Medina Resident Writes Hate-Letter

by The Reverend on September 8, 2009

in Barack Obama, fearmongering, intolerance, moral values

hypnobama_bb599

I don't often take on one of the letters-to-the-editor appearing in the daily Beacon Journal. But, today, I'm going to….

Ms. Adrienne Appleby-Bures of MEDINA writes in explaining how she opposes President Barack Obama's planned talk to schoolchildren today. Medina School leaders have decided to censor the President's talk to make sure it's "safe" to show children. Medina citizens, like Appleby-Bures, are the reason why Medina district scool leaders are censoring the President today.

The Medina resident begins…

"Schools were to prepare students for President Obama's address today. I read the teacher-preparation materials, and I do not want my children to be part of this education. I informed their schools. I disagree with the socialist agenda embraced by our current administration.

To me, this includes the green movement, global warming, a positive portrayal of wealth redistribution, and the apparent belief that protections for individual liberties in the Constitution can be ignored."

I realize it does absolutely no good to point out that President Obama kept those private banksters private and didn't take them over, that his health care plan does not even mention a single payer socialist program and that even a public option plan is being called non-essential by the White House. Taxes have actually been lowered under Obama. Facts do not matter to folks like Ms. Appleby-Bures, her mind is made up.

"The following is from the teacher-preparation notes: Why is it important that we listen to the president and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of Congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?

My children are being taught that elected officials will represent them. They will not be taught to "listen" to those individuals, as if being elected gives a right to indoctrinate others in social and governmental re-engineering campaigns."

Those paragraphs channel Glenn Beck and the Limbaugh-like buffoons who make millions selling hate. The words "indoctrinate" and "governmental re-engineering campaigns" are part of Beck's and Limbaugh's daily scripts. Ms. Appleby-Bures is agreeing with the buffoons…..Obama is remarkably similar, these conservative buffoons say, to Adolph Hitler.

With this hateful mindset…umm…in mind, Appleby-Bures rants that she doesn't want her children involved in "social re-engineering" or government "indoctrination" efforts.

If you type the words, "social re-engineering by Obama" into the Google, you'll find a half a million entries. Anti-democratic conservatives, having lost the last two elections…and badly….can only work to smear and villify Democrats and Obama, compare them with Hitler, Stalin or Mao, or, you know, someone really, really scary. That's the purpose of Appleby-Bures hate letter. To spread fear, ugliness, and hatred. Appleby-Bures' letter is part of an orchestrated effort to spread fact-free and hateful propaganda about a Democratic president. Think…town hall buster-uppers…..letter-to-the-editor style.

The extremist Appleby-Bures, mercifully, finishes up….

"If there is a push for student participation in a national service day on Sept. 11, I will protest. My children participate in church, Scouts and charity work my family deems valuable. Sept. 11 should always be a day of reflection and remembrance.

If the president wants a day for volunteer service, I respectfully suggest he, his friends and family volunteer time on what is the most progressive and socialist holiday, Labor Day. I suggest he focus his own efforts on moving Tax Freedom Day back into the first quarter."

Yes, this letter-writer is unhinged from reality, and full of despicable hatred towards Democrats and President Obama. She is free in America, of course, to be unhinged from reality.

Adrienne Appleby-Bures despises even the thought of Obama asking students to participate in a national day of service. Yes, even mentioning service to one's country is more than the extreme right in America today can tolerate.

But Bures can't let it go at that. She can't be satisfied with just spreading her hate-bile and propaganda, you know, like Beck and Limbaugh do each day. She has to go on to insult American workers by mocking Labor Day, calling it "the most socialist holiday".

Let me be clear here….people like Ms. Appleby-Bures are not worthy to wipe the ass of those who fought and died for the rights of workers in America. Without labor unions our country today would look similar to any ordinary Latin American hellhole…..and with the killing off of the unions by conservative haters of workers, like Appleby-Bures, how long will it be before we are nothing but a third world country?

Be scared of this socialist Democratic President who wants to "indoctrinate" kids to work hard and stay in school to strengthen America. Be scared of a president who encourages service to the country, that's "social re-engineering." And if that president calls for a national day of service, tell him he and his communist buddies already have a "socialist holiday", Labor Day.

Ms. Adrienne Appleby-Bures……and the Medina horse she road in on.

UPDATE: Go here to see why the Obama-is-indoctrinating-our-kids screeching is simply about unhinged Obama-hate…and nothing more.

UPDATE II: Here's Obama's Mao speech to the kids today.

Here's the Hitleresque clincher….

" …. none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed."

