Rove Rage

Rove says Bush has encouraged him to write a book. Publishers give Rove raves but don't think he'll get a Clintonesque advance. "The question is whether he'll write a candid, forthcoming, interesting book", according to the Washington Post. Democratic inquisitors hoping to trip him up Libby style may have to settle for written answers.

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006Unwilling to give up the spotlight, secret agent woman Valerie Plame and her husband, Joe Wilson, are frog marching Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and Scooter Libby into civil court for blowing her cover. A Time/CNN report doesn't think the lawsuit stands much of a chance.
A two and a half year special counsel investigation found no crime in Ms. Plame's exposure. Wilson was not charged either for outing her in his Who's Who in America entry. Christopher Hitchens has a link to a pdf of the actual Who's Who entry on Slate.
Maybe Vice President Cheney should keep his powder dry for his friends.

Thursday, April 13th, 2006Can a president leak? It's a theological question. Aquinas tells us the very act of a presidential leak causes the substance of the leak to be declassified and therefore renders the act not to be a leak at all.
Bush released information that showed Joe Wilson, husband of secret agent woman, Valerie Plame, was telling lies about him. Dick Cheney's aid, Scooter Libby, leaked this information to Judith Miller of the New York Times. That enraged Wilson who then accused the administration of outing his wife. According to independent prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, that was a lie too. Amen.
Self Inflicted Wound
Friday, December 9th, 2005Daniel Henninger askes in the WSJ, "How is it in the press's interest to be an enabler in the indictment of a leaker? Bringing legal ruin to a public official under either law(the Intelligence Identities Protection act if 1982 or the Espionage Act of 1917) would suppress the future flow of information to the public. Leaks would come in unmarked brown envelopes."
