The ABC docudrama, Path to 9/11, caused protests from Clinton administration members over inaccuracies.  CBS canceled a similar smear job called The Reagans in 2003 after Republican complaints.

Clinton national security adviser, Sandy Berger, was especially miffed over a scene that shows him slamming down the phone when being asked for permission to whack bin Laden.  He says it never happened.  The scene was removed.

Berger was last seen in real life stuffing his pants with secret documents at the National Archive.

Re: "Bok doodles while Rome burns"

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Of course the man doodles. If you haven't caught on yet that is his job.

  3. Spartacus Says:

Doodle: To draw or scribble idly.

    "while Rome burns"

Agree or not. You get the reference…yes ?

At first glance I thought this cartoon was of Tom Noe with his pockets stuffed with illegal Bush campaign contributions, coins, and IOU's from the RNC, but alas no…. Bok chose instead to dig up Sandy Berger's crimes and misdemeanors from over a year ago…. those being more relevant to Ohioans than yesterday's conviction and sentancing in one of Ohio's biggest political scandals. But really, how important is the $50 million fiasco Noe sucked the Ohio Workers Comp Fund into, compared to what even the Wall Street Journal said (about Berger's peccadillo), "Some people won't let a bad conspiracy theory go"

Fiddling…doodling…. it's all the same in this case.

Congratulations Slop on being the first one to completely miss the point.

has there EVER been an editorial cartoonist whose comments, via his cartoons, focus on the most POINTLESS subjects? i realize he is a right-wing hack, but jesus, can't he at least TRY and address something currently important to the region or nation?? is that too much to ask??

  9. Slope Says:

    "POINTLESS subjects"

Pointless. My God all the media talked about was the Dems objecting to the TV program. It was not only national but international news.

  10. kj Says:

i was referring to MOST EVERYTHING Bok chooses to base his work on and this one is POINTLESS. POINTLESS because it doesn't matter what sandy berger did and got fined for. it had no relation to the ABC movie. it didn't deal with the FACT that repubs, as well as dems, like BILL BENNETT said the movie had MADE-UP PARTS and put words in people's mouths. kinda like CBS did to beloved st. Ronnie in their movie.

POINTLESS because Bok doesn't actually ADDRESS ANYTHING PERTINENT TO THE CONTROVERSY in his cartoon! got it?

  11. mencken Says:

This is Bok's house and he can draw and say what he likes and then deal with whatever praise and blow-back that comes his way. It's his job to irritate folks to some degree, although he has become like the mother who criticizes other people's parenting skills while her own children run around the restaurant yelling and screaming. "But loyal readers…..they're so..so…..CUTE."

But as I've said to other folks here on other issues: Deal with it or leave it alone. You don't have to be here.

Having said that, I completely agree with KJ's comments. Bok's clumsy attempts to distract the masses from the real issues of the days are transparent and do little but damage his own once fine national reputation.

I've wondered lately if Bok even remembers what the original political ideal he is trying to prop up here. How bad does it have to get before Bok and the Tories here admit that this administration has serious ethical and credibility issues ?

This week alone both Bob Ney and Tom Noe were sentanced to prison. More Republicans will shuffle off to the pen once Ney is done rolling over. If we see anything here about these two, it will only serve to put some duct tape to Bok's credibility. There will be no bite or anger to the cartoons. He may even feel that a Bert Lance or Billy Carter cartoon would be perfect timing.

But I for one am not trying to convince guys like Chip, or Larry or Mick, or Slope to switch teams and become liberals.

    Far from it.

I'd just like them to start considering becoming Republicans again and save their party from the inarticulate frat boy that sits in the Oval office, who regurgitates ideology that is clearly not of his own mind and soul. Most times Bush doesn't even begin grasp the basic tenets and layers of what he says. W may be a decent guy to his wife and children, but to more and more folks he's just President Teddy Ruxpin with the same worn out tape of a few trite, jingoistic phrases that reveal nothing but the shallowness, devisiveness, and utter helplessness of the Unihabited Man that is our president. Why he continues to receive your unconditional support is something I would love to have someone explain to me.

  12. Slope Says:

"Why he continues to receive your unconditional support is something I would love to have someone explain to me"

Because he has the courage of his convictions. Not like that coward before him who ignored one terrorist attack aftr another.

  13. mencken Says:

You're speaking of Ronald Reagan ?

  14. spartacus Says:

Slope: Custer had the the courage of his convictions and bad intel as well.

A couple of questions: After the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon and the first WTC bombing, which countries should have Reagan and Clinton invaded and why?

  15. mencken Says:

It's a Slippery Slope when you call a man a coward.

  16. mencken Says:

So there is none among you in this group of armchair warriors that will rise up and defend your President ?

  17. larry d. Says:

From what Mencken? You're writing nonsense and seem confused. Have you forgotten your meds again?

  18. mencken Says:

    It's a simple question Larry.

  19. larry d. Says:

What does 'unihabited' mean? Is that an allusion to the nun who was recently killed?

  20. Spartacus Says:

    Keep dancin' Larry.
