Dangerous National Threat

Much has been said about the young black man outside of an Arizona health care reform town hall. The one who had an AR-15 semi-automatic assault weapon strapped to his back.

Some rather imaginative conservatives have suggested that the assault weapon toter was an Obama plant. The man was black and Obama is black, so, you know, blacks stick together, I guess. See….according to this conspiracy theory…..this black Obama plant was strategically placed so that the media would cover what appeared to be a gun nut willing to endanger a town hall crowd by carrying a weapon that could easily slaughter hundreds of people, not to mention the toter's proximity, and threat, to the President.

In this conspiracy theory, a black Obama plant openly carrying a loaded assault weapon at a crowded political function, a story quickly memed around the country by "liberal" corporate media, was all for the purpose of making Republican opponents of health care reform appear to be insane.

Other conservatives, thankfully, recognized the foolishness, the potential danger, of so many people carrying loaded weapons to a heated political gathering, and in particular, a gathering which featured the POTUS.

The black man who carried the assault weapon was a plant alright. A plant straight out of the Tim McVeigh school of peacemaking. A plant strategically placed in a town hall crowd for the specific purpose of being interviewed by yet another extremist. An extremist who actually has, you know, palled around with terrorists.

Notice the light-heartedness, the funnies shared by these advocates for open assault weapon carrying at crowded political gatherings in America where the President is appearing…

The kicker about this story is the fact that this was a staged event to advance the violent-minded doctrine of armed overthrow of a "tyrannical" government. And the interviewer, who staged the whole thing and who was also armed, has a history of siding with domestic terrorists. If you think I'm just going all Palin on ya'….go read this.

In another video interview with the assault weapon toter, a man only known as Chris, explains he is totally against health care and wants to remind people that we must resist and fight back against the majority imposing it's will on the minority. Though elected Republicans don't strap on AR-15's (at least not yet), they do agree wholeheartedly with Chris' sentiment. Responsible stuff like this….

"We will forcefully resist people imposing their will on us through the strength of the majority with a vote."

"Just because you sic the government on people doesn't make it morally OK to steal money from people. Taxation is theft."

"Chris" says he is "absolutely, totally against" health care reform, saying such a plan would amount to "stealing it from people."

He also said more people should carry guns openly in states where it's legal.

"People need to get out there and do it more," he said.

These gun toters, though not representative of the entire conservative movement in America, alarmingly, do indeed represent the current strategic philosophy of the conservative movement and the Republican Party. American conservatives only accept majority rule when the GOP is in the majority, and corporate whore media agrees with that thinking,…..once again, if you think I'm kidding, read the Beacon's opinion page today.

Makes what I wrote on January 28th of this year seem, I don't know,…..prophetic….

Obama won the election….Democrats increased their majorities in the Congress….so minority Republicans should get their way on all new policy decisions.

Chris, the assault weapon toter, agrees. And if people like Chris, or Mitch McConnell, or John Boehner…don't get their way…..well then, there's always the assault weapon work of "watering the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants."

Violent authoritarism is a serious threat to America. The reason we most often see it during Democratic majorities or Democratic presidencies is because when Republicans are in control, they channel that violent authoritarianism through international acts of aggression, torture, wars of choice, etc. During GOP majorities, these violent authoritarians know that their "rights" to own assault weapons, weapons designed only to kill large numbers of humans, will be fully protected.

Our nation, though much calmer than back in the 60's, is going through a very challenging time. If our current differences are settled without bloodshed and violence this time around, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

That clip is BEAUTIFUL! Democrats need to take a much more forceful stance against these wingnuts. To hell to political correctness. It would be nice to see Republicans do the same. The GOP have valid concerns, not this silliness that seems to be a central part of their argument, i.e. Obama being a Muslim, not a U.S. citizen, being a Nazi, being a socialist, won`t defend America, being a racist……………..

    Barney Frank's home planet…..Uranus.

  • The Reverend

Andrea…..the Fox nuts thought Barney was being way too rude.

Personally, I thought Barney was being kind in his response to the woman who sees Nazis everywhere.

