How FOX Distorts

by The Reverend on November 1, 2009

in media

It says something about a free nation when truth can only be told using comedy as a frame. Reminds me of how blacks were first introduced into television. While no major, mainstream, corporate-whore media members examined the 800 pound gorilla question in the room…."Is FOX a news organization?"…..Jon Stewart quickly went to work answering that, apparently, taboo question….

See how it's done? The, self-admitted, "non-news" players on FOX create the "stories" that the "real-news" FOX players, then, report on.

Hey, at least FOX keeps everything in house.

The Villagers simply had no time to examine whether one of their fellow KneePadded members was really only an opinion outlet and not a news organization….you know, like the White House suggested. Oh, no…..the "story" quickly became how stupid and wrongheaded Obama was for attacking FOX. Overnight, Obama became Nixon…because, I suppose, Villagers are "liberal."

Digby reflects…

"The Right Wing Noise Machine of the past 20 years has always laundered its dirt through foreign papers and Drudge, which would then filter into the mainstream press. But in the fast paced internet era they can't waste the time, so they simply launder it through Beck, to the Fox "news" people, then into the mainstream press. It's a much more efficient operation.

I think Obama was smart to pick the fight. It at least raises questions that will force the mainstream press to take a breath before they jump in. It won't stop them entirely, of course, but it might slow them down a little bit. This is probably the best we can hope for."

Yep.

UPDATE: Here's a Republican senator agreeing with Stewart and Digby…

"We don't need The Washington Post to cover things anymore," said staunch conservative Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.). "Something can get on a conservative blog, then on Fox News, then it's everywhere."

UPDATE 2: Just for fun…

UPDATE 3:

Ultra-conservative, Murdoch-owned, Wall Street Journal….Friday on the Obama stimulus…..

Headline: STIMULUS FUELED MUCH of EXPANSION

Think Wall Street Journal writers were drinking kool-aid at their corporate Halloween bash?

What?!? You are coming out against distortion?

Is this some kind of November Fools Day joke?

The Reverend November 2, 2009 at 8:11 am

Yes….and, no.

Da King November 2, 2009 at 11:24 am

Yes, but bzzzzp, the joke is pretty funny, though I don't think the Reverend gets it.

The Rev cited Jon Stewart as proof that Fox isn't a news organization. Then Digby.

I'm practically falling out of my chair laughing.

Self-awareness isn't the Rev's strong suit.

The Term "News Organization", as used by the Reverand, is meaningless. Thus, if Fox is not a news organization, then Comedy Central is.

From the same people who think Stephen Colbert is really a conservative. I don't think your panel of regulars understand what Stewart is doing. And he spares no quarter to Democrats when they deserve it.

The Reverend November 2, 2009 at 6:21 pm

In case folks aren't keeping score at home….Stewart and his team are freaking brilliant, and like jimmie said, he and Colbert bash both sides of the aisle and the Villagers equally. And I'll tell you what about Digby……just as I was correct a few years ago about Glen Greenwald, now someone who must be taken seriously by people with brains….so too Digby. She's one of the best and she never bullsh*ts around.

Furthermore, Stewart played FOX clips. Those FOX clips proved FOX is not a news organization. Digby had described the step by step way in which propaganda stories move from a FOX propagandist to an alleged FOX news anchor. Stewart provided the video proof.

Quid…why would my use of "news organization" be meaningless. A news organization would be an entity that was, on average, not openly partisan. FOX is openly partisan, and they're proud of it…that's all fine, but no one should mistake FOX's conservative propaganda with news that is to be trusted…relied on for accuracy.

There can be tons of left slanted media.

NY Slimes
CBS
NBC (aka NBS)
CNBC
MSNBC (daily kos channel)
ABC (aka ABS)
Washingtoncompost (Or is it washingtonpost.com?)
Cleveland Pain Feeler
Beacon
AP

But let there be one that does not spew the Democratic line, and only then will you demand journalistic standards? This does not pass the smell test.

Plus, the fact that your blog is like viewing the world through a fun-house mirror.

Slanted is cool, as long as it is your slant.

Stewart's piece on Acorn was cool. But there still needs to be a whole lot more of them before we can pretend that they attack both sides equally.

Quidpro November 2, 2009 at 9:13 pm

"A news organization would be an entity that was, on average, not openly partisan."

Apparently the Reverand still belives in the Myth of Objective Media (MOM). MOM, of course does not exist. Never has. Or maybe the Reverand prefers his partisan media not to be open about it. It is only the "openly partisan" such as MSNBC and Fox and CNN that do not qualify. That would leave only the so-called MSM, which pretend to be non-partisan. But the Reverand has claimed that the MSM are just corporate shills. Oh well!! At least we have some media in this country, as understood by the Reverand.

Tbomb November 2, 2009 at 10:20 pm

Golly gee, I just loves to get that there straight talk from Fox!

Da King November 4, 2009 at 9:58 am

Rev says, "Stewart played FOX clips. Those FOX clips proved FOX is not a news organization."

Now I know why you think Jon Stewart is brilliant. It's because you aren't. The notion that a few clips from Fox (excluding literally thousands of Fox news segments) means that Fox isn't a news organization is asinine. I have Fox on in the background right now and they are talking about who won yesterday's elections. According to the Rev, that must NOT be news.

Keep your comedy gold coming, my friend, even if it is unintentional. I always need a good laugh.

If some republican gazillionaire decided to create an organization that would monitor lefty news 24-7 then compile all the inaccuracies, I wonder how much material the organization could produce?

Fortunately for MSNBC, CNN and MSM, reps aren't quite as interested in squelching free speech.
