Promoting Discrimination In Virginia

by The Reverend on February 23, 2010

in conservatives,GOP,intolerance,moral values

One of the elections Republicans love pointing to and braying about, along with the election of GOP President, Scott Brown of Massachusetts, is the recent Virginia election for governor.

The Republican, Bob McDonnell, won that Viginia election for governor by a wide margin….and along with the New Jersey GOP governor win….many conservatives, and virtually all media Villagers, started trumpeting the end of the Obama era (a whole 1 year) and the return of Republicans and conservatives to power.

In one of his first acts as Virginia's governor, McDonnell…..

…on Feb. 5 signed an executive order that prohibits discrimination "on the basis of race, sex, color, national origin, religion, age, political affiliation, or against otherwise qualified persons with disabilities," as well as veterans.

Prohibiting discrimination is a good thing and it's good to see a Republican executive take a stand on the state of Virginia's hiring practices.

Or is it?

What Gov. McDonnell did in issuing his non-discrimination statement was rescind the previous 2006 non-discrimination executive order by former Democratic Governor, Tim Kaine. Gov. Kaine's 2006 executive order included a prohibition against discrimination based on sexual orientation.

According to Talking Points Memo, in 2006, former Governor Kaine added two new groups to Virginia's can't-discriminate-against list……veterans and gays. The new Virginia Republican Governor McDonnell kept the veterans on the protected list…..but scratched the gays off the list. Now in Virginia, gays can be openly discriminated against by state officials. Sexual orientation can now be a question on job applications in Virginia…..AND…the state can refuse to hire a gay Virginia citizen simply because he or she is gay.

Village media and conservative wishful thinkers have just been gleeful about the New Jersey and Virginia governor wins by the GOP. That's understandable really. When you look at the long downward slide the Republican Party has taken over the last 6-8 years, how the GOP was trounced so badly in 2006 and 2008…..it's perfectly understandable for conservatives, and the Village media who adores them, to get excited about even a glimmer of electoral hope.

But, then……with GOP Governor Bob McDonnell's openly discriminatory executive order…… the rest of America, you know, the majority,….are quickly reminded why it is that the Republican Party is so unpopular. It's the hate….and the division that it brings with it.

Governor McDonnell is carrying the Karl Rove banner onward……the same hateful banner that produced 17 discriminatory state initiatives (regrettably, one in Ohio) in 2004's general election. Those 17 gay-bashing state referendums were placed on ballots in 2004…..and pay close attention here……specifically for the purpose of INCENTIVIZING conservatives to come out and vote for George W. Bush. Rovian Republican strategy, as we're seeing now again with Gov. McDonnell of Virginia, includes baiting voters with hate.

What does Governor McDonnell acomplish, really, by striking down his predecessor's all-inclusive prohibition against discrimination? Sure, Virginia employers who hate gays, can feel justified now that they're not violating any state rules when they openly discriminate against qualified applicants who happen to be gay. Small consolation for small minds, I guess.

What, I think, Gov. McDonnell's new executive order really does is send a message to all those other American haters out there. The message is: 'Republicans are resurgent, and so is the hate'….'we're back, and we're just as hateful'….'be proud to be a hater.'

All this, naturally, is tragic. Many conservatives, who normally vote Republican, do not embrace this gay-bashing hate. Many conservatives, whom I disagree with on a daily basis over other policy issues, do not accept blanket hiring discrimination against gay Americans. I expect that many conservatives will disagree with what Gov. McDonnell ordered, even though, apparently, he has the legal right to do so.

When you couple Gov. McDonnell's executive order to openly discriminate against gays…..with the conservative Hate-a-thon last weekend at the CPAC convention where John Birch Society vendors were warmly welcomed and Hispanic Americans openly bashed and ridiculed…..this question comes to mind…..

Who…other than haters….would want anything to do with today's conservative movement?

    The coming battle for America:

It is not Democrats V Republicans, but Progressivism V Constitutionalists.

Progressives contrary to their name believe in regressive income taxes, and founded the IRS.
Progressives, believe in freedom robbing larger government.
Progressives, believe it is ok to confiscate the wealth of others and give it to those they choose. (mostly themselves)
Progressivism, is a long term evolution to socialism as opposed to the revolutionary tenants of Marxism, but the goal is the same, to subjugate the worker class, and tear down the producers, giving the political power to the elitist, who think they know better than you do, on how you should live your lives.
Progressive policies formed the Federal Reserve System, giving government control over the value of your money and property.
Progressive policies created and extended the Great Depression, it was only War, that ended the depression, not Government. And it was Progressive policies that led to the Japanese attack on this nation.

Constitutionalists, believe that our founding fathers knew the tyranny that large government will cause, and deliberately limited its power, and this ideal has been violated time and time again.
These violations have led to misery and poverty, and are the root of this nations problems.
This nation, can recover if free people are allowed and encouraged to act in their own best interest without government interference.

Progressive/Marxism/Nazi Fascism, is the ideological scourge of the earth, that has killed more people, (6 million Jews, 40 Million Russians, 50 Million Chinese, and uncounted millions in South America and Cuba) than any other ideology including Christianity and Islam. Progressive leaders, are notorious for leading from the barrel of a gun, and require massive government “law” enforcement agencies to maintain order, and punish dissidents, which means a loss of basic rights as free speech and free assembly.

Progressive ideologies have failed each and every time they have been tried. People are too fallible and independent, to tolerate a totalitarian type government necessary to implement a full socialistic agenda, let alone work hard enough, without reward for their labors, to support a socialist agenda, leading to an unsustainable economy, and ultimately a collapse of the government, and chaos. Progressives are found across the political party spectrum, it is a big government disease that Democrats and Republicans fall ill.