Rev., you give Ms. Adrienne Appleby-Bures of MEDINA way too much of your time and energy by writing about her. She is obviously a nut job and should be treated as such. These extremists (right as well as left) should be trivialized. it is her choice if she doesn't want her child to hear Obama, that is what life is about -choices. What I find most ironic about all this is 1) she is a Ms. and 2) the hyphenated last name. Both things I would normally generalize as being more liberal. I guess I have to rethink my generalizations, or maybe not, why change now?

bzzzzp September 8, 2009 at 11:28 am

There is not one ounce of hate in that letter, you are just being dishonest.

It does show one of the profound differences between liberals and conservatives. Conservatives believe that politicians are elected to represent them. Liberals believe that politicians are elected to be 'Super Parents' to the electorate.

alchemist September 8, 2009 at 11:43 am

One thought I have had throughout this latest rant by the Right is whether any of those parents have said this to their children "

…. none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed."

Lots of children out there have no one who will tell them what Obama plans to tell them let alone demonstrate it for them.

alchemist September 8, 2009 at 11:59 am

Google her — she's everywhere and on Facebook she lists Glenn Beck as a person she is a fan of. Figures.

The Reverend September 8, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Thank you alchemist.

The letter by the Medina lady, and why I wrote about her today, is as a result of an organized effort by Beckians to spread more hate and bile over Obama. It has nothing, whatsoever, to do with the normal and accepted practice of presidents routinely speaking directly to school children.

The maniacs are raising the ante in a dangerous game for America.

Special note to bzzzp…..is that why both Bushes and Reagan spoke directly to school children? Because conservative GOP'ers wanted a "Super Parent?"

Tom B September 8, 2009 at 1:15 pm

It is a sad statement of where we are today as a nation. The address encourages children to study, pursue life goals and see the value of education. It isn't a political event. It's merely the President reiterating the core values that help develop youth and an educated society.

It's obvious that the right wing playbook wants to vilify the President before he even speaks. The goal is to make an major event out of a non-event and create chatter that has the appearance of public discourse. These techniques that we re seeing increase lately do not help the conservative cause. It only serves to make them appear more desperate and uninformed. The letter deserves no attention. It is truly the ranting of person angry at the wrong person with the increasing unhappiness with the right wing agenda.

The Reverend September 8, 2009 at 1:26 pm

I mostly agree Tom.

"These techniques that we re seeing increase lately do not help the conservative cause. It only serves to make them appear more desperate and uninformed. The letter deserves no attention."

I'm not so sure about that. Yes, it's only one letter. But, Obama's health care reform agenda has taken a hit because of haters just like the Medina woman. The media picks up the crazies' "death panels" or "death books" and spreads those memes like wildfire. Such a commotion is created that uninformed Americans begin to fear, polls are taken, health care gets defeated.

My biggest concern is not so much that conservatives will make a comeback at the polls come next election…..although the crazies' efforts are helping that cause too…..it's the inevitable rightwing violence that disturbs me.

larry d. September 8, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Obama has no one to blame but himself if he has failed to earn a modicum of trust from Americans of all stripes. To call the woman's letter 'hateful' and pointedly repeat her name several times on a blog that is otherwise anonymous is a cowardly disgrace, as well.

angry conserv September 8, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Once again Rev, you have brightened my day with your unique humor. I am not sure which is more amusing this person's third rate attempt at hate speech compared to your polished rants of fancy and hate or the line "Yes this lady is
unhinged from reality and full of despicable hatred towards Democrats and Pres. Obama……". Please subsititute the words Republican and Pres. Bush and revel in the irony of your statement.

alchemist September 8, 2009 at 1:49 pm

larry d. Cowardly!! Disgrace!! She is the one who chose to write her letter and post it with her name for all to see. I would expect most everyone who reads these blogs also reads the letters to the editor although I expect the reverse is not true.

Da King September 8, 2009 at 2:07 pm

That Obama picture is so hypnotic. I feel disoriented. Dizzy. I, I, I think I GET it now………Yes…………We………….CAN !?!?!?! Where do I go register for Obama's civilian army ?????

Rev, please stop saying Obama is being censored. That's not true. Showing his speech to the school kids is VOLUNTARY. It was never required.

That also wasn't a "hate letter" from the Medina woman. She just expressed her viewpoint, for better or for worse. Get a grip. If you want to read hate letters, read some of your own posts about conservatives.

Da King September 8, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Most conservatives are perfectly fine with Obama speaking to school kids, btw, as am I. Bush did it. Reagan did it. Nothing wrong with it at all.

To all those who are implying that Glenn Beck is behind the resistance to Obama's school speech………….you're lying. Beck said he didn't have any problem with it.

