Muslim McCarthyism & Death Prayers

by The Reverend on November 20, 2009

in Barack Obama, GOP, fearmongering, intolerance, moral values, religion

Pat Robertson (Wingnut for God), Pete Hoekstra(R-MI), Chuck 'Pulling the Plug on Grandma' Grassley (R-KS), Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Sarah Palin (Celebrity)…..all have something very much in common.

Rachel Maddow explains…..

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Bashing Muslims is back in vogue…..not that it ever fell out of favor within the more imaginative far right winger groups. But I find it remarkable that 2 GOP Senators think al-Qaeda "sympathizers" now work for the U.S. Justice Department. AG Eric Holder found it remarkable too…and worthy of a guffaw.

Having already alienated women, blacks, and Hispanics…I guess the only group left for xenophobic Republicans to offend is the .6% of Americans who are Muslim.

Do we absolutely have to retrace the ugliness of the Joe McCarthy red scare days? Can't Republicans learn anything? Ever?
____________________

But if you can believe it……the new Muslim McCarthyism in the Republican Party is mild in comparison with the mighty moral warriors of the American evangelical kind.

The new "take it to Jesus" slogan for the evangelical nuts in America is Psalms 109.

Here's the new bumper sticker you can buy from zazzle.com…..

pray_for_our_president_psalms_109_8_bumper_sticker-p128713842374171659tmn6_525

What would a person praying for President Obama on the basis of Psalms 109…be praying FOR?…..

8May his days be few;

may another take his place of leadership.

9May his children be fatherless

and his wife a widow.

10May his children be wandering beggars;

may they be drivend from their ruined homes.

Those righteous Bible believing Christians who pray FOR Obama on the basis of Psalms 109 would be praying for him to be dead and his two young girls to be homeless, wandering beggars.

These are the same folks who call the Prince of Peace and Love their Master and Saviour.

Shucks…it's all just good funnin'…..

ABC….

For many, the slogan is just a humorous way express disapproval for President Obama. It's been tweeted and retweeted by Obama critics with messages like "too funny" and "an excellent prayer for America."

See? In the minds of evangelical followers of Jesus, it's just "too funny" to pray for Obama to be dead and for Obama's children to be homeless. Humorous.

But it's those American Muslims who are threatening our nation.

Jesus.

Slow day? Nothing legit to complain about?

First, you never complained when people joked about killing President Bush. So, your lack of credibility is showing.

Second, the bumper sticker says Psalm 109:8, ir says nothing about verses 9 and 10. You added those.

The Reverend November 20, 2009 at 5:18 pm

No one joked about killing Bush.

Defending a prayer for Yahweh to intervene and end the life of an American president is exceptionally classy.

bzzzzp November 20, 2009 at 5:31 pm

Again I point out that you added verses 9 and 10, they aren't mentioned on the bumper sticker.

good eye bzzzzzp. Rev don't make things out to be what they aren't. Exageration is why people don't trust and hate the media. There isn't one real Christian in this country that if his kids needed food or clothing or something they wouldn't give it to them. No one wants Obama to die, they want him and his staff to stop lying to us, keep his word, stop taxing us to death and let us live our lives peacefully and free.

Exageration = lies.

Now as far a Bush goes does burning him in effigy count, as wanting him dead. By both misguided American libs and Muslims.

Also concerning the video. What is wrong with that. If this were the dark ages would they be saying the same about the catholics. Did you listen to mr khan statement about the general support for him? Rachel is another media whore just trying to make a story where there isn't one. Go figure … libs

Chris November 20, 2009 at 11:57 pm

Rev

Good point. It amazes me that some people who worship the Prince of peace are amazingly violent. Also did not Jesus say give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, give unto God what is God's. I was taught that this verse means give your loyalty and patriotism to Ceasar (government) and give your heart and soul to God. That means any lawful government deserves you loyalty and patriotism, while with your heart and soul you strive to be Christ like.

I disagreed with you concerning some of your statements concerning President Bush for the same reason I disagree with this Bumper Sticker. If we allow our selves to continue to become further and further divided by in most matters trivial items eventually we will end this great experiment of democracy.