The solution to our nations problems are simple, the restructuring and dismantling of the obese federal government will be complex, but if we work together, through personal sacrifice we can reduce our government, and get it out of our lives. Funny thing, when Constitutionalists have cut taxes the country thrives, and the government has more funds to do its job, the problem arises when the government does not cut and control spending to those programs that encourage individuals, not subjugate them.
Today Progressive Policies have led to a National Debt of 12 plus trillion dollars, (40,000) for every man woman and child in this nation, and a figure that even if the progressives succeeded in confiscating every dollar in profit of the fortune 500 companies, would take 100 yrs to pay off, come on, doesn’t that fact alone prove that Progressivism is wrong and dangerous, you can not take and take, and expect people to keep giving. It has been proved that raising tax rates reduce the amount of tax collected, so why do progressives keep punishing the successful? Because they don’t want a rich and powerful America, what they want is the wealth and power for themselves, and because they can not earn it, the want to steal it. And that is the TRVTH.

  • Jacquie

Jeff, you left out a few things. You forgot that progressives invented disease and lima beans and car crashes. Progressives created hangovers, tornadoes, forgetfulness, littering, paper cuts, drinking out of the carton, and tooth decay.

Progressives chew with their mouths open, leave toast crumbs in the butter, leave the toilet seat up, have annoying car alarms, take up two parking spaces, and break wind in public.

Progressives take badly framed pictures, have mismatched luggage, annoying laughs, and ugly pets. They don't RSVP, leave their Christmas lights up till February, and won't replace the paper towel roll.

Progressives cause the sun to shine in your eyes, reception to be bad on your TV, and yellow spots on leafy vegetables. Progressives say 'supposably' instead of 'supposedly'. Progressives sell hot dogs in packs of 10 and buns in packs of 8. Progressives have sweat stains in their shirts.

They make websites with horizontal scrolling, take forever to order in the drive through, make quotation marks with their fingers, break wheels on shopping carts, and pay for a pack of gum with a credit card. They invented flies and mosquitoes, heartburn, and entropy.

Or wait was that conservatives. Nevermind I never can keep it all straight.

  • The Reverend

You know how sometimes you drool on your pillow while sleeping?

Progressives were the ones who started that.

Jeff….I see that you haven't taken my advice. Because I call myself a liberal, I couldn't possibly know anything about anything,……so there's that……but I swear to ya'……Sean, Rush, Glenn, WorldNetDaily, the American Thinker, FOX, and the other people from whom you gather your information….are lying to you.

    They are.

Do you know how Republicans exploit the evangelicals? You know, act like they are all against abortion….and then when conservative voters put them in office, nothing changes. Ever notice that?

Now, wingnut welfare media is doing the same thing to conservatives. They are exploiting conservative viewers and listeners, saying a whole bunch of lying, crazy sh*t to keep people listening, viewing and clicking……and make a whole bunch of money from the advertising that exploited conservatives provide by tuning in. Those I listed could care less if they're lying to you. They get filthy rich lying to you and making up the wildest, most bizarre storylines. They revise and distort history, often in real-time. And they don't care about anything…..America, listeners, viewers, conservatives, Christians….no one but themselves. The more that conservatives take in the lies and the distortions, the more dependent they become on the very wingnut welfare media which is lying to them. Nothing makes sense to those viewers outside the wingnut make-believe narrative.

Ya' gotta' get that monkey off your back.

  • Da King

    Rev,
I was kinda with you on this post until you got to this bit of fantastic liberal wish-it-were-so invention:

"Those 17 gay-bashing state referendums were placed on ballots in 2004…..and pay close attention here……specifically for the purpose of INCENTIVIZING conservatives to come out and vote for George W. Bush."

I'm paying close attention, alright. I'm not sure you are.

First of all, it was the PEOPLE who were voting the gay marriage ban up or down. They all voted it down. It wasn't Bush or Rove who did it.

Second, and most importantly, the Democratic candidate for President in 2004, John Kerry, WAS AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE TOO, as follows:

"My position is clear and you've heard it many times in the course of this campaign," the four-term senator from Massachusetts said Friday. "I personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. I support extending rights to people that are non-discriminatory, that afford rights under the equal protection clause of the Constitution — meaning civil union or other rights so that you have non-discriminatory status — but I believe marriage is between a man and a woman."

Bush also believed in the civil unions. The Reverend would have us believe Bush and Rove cooked up a strategy to defeat Kerry on an issue where Kerry held the exact same belief as Bush. That's a political wash. No advantage for either candidate.

    Nice try.

  • Da King

    Rev,
While you list off all the "liars" on the right, has it ever occurred to you that there are a boatload of liars on the left ??? I can't listen to a liberal talk for five minutes without hearing "the big lie" spew forth. For one proof, see my previous comment. For a hundred more, see my blog.
With some, such as your boy Olbermoron, it doesn't even take five minutes. WE play a game at my house. We turn on Olby and say we'll watch it until he says something that's not true. It usually takes less than 30 seconds for us to turn the channel.

  • Bubba

King, if you have any children and are forcing them to watch Olberman I am going to report you to Child Services for endangerment.

  • The Reverend

Rove worked with state GOP'ers (like Blackwell in Ohio) to have those gay-bashing initiatives placed on state ballots.

The purpose was to, as I said, incentivize conservative voters to come out to the polls. It's called demagogery…..or playing to the hate.

  • Da King

    Bubba,
No kids. They are grown and on their own. I wouldn't subject them to Olby. That would be cruel and unusual punishment.

  • Da King

    Rev,
You'll have to explain to me how a state gay marriage referendum would be any less likely to bring out the pro-gay marriage voters than it would the anti-gay marriage people. Your theory makes no sense whatsover to me, and as I explained previously, there was no advantage for Bush over Kerry there.
