Is it Quinn time?
By Marla RidenourSome might suggest that Sunday's home game against Miami would be the perfect time for the debut of Browns' first-round pick Brady Quinn — in a substitute role. The Dolphins are 0-5. The Browns have a bye the following weekend, which would be the perfect time for them to correct the rookie quarterback's errors. Cleveland should be able to run the ball against a defense ranked 31st against the run, which would put less pressure on Quinn to do it all. And the stretch of imposing defenses early in the year is now past.
In 2005, Cleveland let Charlie Frye see action as a rookie and he was a third-round pick. Frye first got in on Nov. 20 and played in seven games, starting the final five.
But with a chance for the Browns to go 3-3 at the bye with a victory over the Dolphins, that makes the odds of seeing Quinn this week slimmer. Why would coach Romeo Crennel risk putting Quinn in and him throwing an interception to jeopardize the game? Once on the hotseat, Crennel now has the Browns poised to contend for the playoffs. As long as that's the case, Quinn may have to learn from the sideline or in mop-up duty (if there ever is any).
Whenever the quarterback question comes up, Crennel still practically rolls his eyes.
"I'm just trying to win this Miami game and we're going to do whatever we can do to win the Miami game," Crennel said Wednesday. "Whoever gives us the best chance to win that game, that's what we're going to do. When Quinn's time comes, it'll come. Like I told him, he is one play away. He almost got in during the game the other day. That's what it is."
Whenver his time comes, Quinn said the experience of nearly being pressed into emergency service near the end of the first half at New England when Derek Anderson suffered a shoulder stinger will help him. Quinn said he didn't know what to do to prepare since center Hank Fraley was still on the field. After he located his helmet, Quinn said he learned that backup lineman Lennie Friedman would be there to give him some snaps.

So what Romeo is saying is, he's willing to put the season and his future in the hands of an inconsistent, turnover prone backup quarterback like D.A., rather than realize the future is here now–and probably ready to exceed any of our expectations. Right? (crickets) Yeah, find me a true football guy who believes that Anderson is better than Quinn, and I'll buy him a Dr. Pepper. Anderson will be fine in a backup role, but c'mon, Romeo, the Dolphins are a pathetic 0-5 team. If you ever hope to "break in Brady gently," wouldn't you think this game is the ideal time? (And don't roll your eyes at me, buddy.)

So quick you are to jump on the Quinn band wagon. As soon as he starts throwing INT's you'll be begging for The Walrus to put Anderson back in with his 11 TD's

Start DA. Put Brady in when we get to garbage time.

Put Brady in when **and if** we get to garbage time… let's be serious. Any one can win in the NFL on any day (unless you are playing against the Pats or Indy). Even the Bills should've pulled it off against a crazy Cowboys win last wknd.
I'm waiting to see if the Browns march on to that field and put together a solid start and nail this thing down tight. If they can accomplish that, it will be a huge step for a Browns team that needs to prove that it can take care of business when it is expected to do so.
Let's see if they can accomplish this with DA… this Browns team isn't good enough to throw in a twist with Quinn, even if they are playing lowly 0-5 Dolphins.

especially with Lewis out, we don't need to see Quinn now.

Why is this even an issue or a question. DA is playing fine and the longer Quinn watches the btter off he will be. DA played very good today aginst Miami and was not bad against New England. Look what they did to Romo and the Cowboys today. Let's not start a QB controversy when one is not needed!

Next to Tom Brady, Derek had the best performance yesterday of any QB in league! As long as he continues to play at that level, Quinn should keep holding the clipboard. The rookie's time will come if and when the Browns are no longer in playoff contention. Until then, let's ride DA as far as he can take us. Go Browns!!!

I can't believe the people calling for Quinn now. Keep DA in there until either Quinn wins the job from DA, or DA gets injured. I like the way this offense is playing; if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

DA has so much more potential than Quinn will ever have! Look at all the scouting reports on Brady! According to the sporting news he was the 5th best quartback in the 2007 draft! He could be a fine starter, and is smart, but physically doesn't has the talent to take a team over the top!!!!! The Browns would be very smart to keep Quinn on the sidelines, then trade him for a number 1 pick in the 2008 draft. They will need it!!! Have you been watching this defense play???

The bottom line is ride DAs up side. He is getting better and throwing TDs… How could Quinn do more? Anderson is third in TDs, 14 already, Next year Quinn will be hungry to play not worried about a contract and showing up DA. Then you trade Anderson for a draft pick.. You bench him now and he will be worthless in value tommorow

Bench Anderson now, and he will be worthless in value tomorrow?
What planet are you from? Bench a QB who is 3rd in TD throws after 6 games to Brady and Manning, and his perceived value = worthless?
NOPE!
His perceived value is through the roof! Stop him now, and don't allow him to play again - which may well lower his stats and his value! Geesh!

I know a lot of you would prefer to see Brady Quinn in the lineup in place of Derek Anderson, but hey just a moment. First Quinn missed a lot of the training camp as a result began as the #3 qb on the roster. The fact that they traded Frye and resigned Ken Dorseywas a great move. Dorsey brings experience and has helped both Quinn and Anderson. Right now, I would use Quinn in nothing more than a mop-up job. Let him get the feel for the game, and his teammates as they get use to him. The Browns are on a roll, let's keep it that way and not upset the applecart. By slowly working him into a game situation it will allow him some playing time just in case Anderson goes down, God Forbid………Go Browns!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe people are talking about Quinn when D.A. has been a huge part in making the Browns in the top 10 in offense. I've been a Browns fan for 25 years and this is the best thing I can remember since the Kardiac Kids. Leave things the way they are and let's keep things rolling and get to the playoffs and worry about Quinn next year.