Because any house this divided will eventually collapse (Abraham Lincoln) and during and after this collapse we will be ruled by the vilest form of autocratic government. People who think they are better than the rest. See Hitler, Ceasar, the Japanese Emporers.

Anyway thanks for letting me post my two cents.

Chris November 21, 2009 at 12:14 am

Averagejoe

You don't think that Beck and Rush don't lie and exaggerate to increase their ratings. If you don't know that they lie and exaggerate you have led a much more sheltered life than I.

These are the three basic laws of humanity as I see them. First rule of Humanity we lie. Second rule: When we lie we exaggerate. Third rule: If possible humans will use rule 1 and 2 to increase their power and control if at all possible.

Yes I am very cynical, but when you are this cynical it is very hard to be suprised by the dumb and stupid things humans do to each other. I am sure that you agree that the healthcare system (paying for healthcare services) needs to be changed somehow because American business can no longer afford to be the vehicle for the payment system. If you remove the burden of paying for healthcare from the American manufacturing system and American workers become the cheapest and most productive workers in the world. I am not saying the proper way to overhaul the system is what is in Congress today. I firmly beleive that the Republican plan that was introduced in 1994 would have put the country on the correct path, but Republican party leaders made the sponsoring Senator remove the product from debate for pure political purposes which is why I have not voted for a Republican since that date. These purely political purposes are why the Republican party has not entered into any purposeful debate on the subject because they know that if any law is passed it will help Obama tremendously in the next election. And this comes from the party that says Character Matters.

Da King November 21, 2009 at 8:10 am

How many times does bzzzp have to point out that the bumper sticker only referred to Psalms 109:8 before y'all admit that the Reverend is lying ?

Air America also ran a skit about killing Bush.

http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/archives/air_america_under_investigation_for_bush_gunshot_skit/

And there is no Muslim McCarthyism. We're only engaged in an effort to identify the radical jihadists, in order to, you know, STOP THEM FROM KILLING US.

You lie! November 21, 2009 at 8:11 am

Good point above, averagejoe. Rev does seem just to make things up – a lot, actually.

McCarthyism? When a Muslim takes a gun to an army base and yells "Allah Akbar" before shooting 50 people?

Incredible, Rev.

The Reverend November 21, 2009 at 9:18 am

You guys are kidding ….right?

The winger bumper sticker reads Psalms 109:8…..how many folks have Psalms 109:8 committed to memory and don't need to look it up? Very few, if any. Only including the numer 8 is the way wingnut's create their own plausible deniability…you know, like Bush/Cheney used to do.

There's no doubt that the intent of the bumper sticker is for Christians to publicly state, ever so cleverly, that they want Obama to be dead.

You lie…slight punctuation problem in your last line…

Not: Incredible, Rev……but Incredible Rev. There….that's better.

And this…

"McCarthyism? When a Muslim takes a gun to an army base and yells "Allah Akbar" before shooting 50 people?"

So, when Tim McVeigh did his thing….all white Christian veterans should have been profiled? Rounded up for questioning? If not, why not?

Wasn't ole' "love thy neighbor" Pat Robertson's blatherings extra special?

You lie! November 21, 2009 at 10:25 am

Oh, Rev. Always there to defend the indefensible. Really, that's what people like you do. Not mad, just disappointed. And sad for my country that there are as many like you as there are.

Hey, isn't Barack Obama holding a bunch of Muslims indefinitely down at the gulag we call Guantanamo? Just like Bush and Cheney? And didn't he announce this week he would continue to do so beyond the January deadline he set at the beginning of the era of hope and change?

I notice there hasn't been any mention of that here by you, Rev. How come?

The Reverend November 21, 2009 at 11:16 am

I've mentioned Gitmo several times. Obama changed America's policy over Gitmo. Conservatives, like you, have done their best to stop that policy from being implemented through silly and childish fearmongering.

