Makes No Sense

by The Reverend on November 6, 2009

in disinformation,fearmongering,GOP,health care,media

Liberal ideas…truly liberal ideas…..are rarely ever considered by Congress. The reason is that liberal ideas, somehow, are never worthy enough to be called American….even though the strength and character of America was built primarily on liberal ideas.

Take, for example, the liberal idea on health care reform. The liberal idea on health care reform is single-payer government run health care. Single-payer is the most cost efficient and most fair way to deal with health care for all Americans. Because that is the case, it can never be considered. The liberal idea of single-payer was NEVER entertained by any health care reform congressional committees. When citizen attendees at congressional health reform committee meetings stood and requested single-payer representation…..they were arrested.

Whenever this very apparent dynamic is raised in earshot of Villagers, however, Villagers only smirk and say that Obama and Congress are doing the right thing by not caving in to those liberal loons. To the mainstream media "thinkers"….and this has been true forever….the worst thing a Democratic president can do is consider truly liberal ideas, take them seriously. If a Democratic president seriously considers truly liberal ideas….then that president is caving to the lefty loons. For the Village, the very worstest action a Democratic president can take …..is to, god forbid, champion truly liberal ideas.

Out of that dyamic of total nonsense comes the often-repeated, 'the new Democratic president must move away from his "leftist" base'…..'the new Dem president must move towards the center to be effective…yada, yada'….'the president's biggest danger is in caving to his radical left.'

Having said all of that…..just think about how the Villagers would have responded if Democratic congressional leaders spoke in front of a far-leftist group of protesters favoring single-payer. What if Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer encouraged a group of far-left liberals to gather in front of the Capital steps? What if those Democratic leaders each stepped to the microphone and cheered the far-left, single-payer crowd on…telling them to be of good cheer because the far-left liberal cause of single-payer will win the day?

What if single payer protesters held big banners depicting the Republican plan for health care as comparable to Dachau, Germany concentration camps?

holocaust1

What if the Democratic National Committee chairman, Tim Kaine, told all non-single-payer favoring Democratic representatives that if they voted against single-payer, the DNC will "come after them?" What if the DNC chairman went on to tell the single-payer protesters, "we want to partner as much as possible with you?"

What if "far-leftist", Dennis Kucinich, had communist-interest groups bus in 4000 protesters to rally in front of the Capital steps for single-payer….AND Democratic leaders, Pelosi, Hoyer, etc. spoke to the tiny crowd in support of their cause?

Wouldn't the Villagers, mainstream media, be telling us today that the Democratic Party had gone over the far-left edge….that the Democratic Party had now become totally unhinged….that the Democratic Party had now been taken over by dangerous radicals?

Instead of reporting on the extremely radical nature of the players and the crazed message of yesterday's astro-turf-organized, Michelle Bachmann-led, protest in front of the Capital steps…the "liberal" N.Y.Times treated the event with respect and dignity.

Here's the best the Washington Post's Dana Milbank, ever the narcissistic wanker, could come up with….

"But this protest was unusual because it was an official House GOP event, and because some of the remarks on the stage were as outrageous as those in the crowd."

Ya' think…Dana?

In a non-dysfuntional free nation, main national media would, still today, be reporting on the insanity, the crazed hysteria of the current GOP-TeaPartier alliance. In a dysfunctional free nation, like the U.S., such a mindnumbingly, ignorant, and potentially dangerous union of extremists and political leaders is only worthy of microscopic analysis and disdain if that union is made up of Democrats.

MSNBC.com headline: Bachmann shines among grassroots conservatives

ABCnews.com….

"But if you need evidence of where the political energy and excitement has gone, one year since Grant Park, a lunchtime midday rally in Washington isn't a bad place to start.

(Try to imagine the old Obama campaign army pulling off something roughly comparable in as short a time, with as little formal planning — or even with spreadsheets and call lists and marching orders, for that matter.)"

4000 folks bussed in at the expense of Americans For Prosperity is "where the political energy and excitement has gone."

CBSnews.com headline: Anger Fuels Anti-Health Care Rally

Instead of pointing out the demented and potentially dangerous alliance, "outed" yesterday in a noontime wingnut-fest with GOP congressional leaders and the TeaBaggers…..the new offical alliance was either treated as a ho-hum story or an alliance worthy of serious respect and consideration.

