Boob tube to YouTube

A year and a half ago Steven Chen and Chad Hurley used credit cards to launch their video site, YouTube. The site was soon hosting 100 million video clips. Chen and Hurley were concerned. With no advertising, the more viewers the site drew the more money they lost. (Forbes has the details here.)

No problem.  This week Google snapped up YouTube as part of its world take-over program.  The 20 something Chen and Hurley are now billionaires. (The Independent has a good account.)


HP monitors non-al Qaeda calls

Hewlett-Packard independent chairwoman,Patricia Dunn, was forced out.  She will step down in January. 

The point of having an independent chair was to keep close tabs on management.  She may have taken her charge a little too seriously.  In an effort to catch leakers, she hired private-eyes to  secretly investigate board member phone calls.

If HP still wants an outsider, Patrick Fitzgerald may be available soon.

Solar System Cutbacks

We've been enduring painful cutbacks at the Akron Beacon Journal. But these are mere worldly concerns. 

Any doubt that scientists hold the real power was dispelled when they gave Pluto the pink slip.

Six Dell batteries have overheated.  Dell is recalling 4.1 million of the things.

As far as I know, after passing the boarding area strip search, laptops are the only thing you may keep on the plane with you.  Of course, they must be turned off and used only as fig leaves. 

Otherwise they could explode and leave a nasty rash.
