Black also asked "is that all he does?" about Bok. His chain is weekly shoppers, which is what the Beacon is becoming. John Knight must be churning. How long until the Plain Dealer takes over? They've already got the sports.

I'm touched to be remembered at this wake.
Trust me Smitty, Mencken is a figment of someone
other than Chip's imagination.

I knew the ABJ was in trouble when one of their photographers told me
that Black told them that they had the best camera equipment in the chain,
and that they were lucky to have what they did.

Good luck Chip.

Mr. Bok,

I got it right! I told my mom that a lot of young people use the Mac and older people use the PC. We did research together on why Mr. Obama changed his mind and I thought it was a good decision because it sounded like Mr. McCain would have gotten a lot of money from other people anyway.

After my mom made me do research on what happened, I really thought your cartoon was even better and it all made sense. Even Mr. McCain's poster.

It was really nice (and even cool) of you to write me back.

Thank you.

Ed and Wendy are right ,you were the last unique thing going for the Beacon.
I guess I had a clue when you said Black was suprised that the Beacon had a cartoonist. Now no cartoonist and no interest in the paper on my part.
Heck this was the job you wanted 32+ years ago, now you can do it without a boss. Other than yourself. Thanks for pissing me off and making me laugh.

Ditto Ed. After 18 years, I cancelled my subscription first thing Monday morning. The things that made the Beacon a paper unique and worth reading are vanishing into thin air and this was the last straw for me. Good luck Chip.

When McCain couldn't guarantee the interference of the 527s, he backed out. Can't say I blame him on that one.

I am so excited about the prospect of another book. Your wit is well placed in the world of children's literature with political satire. I've really enjoyed checking in here for your latest and will just change the bookmark to the Syndicate. I know the wind will be always at your back.

Well, there goes my last reason for getting the Beacon Journal. I wonder if David Black ever reads his own paper. Good luck, Chip. I hope you land in somebody's newsroom. That's where you belong. Mike Douglas must have been a good editor to have held onto you all this time.

Ellen, Ohio.com will maintain this website but I won't be making new additions to it. I'll post new cartoons to a new website, bokbluster.com, and link back to this site for archive material.

Len, I bet your teacher wants you to think about the cartoon for yourself but a lot of people had trouble with this one so I'll help you out. It's a take-off on the Mac/PC commercials on tv. Obama being the hip and easy to use Mac while McCain is the stodgy and somewhat non intuitive PC. McCain and Obama promised to accept public funding so as to reject the allegedly unfair influence of private contributions.

McCain kept his promise but as soon as Obama broke his promise as soon as he realized he had far more money available from private contributions. He amassed over a $600million war chest enabling him to buy massive amounts of air time.

Campaign reform was McCain's pet issue and public campaign financing is now probably a thing of the past.