Yes, Obama is dealing with the garbage detentions Bush left. I don't agree with everything Obama and Holder have decided…and have said so. But why would a Bush-admirer criticize Obama for doing the same thing Bush did?

"people like me"……you mean reality-based people?

bzzzzp November 21, 2009 at 11:49 am

The word McCarthyism is thrown around a lot. By now, everyone knows he was right, I hope.

I mean Hollywood could never be filled with people who don't have the US interests at heart, right?

Aside from Sean Penn, Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon, Michael Moore, Tim Robbins, and on and on and on …

It took me a while to realize this and see beyond my public school indoctrination.

You lie! November 21, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Obama changed Gitmo policy? That's a lie, you liar. Same as it ever was. Will extend beyond January.

With a filibuster-proof Senate and a 79-seat edge in the House, President Barack Obama has adopted George W. Bush's policy on Guantanamo detention for terror suspects. Deal with it.

Da King November 22, 2009 at 10:25 am

Rev says, "So, when Tim McVeigh did his thing….all white Christian veterans should have been profiled? Rounded up for questioning? If not, why not?"

Totally lame attempt at moral equivalency, Rev. There was no white Christian movement that McVeigh was leading to launch terrorist attacks against the USA. WIth the jihadist movement, there is.

And I haven't heard anybody say that all Muslims should be rounded up for questioning.

Good job of getting everything completely wrong. It's your unique talent.

Da King November 22, 2009 at 10:31 am

And Psalms 109:8 says "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership."

In this country, we accomplish that by voting him out of office, not killing him.

Might I add – Amen.

The Reverend November 22, 2009 at 10:50 am

bzzzp…McCarthy was right?? Thanks for proving that red-scare insanity is still alive and prospering in the good ole' USA.

You lie!….You should change your name to Joe Wilson…more accurate that way. Obama signed an executive order back in January CHANGING the nation's policy concerning Gitmo. That's not a lie….that's a fact. The only reason Obama will not make his early 2010 deadline is because of Republican and conservative pants wetters who are blocking the closing in every scaredy-cat way imaginable.

King….I know you don't advocate for domestic violence. I know you believe in the American process, just as I do. Having said that…the Psalmers are calling for the death of Obama and should cease and desist.

McVeigh was a former militia member. American militias are made up of disgruntled white men who play with guns. But white militia members were not profiled after Oklahoma.

You lie! November 22, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Again, Rev – a lie. You liar.

Obama can sign any piece of paper he wants, he could even sign a piece of paper saying the sky is red. He could sign a piece of paper saying unemployment is illegal. But the sky is blue. And jobs are disappearing. And Obama's Gitmo policy is the same as Bush's. And Dick Cheney's. And Rumsfeld's. Etc.

"Obama signed an executive order back in January CHANGING the nation's policy concerning Gitmo." Truly pathetic, you lying liar who tells lie-filled lies. Next time, just write "Obama said so."

You lie! November 22, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Also, there's something especially pathetic about blaming Obama's Gitmo disaster on Republicans. With 60 votes in the Senate, Obama's Democrats can do whatever they want. Literally, whatever they want.

Your beef is with Sherrod Brown and your President. Not Republicans. You liar.

The Reverend November 23, 2009 at 9:33 am

Promising to return America to the "moral high ground" in the war on terrorism, President Obama issued three executive orders Thursday to demonstrate a clean break from the Bush administration, including one requiring that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed within a year.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/22/guantanamo.order/index.html

Conservative members of Congress have stonewalled every aspect of closing Gitmo since Obama issued the order. Conservatives continue to use fearmongering as their tool of choice, just as they did under the war criminal leadership of Bush/Cheney.

Obama has disappointed….no question…..but conservative obstructionistic tactics, lies and fearmongering are the reasons Gitmo will still be open January 2010.

larry d. November 23, 2009 at 7:26 pm

Obama's a real firecracker, Reverend. Now he's siding with terrorists in favor of surviving family members of U.S. Marines:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/11/14/beirut_attack_victims_families_face_new_hurdle/

At this point, if he doesn't give Hawaii to the North Koreans we should consider ourselves lucky.

