pathetic. And why did he have noone accompanying him in the first half to make one block downfield which would have permitted him to score after he had gotten past Westbrook? Joe Thomas has been miserable in a sophomore slump season, and Romeo and Savage just cannot be permitted to coexist with the apathy that this team has now … 10 years is enough – plenty of Ohio talent to begin to root for Pittsburgh and I thought after 40 years supporting this team I would NEVER come to say something like that.

Crennel is the best fat lump of black lard we have…so deal with. You see how he waddles his lumpy mash potato ass up and down the sideline and has a look of a buffoon on his face that doesn't know right from left. We have a great coach in this Fat Albert. Heck, I say keep him!

Last was the first time I thought I regretted they brought football to Cleveland. Nothing has come of Football being returned to Cleveland. I have been a fan all my life and I'm losing interest in the game overall now. I do not believe firing Romeo Crenel will end this nighmare. I think he and Phil should be brough back next year. The league should then remove the franchise from Clveland and Cincinnati and combine them, maybe then we will have a semi professional football franchise.

almost word for word what i posted in the beacon sports section today…

crennel should have been given his walking papers last weekend or the week before, and our "offensive coordinator" ought to resign before another axe starts its swing…just pathetic beyond words, and i fought for phil savage to remain, but his indecision in this area, and his refusal to tell crennel to play these certain guys or else hit the road and stop his fantasy wrecking ball game plans, is proof savage needs to leave with crennel at the exact same time…two loooooosers!!! i have no idea whatsoever what savage thinks he's doing…crennel, we know, is holding onto his final paychecks with his fingernails…i guess no one explained he'll get them anyway, courtesy of savage's generosity with someone else's money—another reason to flatout fire him and place the blame for these losing teams right where it belongs, on phil's desk
