Goddam Chip, what's all the fuss? In WW2 I slapped a young soldier boy in a hospital, called him a coward and now I'm an American icon of courage, strength, and patriotism. Hell lookin' back, it was good for the ol' image.
This is what retired Lieutenant General William E. Odom, US Army had to say about winning in Iraq. Odom was also the head of the National Security Agency from 1985 to 1988.
"The challenge we face today is not how to win in Iraq; it is how to recover from a strategic mistake: invading Iraq in the first place. The war could never have served American interests.
"But it has served Iran's interest by revenging Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran in the 1980s and enhancing Iran's influence within Iraq. It has also served al Qaeda's interests, providing a much better training ground than did Afghanistan, allowing it to build its ranks far above the levels and competence that otherwise would have been possible.
"We cannot 'win' a war that serves our enemies interests and not our own. Thus continuing to pursue the illusion of victory in Iraq makes no sense. We can now see that it never did.
So Rup.. er George, have you finished creating your news network yet?
Do Winston Churchill next. I like him.
"Good afternoon folks, this is your captain speaking.
Denial and disconnect is just a comfy chair, a good novel, and an ice-cold margarita on the decks of the Good Chip Lollipop. "
"Icebergs? What Icebergs…. I don't see no stinkin' icebergs…"
"BAND… PLAY LOUDER… ENGINE ROOM….FULL SPEED AHEAD !!!!! "
“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
BOK, you are impressing me even more with your perfect read on the current Democratic leadership.
What leadership? These guys are self-destructing in their own partisan hysteria to create false scandals and promote the illusion that we are losing the war. When we win, they are screwed. Seek the truth, but don't expect to find it in the hollywood media.
I think your cartoon having Sen.Reid calling a soldier a loser was way out of line because it didn't show the truth of the matter. I have never written anything before but that one really spoke to me that you are out of line.
"the war is lost" sounds like that is exactly how Mr. Reid sees our brave troops. I am just glad that someone without a political agenda finally called him on it. Thank You Mr.BOK
To equate Harry Reid saying we are losing the war with calling our soldiers losers is like saying Akron lost industrial jobs because Ohioans, and in particular the workers of Akron, are losers.
