White Males

by The Reverend on November 2, 2009

in 2008 election,Barack Obama

This is an interesting map put up over at Think Progress on Matt Yglesias' blog.

whitemenxh3-1-1

In commentary, Yglesias takes the position that "in general the majority of white men are not progressive."

Is that true, do you think? And if the majority of America's white men are not progressive, why would that be?

Why would only 41% of white male Americans have voted for President Obama? Obama won 53% of the total popular vote.

Why did less than 10% of white males in Alabama and Mississippi vote for America's first black president? 9 out of 10 white male Alabamans and Mississippians voted for McCain.

Open Left sets forward the idea that our history of national voting rights plays a role.

I'm not suggesting any answers here….because I don't know the answers…..I don't.

That's why I'm asking the questions.

Any answers?

  • Da King

Thanks for offering definitive proof that white males are smart. I'm tired of all the bashing.

Why didn't you mention that 96% of blacks voted for Obama ? Why do you suppose that was ?

  • San Diego Joe

@Da King – The real question was what were the other 4% of blacks thinking when they voted for McCain!

The OPEN LEFTsuggests that illegals be allowed to vote. Hell why stop there. It is the global era and a decision made by one country can affect people in other countries. Our foregn policy, foreign aid decisions, and refusal to automatically comply with the wishes of the UN certainly affects the citizens of the world, if only we could include all the people of the world in our electoral system. Unfortunately it is just not possible to create an electoral system that could accomodate such a result.
Dont despair we are quietly working towards that goal. In a recent decision by Obama's Justice Department they overturned the result of the voters approval to eliminate the R. and D. beside the candidates name in local elections. This decision
I am sure was embraced by both parties because it strengthens the monopoly of the two party system.
The various reasons for the decision were absurd and contradicatory they should have just stated they ruled the way they did "because we can"
Of all the amazing statements made to justify the decision one embodied the "democracy" of the left. "The determination of who is a 'candidate of choice'
for any given group of voters is based on an analysis of the electoral behaviour of those voters within a particular jurisdiction". Although there was no definition of voter they made it very clear that it went beyond those that actually voted or those that were registered but did not vote. Although the vote to hold nonpartisan elections was passed overwhelmingly by blacks and whites our government overturned the vote. The message here is that the government knows what the people want. That being the case it is not a stretch for the government to decide the will of the people and in the name of voter analysis decide what is the true will of the people and create a true democracy of the people.

96% of blacks voting for Obama can probably be attributed to the fact that Obama was the very first black presidential candidate. If that's racism on the part of those 96%, then, I think, so be it. If the racial roles had been reversed, and Obama was the country's first white presidential candidate, his race would have been part of my consideration, as a white man, in voting for him.

So your answer, King, to why only 41% of white males voted for Obama is that white males are smarter than the rest of the electorate, you know, in general? So the 50-something percent of white women who voted for Obama are not wuite as smart, on average, as white males? Is that it?

angry…you raise a interesting case. I must admit, I don't know about that case yet. I'll try to get back with you with some kind of response.

I guess the real question is: do we need political parties at all?

  • Straight Outta Pripyat

To answer SanDiego Joe. McCain reminded them of "Cocaine".

Finally someone that gets it. The answer to that would be a resounding yes! We built this country to where it is right now, right? (Or should I say to where it was.)The most powerful, richest, compassionate, charitable country in the world. Our poor live better our middle class live better our rich live better than anyone else in the world. The minorities and women are the ones that don't appreciate what we white males have done. They are now tearing down what we have made because they feel they deserve it, like a poorly picked money grubbing spouse. We have set the standard for the world through hard work, seeing a dream and achieving it. The only thing holding us back is the govt that wants to give all of our hard earned treasures away to folks that don't deserve it. And now with people like Dr Phil and Oprah our white males are becoming weak, child like shells that should exchange private parts with their wives. Minorities and women Should just relax and shut up and do as they are told and things would be so much better. Just go to your sissy little think groups, ponder your problems and let white guys do what we do best, make money and build things.

Is that what kind of response you were hoping for Rev?….wink

  • The Reverend

average…I appreciate and respect your honesty.

  • Da King

angryc says, "if only we could include all the people of the world in our electoral system"

OMG, angryc, I think you've just come up with the great new liberal idea for the 21st century.

Please don't repeat this idea ever again :)

  • Da King

Rev, Obama wasn't the first black presidential candidate. And thanks for saying you consider race when voting. That makes you a racist, but I've known that for awhile now.

joe, Rev thinks you were serious, lol.

  • The Reverend

average laid down some pure Pat Buchanan. Buchanan believes everything that average wrote is true. Many who travel the berm on the right side of the road, some wearing Tea Party teeshirts, believe what average wrote is true. Every word.

  • The Reverend

    On the racist accusation….

Are you telling me that if whites had never elected a president, and finally a superbly qualified white candidate ran for the presidency….that you wouldn't take the fact that the candidate would be the first white president into consideration? Not at all? I'm looking for honesty here.

  • averagejoe5

I know King. Just thought I would strike up some controversy, I thought that was what the Rev wanted. I guess I will never be able to run for office as this would surely be used against me. LOL
