It's incredible the amount of time that has been wasted parsing the terms "civil war" and "cut and run" as if that changes one effin' thing on the ground. Cut and run is a pretty attractive alternative compared to "stuck like a shipwreck".
I don't know, Mencken. I've been calling the war a "coup d'etat" for a few weeks now and I'm feeling much better about things. My wife prefers "coupe de ville."
Calling it a coup d'etat would require that someone was actually in charge of Iraq after Saddam.
Perhaps you were more likely thinking about a "coup de' grace".
