Cleveland debuted new brown pants Monday night against the New York Giants, not a spur-of-the-monent decision. But plenty must be tweaked if the Browns are going to wear them in the regular season.
Some players (including backup quarterback Brady Quinn, linebacker David McMillan and cornerback Eric Wright) wore white socks and had them pulled up nearly to their knees, a look too reminiscent of Jim Thome. Others had tall black (or very dark brown) socks, which blended in with the brown for a more svelte look. Some had a tiny line of white sock in between the brown and the black.
Purists and long-time Browns fans may have been appalled.
Apparently the NFL's uniform police don't start working until the regular season. The Browns are also asking for feedback on their web site before they make a final decision.

Brown pants rate just a little bit better than the orange shirts from a few years ago. Not a good look overall. If we must make changes just to mix it up, I say go back to the orange pants from the early 80's! At least those would reflect on a bit on tradition and on some better times with the team. If I recall a poll was put up on the Browns website a few years ago and the brown shirts with orange pants was rated the most popular home color combination. Why not use it?
I did not like the pants at all.It makes the team look cheap. If you want players to play well, they have feel good about how the look in their uiniforms.Call it a psycological edge.
The USA olympic basketball team,as well as the swim teams, put extra effort in there design for there uniforms to make(the athelets)feel good about who they were representing. The Cleveland Browns need to take a page out of the Sandiego Chargers book on style. And they play good too.
The brown pants were a bad idea. Some fans love the White on White, but if the Browns would take a poll they would find that the majoity of fans prefer the Brown jersey with White pants for all Home games. Just leave it leave it that way. The brown pants looked like tights for ballet dancers.
Awful. Hideous. They looked like big oompa loompas. As the announcers on ESPN remarked, the "Browns uniforms are 'classics", dont mess with it." Brink back the white (road) and brown(home) striped socks!
Pretty hard to give a rat's patoot about the color of their pants after that game. I am so incredibly disappointed. But since this was about the pants, okay. Try throwing some orange-on-white stripes down the legs to make them look more like athletic gear and less like Wal-mart fat lady stretchy pants.
LET'S PUT A LOGO ON THE HELMETS AND LET'S GET US SOME CHEERLEADERS TOO.
ULTRA-GAY!!
THE VERY SECOND I SAW THOSE I WAS STUNNED! WHAT ' QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY' PICKED THOSE SPANDEX SUPER FAIRY PANTS?
ALWAYS GO FOR TOUGH IN LOOK…NEVER SISSY!!!!!!!!!!!!
D@mn, aren't y'all tired of those same tire@ss white pants? Cleveland, please do something other than those stale@ss white pants and jerseys. Perhaps put a stripe on the brown pants. Bring back the orange pants AND jerseys. I can't believe so many lames want them to wear those same tired@ss whtie pants week-in and week-out, year-in and year out. Can somebody buy some imagination?
The Browns have the most boring uniforms in all of sports. Not the ugliest, just the most boring. Chang the facemask back to white, good-grief. NOBODY
The browns have the most boring uniforms in all of sports. Not the ugliest, just the most boring. And why did they go back to gray face-masks? This isn't 1982, nobody does cheap gray facemasks anymore. Go back to white to at least give it some character. AND IF I HAVE TO WATCH THOSE SAME WHITE PANTS EVERY FRIGGIN GAME AGAIN THIS SEASON, I'M GONNA CUT MYSELF! Bring back the orange pants.