Andrea September 8, 2009 at 3:31 pm

OMG Obama telling kids to study hard ….Bush reading my Pet Goat upside down and then being told we were attacked and to continue reading it NOW that was scary ….Not to mention none of these people are the least bit concerned about the military coming to school?

averagejoe5 September 8, 2009 at 5:25 pm

Because they all Lie King. Bush didn't speak to all of the kids. The union wouldn't allow it remember Rev. They said it may not be a good idea.

The sad thing is why didn't Obama just show it to us before hand. Maybe because this wasn't actually the first draft of his talk? Our country no longer trusts our govt. To much is going on to hurt the future of America and it's people. People are seeing our representatives as the robbers and theives they really are.

larry d. September 8, 2009 at 6:14 pm

So what if her name was on a letter to the editor, alchemist? Why is it needed here? The Reverend repeated it enough that it became an invitation for lemmings to "google" her and start the demonization process the left has become known for. All because she criticized the president in a letter to the editor.

It is a cowardly disgrace.

Fred September 8, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Take me to your leader………..Take me to your leader……………Take me to your leader……………..Take me to your leader………………..

Fred September 8, 2009 at 8:41 pm

Da King: I`m so dizzy my head is spinnin`, I`m so dizzy my heart is………………………..

Da King September 9, 2009 at 4:19 am

Can't name that tune, Fred. All I can think of is Tommy Roe.

Da King September 9, 2009 at 4:22 am

"People are seeing our representatives as the robbers and thieves they really are."

I hope so, joe. That's the main reason I keep writing my blog. The worst corporate robber barons don't hold a candle to Washington D.C. Unless we change that, we're sunk.

The Irreverend September 9, 2009 at 7:59 am

"If you type the words, "social re-engineering by Obama" into the Google, you'll find a half a million entries. Anti-democratic conservatives, having lost the last two elections…and badly….can only work to smear and villify Democrats and Obama, compare them with Hitler, Stalin or Mao, or, you know, someone really, really scary."

Ummm…. thats the way search engines work, idiot. If you type anything more than 2-3 keywords into Google you are guaranteed to get a lot of hits. Having Obama's name in the search will bring back every article, blog, or news item with his name in it.

The proper way to do that search is to enclose all the words in quotes. Interestingly, when you search for "social re-engineering by Obama" properly, only 1 hit is found… this stupid blog.

The Reverend September 9, 2009 at 8:08 am

When a person attaches his/her name to a letter to the editor….any reader can Google the name of the person who wrote it. So, that being the case, Ms Appleby-Bures started her own demonization process…herself.

On re-reading my post, I did use the woman's name quite a bit….but it had nothing to do with demonizing her. I thought her name was interesting……interesting for being such a bitterly hateful woman.

Ms. Hyphenated Name, a fan of nimrod, Glenn Beck, decided to get her hate freak on in a bitter and vile letter to her local newspaper…..ending it with calling Labor Day a socialist holiday. The anonymous blog writer, The Reverend, decided to deconstruct that hateful letter and demonstrate how unhinged and dishonest it was…..and while I was deconstructing it, I mentioned the writer's hyphenated name quite often. So what?

The Reverend September 9, 2009 at 8:13 am

And Ir…..I am quite aware how search engines work. The point wasn't the half million number, as such, it was the fact that there is a concerted effort out there on the crazed-right attempting to demonize Obama as a "social re-engineer."

Any argument about that fact?

larry d. September 9, 2009 at 9:22 am

She practiced her right to free speech, Reverend. You started the demonization process in a hate-filled post and now you're adding sexism to the mix. It is a cowardly disgrace.

The Reverend September 9, 2009 at 10:02 am

She practiced free speech……and I practiced free speech. The end.

averagejoe5 September 9, 2009 at 11:09 am

Rev, have you ever listened to a Beck show?

The Reverend September 9, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Yep. Several times.

larry d. September 9, 2009 at 7:13 pm

I'm not arguing that cowardly disgrace talk isn't protected, Reverend. I'm just saying it's cowardly and disgraceful.

Da King September 10, 2009 at 8:45 am

I'm still trying to see any hate in that Median woman's letter, Rev. I sure don't see it. Maybe you are just categorizing any speech that opposes Obama as hate. That IS a disgrace.

The Reverend September 10, 2009 at 6:22 pm

You don't think that mockingly calling Labor Day a socialist holiday wasn't spiced with some hate?

I wonder why conservatives hate American workers like they do.

larry d. September 10, 2009 at 6:50 pm

cowardly

disgrace

Da King September 16, 2009 at 3:44 pm

I wonder why you make stuff up like you do. Categorizing anything you disagree with as hate is the actual problem here, not the opinion of one woman from Medina, whether she's wrong or right.
