Obama & Imposter-News Reporters

by The Reverend on November 19, 2009

in Barack Obama,disinformation,economy,GOP,media

Obama, while visiting China, talks to imposter-news "reporter" Major Garrett of FOX….

Obama warned the United States' climbing national debt could drag the country into a "double-dip recession," though he said he's still considering additional tax incentives for businesses to reverse the rising unemployment rate.

"There may be some tax provisions that can encourage businesses to hire sooner rather than sitting on the sidelines. So we're taking a look at those," Obama told Fox News' Major Garrett.

"I think it is important, though, to recognize if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery, that at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could actually lead to a double-dip recession."

Digby has it right, when she says that she hopes imposter-news mischaracterized what Obama was getting at….because the national debt has very little, if anything, to do with our current economic situation.

American "news" has been spinning phony yarns for so long now that I wouldn't be the least surprised to see Village Knee Pad streetwalkers successfully convince enough Americans into believing yet another lie.

Our current recession has absoluetly NOTHING to do with the national debt doubling under the last administration. While huge national debt increases under Bush, and now Obama, are, indeed, a concern…..that debt should not be blamed in any way for our current conditions. In fact, the current near-depression conditions were created ENTIRELY by the gambling-house industries of finance, insurance and real estate. Free market greed gone wild.

If Obama actually told imposter-news "reporter" Major Garrett that a "climbing national debt could drag the country into a 'double-dip recession'"…..he's being dishonest. Obama knows better. The debt and the current recession have nothing to do with one another…..and even implying otherwise in front of imposter-news representatives is a huge political mistake.

What the country needs right now, not late next year but now, is MORE government spending to directly create jobs. Another trillion dollars is needed right now, with every dollar going to job creation instead of like the watered-down-to-mollify-dumbass-conservatives-stimulus-bill provisions passed back in February. The way to pay for that trillion is blindingly clear as well…..tax Wall Street transactions.

Wall Street is where the recession began. The recession didn't begin because the dollar crashed or China quit buying our debt. The recession began because unscrupulous money scheme connivers lost their reckless and unregulated bets to such an extent……that they all ran out of money and came to tax payers for bailouts.

As a result of banksters running out of money because they lost their reckless and unregulated bets…..money, almost overnight, became unavailable for lending to Americans in order to buy stuff…like cars, houses, etc. Massive layoffs followed. The downward cycle began. To add insult to injury…now the recession-causers are punishing consumers through reduced credit and higher interest rates and fees.

If President Obama is so foolish or "centrist" to believe that he can co-opt the TeaBagger insanity over government spending, even giving one inch by agreeing that government spending is the problem right now….then he is only setting himself up for political defeat and setting Americans up for a TeaBagger-led government in the future. I shutter at the thought.

Palin, FOX, and the TeaBaggers don't have a point when it comes to government spending……and they don't even care that they don't. The year-long wingnut nonsense about government spending, socialism, 'I want my country back', yada, yada…..is not to be taken seriously. The sole purpose of the Baggers and Co. is to return bankster-favoring Republicans back into majority government power…. the very people who helped banksters bring our country to it's knees in the first place.

Obama shouldn't attempt to triangulate with incoherent economic idiots or imposter-news "reporters"…..ever.

First of all, you didn't offer any justification at all for calling Major Garrett an impostor news reporter.

Second of all, while the federal debt is not responsible for the current recession (and I've never heard ANYONE say that it is), if you don't think all the federal debt we're accumulating is the single biggest threat to our economy and country going forward, then you simply aren't thinking.

Third, other debt, in the form of mortgage debt, credit card debt, the debt of Wall Street's overleveraging, the debt of securitizing, derivatives, etc, all together built an economic house of cards that ultimately collapsed and resulted in this recession, so DEBT is ultimately the major problem. We can't continue to live beyond our means and think that everything is going to be hunky-dory. This is a financial illusion. Even the extent to which the economy has recovered recently is part of that illusion. It's a recovery built on nothing but MORE DEBT. The very people you are condemning – the Tea Partiers, Palin, etc., are sounding this warning. Why you are condeming them is the real question.

  • The Reverend

Major Garrett has a history. He reports for FOX. Nothing else needs said.

    I reject this entirely…

" if you don't think all the federal debt we're accumulating is the single biggest threat to our economy and country going forward, then you simply aren't thinking."

The biggest imminent economic threat is jobs. If Americans don't have jobs, they don't spend, resulting in a downward spiral of lower consumer spending numbers, which only continues the downward spiral. Consumer spending accounts for about 2/3rds of the U.S. economy.

The debt, like I said, is a concern, but not an imminent threat. If Obama does not push hard for an FDR-era-like jobs program…..the national debt won't matter anymore….the social fabric could be irreparably damaged. Just sayin'.

As far as Americans being in debt……Americans are always in debt. We all live beyond our means. That's simply a fact. Our society is built around debt. Very few people could live in a home if they couldn't go into debt for 30 years. The difficulty comes when we try to figure out how much debt a person should take on. Banks want all Americans maxed out on 24% credit cards….that's their business…it's what they do. When banks are allowed to basically do what they want, without accountability, they indebt everyone in a reckless fashion and then wind up blowing everybody's money gambling on stuff like credit default swaps.

The thing that pisses me off the most about all this…..is that it just keeps happening over and over.

  • Brownstown Frown

That's great we got an "imposter news reporter" interviewing an "imposter" President". Two peas in a pod…..

  • Martin

HA HA HA rev.Another FDR solution to our problems to extend the recession like FDR did!!!

  • The Reverend

Republicans and fiscal scolds extended the Depression.

