It's not so much who reads "the news" as what they're given to read. Ed Murrow was extremely circumspect in that regard. Present-day news presenters work for producers who in turn work for sales departments, much more directly than in Murrow's day. They read what they're told to read, assertions to the contrary notwithstanding; whereas Murrow was his own editor and had, in Fred Friendly, a producer who shared Murrow's highly-informed world view.

I think animated characters would do a better job than most anchors. Get really great readers to read the stories, and then animate the anchors. It would be 100 times more compelling and fun to watch.

Whoever does this hereby owes me money.