  • averagejoe5

Personally, for as messed up as he and Dodd have gotten this country I don't see how he can show his face in public.

  • The Reverend

Who has been in the majority for the last number of years?

  • Da King

    Rev,
I feel the same way you do about these people carrying guns to Presidential events. I think I see now why that guy with the AR-15 did it. He did it to get attention, because the last guy who did it got media attention. He did it to get his message heard, and it worked. A dangerous precedent that will only encourage more people to do the same.

Things have come full circle since the 60's and 70's. Back then, it was leftist organizations committing all sorts of violent acts. Now, right wingers are protesting, but not committing violent acts so far. I certainly hope it stays that way.

That being said, did you really expect that the majority of people in this country would go quietly into that good night as the government expands by leaps and bounds into all sorts of new areas ? Most people instinctively know that government intrusion is a direct threat. Our country was founded upon that idea, and we aren't going to forget about it just because Obama is good with a teleprompter.

I wrote a post the other day about how successful small businesses could soon be paying 50% in taxes or higher, and how that will hurt job creation and therefore hurt people. When the government taxes at that level, it is theft, just as the Social Security scam is theft. I only wonder how people put up with it this long. With our economy finally coming apart at the seams, as the bills come due for nearly a century of almost non-stop irresponsible big government policy, people are finally realizing they've been had. Then Obama came into office and immediately became the biggest of all the big spenders who came before him. The backlash is inevitable.

  • The Reverend

I hear ya'…but I still ain't buying that government spending is the reason for the anger and the gun brandishing. That does not compute.

You say that most people know that government intrusion is a direct threat, and I assume you're speaking of Obama's health care proposals. The problem is……when governemnt was radically intruding during Bush, I didn't see any angry mobs full of conservatives protesting. Same with Bush's doubling of the debt….no protests about radical government spending.

The backlash, as you call it, is over a Democratic president and a Democratic Congress going about doing the will of the majority of Americans. Remember, conservatives are now in the minority, Republicans are in the minority….and that's what is a direct threat.

  • Da King

Lots of people protested Bush, Rev. I don't know how you can say they didn't.

But I don't think the people really started to wake up until the recession hit full force, and that was nearly at the end of Bush's term. Then the people were dumbfounded by the size of TARP. That was a game changer, with all the big boys being bailed out as the little people suffered. But people still had hope somehow that Obama would be different. Then they quickly found out he isn't different at all. He's just more of the same, only this time on steroids, with the debt rolling up faster than ever, with the government spending faster than ever, with the government intruding more than ever, and with taxes soon to be rising faster than ever. Enough is enough. The only ones who surprise me at this point are the ones who aren't protesting. Those are the ones with the stars in their eyes.

And I know this will be hard for you to believe, Rev, but Obama isn't doing the will of the people. Most of the people are against his policies. His instrusions, in only six months in office, mind you number — $787 billion waste of a stimulus, $500 billion permanent increase in government spending, $9 trillion 10-year projected deficit, government health care, government buying auto companies, a coming huge energy tax. Lots more I could add, but those are the biggies. Plus, Obama has broken his campaign promises at a record pace, more than any politician I can ever remember and he can't say five sentences without being dishonest.

You don't have to believe any of what I say, of course, but….I've been to the protests. I know what they are about. I'm going to another one next month.

  • The Reverend

I agree that Obama has been less than forceful on the issues he was elected on.

But we disagree on who created the terrible financial situation Obama inherited. If Obama had not acted when he did, we could easily have seen 3-4 million more unemployed.

Conservative corporate control of America for the last 30 years all blew up in the last stages of the Bush administration. The criminality and devious greed was a sickening sight. Conservatives were perfectly satisfied with that status quo as long as we had a GOP president. Now, the grown-ups are back in charge, trying to fix the mess, and lo and behold, conservatives don't want it fixed….they want even more of the same.

  • Da King

Obama's stimulus package had a minimal impact on unemployment, even by Obama's own measure.

And Obama isn't fixing the mess. He's making the mess bigger, a lot bigger. As is, America is unsustainable. Name one thing that Obama has done to reverse that. I can name half a dozen of his policies that are making the problem worse.