    Brownstone……turn that Frown upside down….

  • Jeff

Jobs, and who creates jobs, small business, not government. And what do you think the taxes from Health care, and to pay the crushing debt is going to do to jobs? Throw in cap and trade, boy, kiss new jobs goodbye. If you want jobs, cut taxes AND CUT SPENDING not add tax after tax entitlement after unfunded entitlement, even your CBO says that the debt is unsustainable.

As for the cause of the recession, it is the criminal corruption and social engineering of the progressives of the Democrat party. People (ie the democrat appointed crooks that ran Fanny and Freddie) should have gone to jail, But instead Barney Frank keeps telling us, nothing is wrong. Right Barney.

And Acorn, that thuggish arm of the progressives, using their power to force banks into adopting unhealthy lending practices.

This recession falls fully upon the backs of the Democrat Progressive leadership, a leadership bent on fully invested upon the Cloward Piven Strategy, of collapsing the free market capitalistic system. Right now the debt stands at 12 trillion or so, or in real terms, it would take the entire profits of the fortune 500 companies being confiscated 140 yrs to pay off this debt, tell me how does that make you feel, and how about the 106 trillion in unfunded liabilities, what happens when the system collapses, who pays for that, well let me clue you in, it is the poor, the welfare mother, the unemployed, the safety net gone, the government bankrupt, I see riots, national guard, shooting dying, and it wont be the rich marching on Washington with pitchforks, all in the name of replacing the only system that gives everyone a chance to succeed with one that gives everyone, (except the ruling elite) shared misery and poverty.

So dont tell me that debt is a good, thing, debt like any other economic factor must be within reason, it is ok to take out a mortgage, that you can afford, it is idiotic to take one out that your children need to pay for, if a family can not pay their debt, their creditors take everything they can, what happens when a nation can not pay its debt, speak chinese anyone.

As for your continued diatribe against fox news, how about this little tid bit from the Pew research, 80% of people do not think the news media in general is telling them the truth, imagine that, just maybe Fox is telling the truth and everyone else lies, we know Barry lies, we know the dems in congress lie, and we know the MSM reports these lies as the truth, so where does it end.
It ends when all ALL the media, takes responsibility for their first amendment right, a responsibility to report the truth, and not like the progressive journalist professors now preach, MAKE the news, use the NEWS for change and power, all taught in our universities by marxist professors some of who were sent here by the soviet union to do just that, change our news media into a controlled arm of the progressive movement.

You also owe it to your readers to report the truth, not make up names to belittle those who disagree with you, a sure sign that you are losing the argument when you have to attack the messenger such as Fox News you are the loser.

  • Da King

    Rev,
If you don't think the debt is the biggest problem going forward, read my post today. THAT is what will ultimately destroy our economy, and our jobs along with it.

"Major Garrett has a history. He reports for FOX. Nothing else needs said."

You're right. Nothing else need said. You're a nut.

"Banks want all Americans maxed out on 24% credit cards"

And you can thank Jimmy Carter for that. he repealed the usury laws.

" If Obama does not push hard for an FDR-era-like jobs program"

It depends on what the jobs program consists of, but I hope it's better than FDR's. After 8 years of his New Deal policies, unemployment was still around 14-15%. If that's success, I'd sure hate to see what failure would look like.

  • Jeff

King: the Blog of Mass Disinformation, probably thinks american entry into WWII was caused by Japanese aggression, wrong, it was the protectionist policies that created the great depression, if we would have been an open trading partner with Japan and the world the GD would not have happened, we would have recovered our economy, and Japan would not have been forced to attack us to gain access to oil, steel and rubber.

How does this relate, well it was the Progressives then that started these foolish policies, and it is the progressives now that are taking us down another foolish and dangerous (at least to those of us that value our individual freedom) path.

The Cloward Piven strategy is designed to end capitalism, and ending capitalism will result in a centrally controlled economy, where the government controls each and every facet of your lives.

  • The Reverend

FDR reduced the unemployment numbers he inherited by ten percentage points. That's some pretty funny stuff there about Carter. What about John Adams? Didn't he do something during his presidency too? Too funny.

Jeff, Jeff…."it was the protectionist policies that created the great depression,"

Change the channel off of FOX and quit embarassing yourself. The Depression, just like our current recession, was created by reckless, overextended, greed-fueled gambling on Wall Street. The Savings and Loan scandal, the Dot.com scandal, the Enron, WorldCom scandals, the mortgage derivatives and default swaps scandal……are all part and parcel of the same greed-gone-wild scheming that Republicans still embrace.

    "protectionist policies"….funny.

  • The Reverend

Jeff…I reread your last two comments and I must apologize…somewhat.

It isn't FOX, per se, that you're having a problem with…..you're actually channeling Glenn Beck. If I were you,…and I'm being serious….I would talk to someone about that problem. Here's the evidence that proves you need some help….

"As for the cause of the recession, it is the criminal corruption and social engineering of the progressives of the Democrat party. People (ie the democrat appointed crooks that ran Fanny and Freddie) should have gone to jail, But instead Barney Frank keeps telling us, nothing is wrong. Right Barney.

And Acorn, that thuggish arm of the progressives, using their power to force banks into adopting unhealthy lending practices."

Those symptoms are pretty well advanced….so time is of the essence.

  • Da King

Rev says, "Republicans and fiscal scolds extended the Depression."

Sweet jesus, where do you come up with this stuff ? Is there a liberal website called 'How To Reinvent History' or something ?

What party controlled Congress during the Depression ? What party was FDR from ?

    Both answers – DEMOCRAT.