You lie! November 23, 2009 at 7:30 pm

Rev,

60 Senate Democrats. If they really wanted to get Gitmo done, it would be done. That's really all there is to it.

Pathetic.

The Reverend November 24, 2009 at 6:06 pm

Many of those 60 Dem senators are pants wetting conservatives….and I know that you know that. Hell, Lieberman is a radical neo-con Republican.

And larry…it happened 26 years ago, for Christ's sake. What's more important 26 years later…..getting Iran to cooperate over nukes or some windfall for victim's families? I'm thinking the nukes.

An aside here…Cheney's numerous violations of American law are already outside of the statute of limitations. Cheney is responsible for killing many more Americans, not to mention Iraqis, than the Beirut attack did.

It's a matter of perspective. Sometimes I think American conservatives will never be satisfied until all Muslims throughout the middle east have been annihilated.

larry d. November 24, 2009 at 6:26 pm

I'd guess the money is in the form of frozen assets somewhere, Reverend. After 26 years it's like just handing over a bunch of cash in hopes the Iranians will be nice.

The Iranians are schooling Obama, Reverend. Just like the Russians, the Chinese, etc., etc. You can't buy friends or win them through public obsequiousness.

You lie! November 24, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Cheney is responsible for killing Americans? Do tell.

Careful, Rev. This is a trick! (HINT: Schmarack Schmobama voted to fund as a Senator/is continuing to prosecute as President the "illegal" wars to which you unquestionably will refer…)

The Reverend November 25, 2009 at 7:11 pm

Yes, yes, larry…I know you long for the Commander Codpiece days when bullsh*t was plentiful. Dead or alive, mission accomplished, combat phase of Iraq war is a victory, with us or with the terrorists, axis of evil, freedom fries……makes your spine tingle doesn't it larry?…just to read those arousing words again from an American president who knew how to school those foreign leaders.

You lie….I just did, tell that is. Cheney killed American soldiers. Cheney instituted a torture campaign for the sole purpose of coercing false confessions out of detainees falsely connecting al-Qaeda with Saddam. Bush used those false confessions to window dress his lies about needing to attack Iraq. 4400 U.S. soldiers are dead because of what Bush and Cheney did. What the hell would you call people who did that…..Sunday School teachers?

You lie! November 25, 2009 at 11:21 pm

We're still in Iraq, Rev. We will be this time next year, at which point Barack Obama will have been President for nearly two years. Obama voted to fund that war when he was a Senator. And now, on his watch, that war continues.

Kind of like how now, on his (Obama's) watch, indefinite detention of terror suspects continues at Gitmo.

You are pathetic.

larry d. November 26, 2009 at 8:42 am

What's Bush have to do with my post, Reverend? We've got a new president now and he is getting schooled by foreigners time and again. It's not that he's too liberal, or that he follows Bush too much, it's just that he's nearly always wrong. Bad instincts or something.

The Reverend November 27, 2009 at 11:58 am

Obama is "getting schooled by foreigners time and time again."

It's okay to disapprove of the 11 month old presidency of the Democratic Obama. But lines of "getting schooled by foreigners" are best suited for SNL skits.

On the foreign diplomacy arena..Obama is restoring America's integrity piece by piece. You may prefer the galactically successful "cowboy", or "cowpie", methodology of the Terror Twins, but most Americans, you know, don't.

larry d. November 27, 2009 at 12:13 pm

You're right Reverend. If you take Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea, China, al Qaeda, Israel, the Palestinians and Russia out of the mix, Obama has done very well. In fact, we've nothing to fear from France or the Scandanavian countries in the foreseeable future.

Da King November 29, 2009 at 2:59 pm

larry, don't forget Iran. Iran just announced plans for 10 more nuclear enrichment facilities. Obama is working wonders there.

And did I hear the Reverend blame Obama's failure to get Gitmo closed on the Republicans ???? LOL. Dems control both houses of Congress and the presidency. Good old Rev, he sure comes up with some bizarre fairy tales. He may have the most advanced case of Olbermania I've yet seen.
