I think collaborator works better . Lieberman lost a lot of his support, ( and I'm not sure he really had much to begin with ) during his debate with Cheney. When Cheney stated that he had made his fortune with no help from the government - Lieberman said nothing. Without belaboring the point, Cheney has spent his entire career feeding at the public trough. When Joe sat on his hands, the election was over.
