Citizen Fox

President Bush visited Arizona last week.  Mexican president, Vicente Fox, campaigned in Utah, California, and Washington state this week. Both are trying to influence U.S. immigration policy.

They're not really meeting each other.  It's a cartoon.  I can make them do whatever I want.

"It's not with fences that we are going to solve this problem,"
says Fox.  Bush wants to strengthen the border with chainlink national guardsmen.  In exchange for better border security he wants a path to citizenship for Mexicans who are already here.  President Fox is already here.  He is Mexican.  He qualifies.

President Bush laid out a compromise plan to win over the anti-immigration wing of his own party.  With a little tweaking he's sure to have a deal.

Star Spanglish Banter

The Star Spangled Banner was a poem written by Francis Scott Key during the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.  The hit poem was later set to the tune of a popular drinking song and soon replaced 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall as our national anthem.

After the U.S. surrender to Mexico in 2006 the anthem was changed to Spanish. The actual meaning of the lyrics were also altered.  Roughly translated from the Spanish, the anthem now says, "although your water is safer, our cerveza is better".

Illegal, On Strike, Get Used To It

I like immigrants.  But it's a little galling to see the illegal ones pull a power play like yesterday's walkout.  They were saying our law is meaningless and we are powerless to stop them.  It reminds me of the intimidation of Europe by threatening cartoonists for drawing Muhammad.

The response seems the same:  try not to provoke them.