The Republican Party is now, officially, the Party of the Wingnut TeaBaggers. Media response…."Yawn."

  • larry d.

Oh, I get it. Another "free speech sucks" posting.

  • Martin

Conservative rev knows that "health care"progressive style is another attempt at government control. He is just pullin your legs progressives. Its too bad we cant have a real liberal progressive to represent the socialist left who hates any form of dissent writing and posting on the ABJ.Hey Beacon Journal please find a real liberal who REALLY knows how to be rude, cuss and say anti american slogans to your readership.Oh well,it doesn't really matter, the Progressives/liberals will find a way for the government to buy this "newspaper" and us it for more of their propaganda.Right rev???

  • The Reverend

    I'm sorry, what?

Is there a bad intertubes connection, or what?

larry, is….'liberals are stifling speech'….your new default position? When there seems to be no rebuttal to what I post…..it's always..'The Rev is stifling free speech again.' Convenient.

And Martin…..whatever you've been smoking and all that.

5 million Americans, out of 150 million or so, will have access to a government option health care system. How is that a "government takeover?"

The health reform bill will hand 30-40 million new customers over to for-profit, "free market" insurance monopolies. How, exactly, is that a "government takeover?"

    And this….

"a real liberal who REALLY knows how to be rude, cuss and say anti american slogans to your readership."

…..is disheartening. I have been trying really, really hard to be, you know, "rude, cuss and say anti-American slogans"….but, sigh, I, apparently, have fallen short.

  • larry d.

Since Master's ascension last winter, a pretty good percentage of your posts center on your hatred of free speech and dissenting voices, Reverend. There's really no good way to respond, but I want you to know you've still got an audience so I simply throw out an "I hear you" now and again.

  • http://www.cleveland.com bzzzzp

    The entire premise is flawed.

"Wouldn't the Villagers, mainstream media, be telling us today that the Democratic Party had gone over the far-left edge….that the Democratic Party had now become totally unhinged….that the Democratic Party had now been taken over by dangerous radicals?"

In the past they haven't mentioned it, so thee is no reason to believe they would in the future.

  • Tbomb

I see where the AMA, the American Cancer Society and AARP support the bill.

  • The Reverend

For several years before Obama became president, I was pointing out the narrative crisis we had in America. Conservatives, lovingly termed wingers, believed in one version of a current event…..reality-based observers held a different narrative.

It really all started with the Clinton impeachment….but the 2000 election intensified the narrative distinctions. Then Iraq, Valerie Plame, Jack Abramoff, Katrina and so many other stories added to the confusion. Neither side agreed with the other on what happened. Toss in torture, Dick Cheney's many evils, FOX, and then Sarah Palin's trouble with facts and truth….multiply all that by a TeaBagger exponent….and the U.S. has a big communications mess.

So….when you think I'm "stifling free speech"…what I'm doing is correcting the incorrect narrative wingers swear is the truth. My criticisms of the Village, FOX, Fluffy, and all the rest, is not for the purpose of stifling speech…..just setting the record straight.

To grasp some perspective here…..W. threatened to convict the NY Times for releasing classified information. W. sought to intervene in MSNBC's reporting…..Obama said that FOX wasn't a news organization.
Wingers defend Bush's threats against the NY Times and MSNBC, yet criticize Obama's mild statement of fact about FOX. Two narratives….only one is true.

  • larry d.

Releasing classified information of course can in some cases endanger national security and is in some cases illegal, Reverend. I'm not sure what "intervening" in reporting means, but I suspect it means pointing out errors in a particular story or particular stories, which I think is fine. But telling folks they shouldn't watch particular outlets, targeting dissenting voices, attempting to marginalize large swaths of the American citizenry as delusional, etc., is creepiness.

In short, "correcting the incorrect narrative" is the goal of all authoritarian regimes. It's just what The Machine does.

  • The Reverend

Your comment, larry, is indicative of the very problem I described.

The NY Times story about Bush's illegal wiretapping of Americans, held from print for one full year, had nothing whatsoever to do with "classified information". The only way one can believe such a narrative is to also believe that al-Qaeda didn't already assume America was listening in to all their communications. A very silly assumption.

