Tiger Woods may own the Firestone South Course but the University of Akron owns a big downtown hotel. The hotel is to become a dorm except for the part of it that will remain a hotel. The school recently reversed a policy that allowed convicted felons to live in its dorms.
This particular comic kind of had me wondering. First, are you against the University's Purchase? Second, why is it so bad that a convict felon can stay in a dorm? Does and individual lose all rights because he/she went to jail? I personally don't think so. Should these individuals be scrutinized a little more closely? Possibly. I would hope that since the record of an adult is public domain they would at least screen for sexual predators, murderers, and drug dealers. But vehicular manslaughter is a felony. So should some poor girl who got into an accident and killed someone be denied on campus housing?
Um.
We thought this was a very funny commentary. The juxtaposition of these two groups will be quite interesting for the next few years.
I'd want to know if my kid was rooming with a felon.
