Frye off to Seattle

By Pat McManamon

Charlie Frye's days with the Browns appear to have ended.

WTAM, part of the the team's flagship radio network, reported this morning that the Browns are trying to trade Frye today. If he can't be traded, he might be cut to make room for Ken Dorsey.

FOXSports.com football writer Jay Glazier is reporting that the Browns have traded Frye to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth-round pick. The Seahawks have been seeking a backup quarterback so that they can move current backup Seneca Wallace into other positions around the field.

The Browns made no comments as of early afternoon.

Other speculation concerning Frye had centered around a deal with either the Atlanta Falcons or New York Giants.

The Giants have lost starter Eli Manning for up to a month with a shoulder injury sustained in an Opening Day loss Sunday night at Dallas. The Falcons' quarterback situation has been in turmoil since Michael Vick was charged in connection with a dog-fighting operation this summer. Joey Harrington did not play well in Atlanta's loss at Minnesota.

Going to another team would be quite a turnaround for Frye, the former University of Akron quarterback.

Two days ago he was the team's starting quarterback in the season opener. He completed 4-of-10 passes for 34 yards in the Browns' 34-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Frye threw an interception and was sacked five times.

    Goodbye Charlie,

Just another quarterback that the Cleveland Browns have destroyed. He was never given a legitimate shot in Cleveland, i.e. 3 Offensive coordinators, no offensive line. I wish Charlie the best of luck with Seattle, but what is with Phil Savage's love of Derek Anderson?? At halftime on Sunday, his numbers were worse than Charlie's, 3-10 passing for 34 yards and a fumble. I say start Brady now and forget Derek Anderson.

Charlie, like Bernie before him, gets that elusive Super
    Bowl Ring!!!!!

What a SHAME! Charlie you are the BOMB and you will shine in Seattle by the way it is an AWESOME city. Shame on the Cleveland Browns as they never gave Charlie a fair shot. Let me tell this to the Browns establishment- You Loose! Charlie best of Luck in Seattle I know you will flourish there.

Beat it. Say hello to the 2010 Arena League MVP: Chazz Frye! (i see him going to the double zz as a way to increase marketability.)

Charlie is a good guy in a bad situation. Coach never has come out and backed him 100%. I think until the Browns figure out the direction we are going in we will always be the laughing stock of the NFL. We have had more coaches since our return the the Steelers, and Cowboys have ever had. Why can't we get a staff together and keep it together. If I were the Lerners I would be screaming at Savage and Crennel to make sure we get a solid game plan going forward. We have no direction on this team. Can you imagine any team in the league doing what Crennel did Sunday?? Coin flip???? It embarasses me being a Browns fan, this mess should have been taken care of in the Pre-Season not during the season. Hell looking back on Pre Season Dorsey looked like the best QB we had?? I hope we do not flip anymore coins to see who is starting and for once I would like to see Crennel get psit off on the sidelines when guys get stupid penalties. ANd a bit of advise for the coach, after getting your ass beat on Sunday the smirk on the face during Mondays press conference does not sit well with the fans. I wish I had the money to buy this team….To think my entire garage/pool area is nothing but Browns makes for a long season.

Charlie was never given a fair shot in Cleveland. He never had a fully functional and healthy offensive line, his running backs have never produced and his receivers never all healthy. Just shows how bad of shape the browns are in if they are going to give their starting quarterback a quarter and a half to prove himself then trade him 48 hours later. I have faith in him and I think he will go on to have a solid career. I just don't understand what the Browns see in Derek Anderson. He had played one good half of football against the chiefs and other than that he has done nothing worthwhile. He will lose terribly to Cinci, and Brady Quinn will be thrown to the wolves just like Tim Couch was. 3 years from now Brady Quinn's names will be used when discussing potential quarterbacks that were rushed and ruined…just like Tim Couch, David Carr, and Joey Harrington. The Browns need to take a page out of the packers book….Aaron Rodgers has gotten to watch Favre play for a couple of years…and when he gets his shot he will be ready. The Brady Quinn era of frustration and disappointment is about to begin.

  7. Browns Fan No More Says:

I can't believe what they just did too Charlie. I'm 42 and a lifetime fan with season tickets since 99 (even though I have live in Hampton, VA for the last 18yrs). It cost my wife and I about $500 for each game we attend (which is usually 4 games per year, including last Sundays debacle) and we haven't seen a win since we beat Atlanta to go to the playoffs. That's a long long time. While I hoped Charlie would be our savior if we just stuck with him for 4 or 5 yrs, I was perfectly accepting of the Brady Quinn era and hoped the 1-2 punch of Quinn starting and Frye as a backup would serve us well through the glory days of the future (ha ha). Now that they perpetuate their stupidity by releasing Frye, I am genuinely not interested in flying back for any more games this year and will no longer need to go to sports bars to watch the games that I don't attend. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that I'll renew my season tickets. After 42 yrs, I feel like I've lost a loved one, but I just can't take it anymore. The only redemption of all that money to see yrs and yrs of only losses (in fact one season we didn't even score a single touchdown at the 4 games we went too) was that someday it would all pay off when we were good again. Until they get rid of Crenel and maybe Savage too, I can no longer back this team an show support for those kinds of people. I'll miss my stadium PSL neighbors (the bright spot of coming to games) and the atmosphere walking downtown to the stadium (it's the best in the NFL). Good luck Charlie! Maybe I'll fly to Seattle now?

  8. seahawks fan in akron Says:

fire frye and retain the stone handed edwards/winslow combination? fire frye and retain savage/crennel?

i can't wait to see how much more awesome the browns are against the bengals without that dead weight charlie frye mucking up the works, because everyone knows the browns are such a tight organization except for that frye guy. maybe braylon was right to jump his s**t on national television last year. frye's obviously the problem.

us seattle fans want to thank the browns. this will free up seneca to be all over the place (especially the end zone) in game 8.