Again, the Obama White House did NOT tell Americans to stop watching FOX. That is a falsehood.

Stating and restating the empirical facts….provable facts…..has nothing to do with authoritarian regimes. That statement sounds like winger paranoia….or sore-loserdom….to me.

Tbomb…..those endorsements are, I'm sure, because AARP, the AMA, and the Cancer Society are socialist domestic enemies.

  • larry d.

I haven't seen the White House stating or restating any empirical facts, Reverend. What facts?

On the other hand, I have seen them try to smear a news organization and a radio talk show host because the do not portray the administration in a favorable light. It's just what fledgling authoritarian regimes do, and rationalizing it is just what delusional lemmings do.

  • The Reverend

    Now I'm a "delusional lemming."

The White House said that FOX was not basically a news organization, but rather, more like talk radio. That is a fact. Because you refuse to accept that has nothing to do with the veracity of that fact.

Your dismissive…"because they do not portray the administration in a favorable light"……is bullpucky. No one is talking about portraying Obama in a good light here……we're talking about open promotion and participation in anti-Obama events. That's what talk radio does. We're talking about openly lying repeatedly in order to portray Obama in a poor light. And Limbaugh….Christ, what can you say about a a person, who, had he been huckstering during the Founder's time, would have been hung awhile ago?

Obama is disappointing on many fronts, just not in the way conservatives perceive him as being disappointing.

Delusional would fit the person who, despite all the evidence,……MediaMatters has tons for all to see…….still insists that FOX "news" is something other than an opinion/entertainment network. FOX has every right, of course,….and so does Obama.

You want lemmings? Dittoheads are lemmings. BeckerHeads are lemmings.

But a special note on this:…."fledgling authoritarian regime". That's the richest phrase I've seen recently.

Cheney/Bush was an authoritarian regime. No other White House has ever been as authoritarian or lawless. Conservatives still have not come to grips with the treasonous nature of the Bush years. They still have blinders on….and now, outrageously, they point to Obama's stating of the facts,….no threats, no harassment, no warnings….. as evidence of a "flegling authoritarian regime."

It's gotta' be the political dyslexia syndrome.

  • larry d.

    Aptly titled, Reverend.

  • Da King

    Thanks for the chuckle, Rev.

You actually said that people have no answer to what you write. That is hilarious. Here is an example of what you write – "the demented and potentially dangerous alliance, "outed" yesterday in a noontime wingnut-fest with GOP congressional leaders and the TeaBaggers." Here's another example – "In a non-dysfuntional free nation, main national media would, still today, be reporting on the insanity, the crazed hysteria of the current GOP-TeaPartier alliance. In a dysfunctional free nation, like the U.S., such a mindnumbingly, ignorant, and potentially dangerous union of extremists and political leaders is only worthy of microscopic analysis and disdain if that union is made up of Democrats."

You really expect people to take you seriously enough to attempt to respond to ravings like that ? If you do, you're even more delusional than I thought. I hate to break it to you (again), but mostly what you do is call people names. Any 10-year old child is capable of that. Adults don't feel compelled to engage the child in debate.

  • larry d.

It's so bizarre that maybe I can't tell anymore, King, but it seems like the Reverend has actually gotten worse since Master ascended.

  • Da King

Maybe one can only watch Meltdown With Keith Olbermann so many times before one has a meltdown himself. The Rev is rarely even lucid anymore. Latest examples – he contends abortion was pulled from the House health care bill because some Dems don't want women to enjoy sex. Then he wonders why nobody debates the point with him. On my blog, he thinks the Ft. Hood shooter did it because he couldn't find a girlfriend, not due to his radical religious beliefs (even though he was shouting 'Allahu Akhbar' as he killed people). The cognitive dissonance does seem deeper than before.

  • larry d.

He could use a trip to the Wasatch Range and a nice talk with some wholesome young Mormons. That seemed to stabilize him last time, for about two days.

  • Da King

I don't know, larry. Mormons are a pretty conservative bunch, and the word "conservative" seems to be one of many words that drives the Rev to instant illogical raving. I don't even know if a tinfoil hat would work at this point.

    Maybe Thorazene.
