The Right To Intimidate With Guns

by The Reverend on August 18, 2009

guns at townhalls #1

From the AP….

About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Monday – the latest incident in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president.

These Timothy McVeigh wannabes are kind of like vampires. Vampires only come out after dark, you know, according to the movies and all…..and military-style rifle owners only come out in public when America has a Democratic president. It's the damnest thing.

The people wearing firearms at townhall gatherings, the radicals bearing semi-automatic assault weapons outside locations where President Obama is appearing, need to be rounded up and locked away. That's what Bush and Cheney would have done. Is there any doubt about that?

The criminal party, being as lawless as they are, believed that the only way to deal with political opponents was through authoritarian means. Bumper stickers and tee-shirts were where the Bushies drew the line on threats. And that was AFTER the Republican goon squads had filtered, screened and thugged-out any potential Democrat from their public appearances.

If anyone toting an assault weapon had even been rumored to be within miles of Mr. Bush, they would be in Guantanomo today. So, what's happening today over health care reform, for Christ's sake, has no equivalency when Republicans are in power.

What we are witnessing is a dangerous game of taunting Obama's presidency. These, you know, real bad asses, are daring Obama's Secret Service to confiscate their weapons or take them into custody for questioning. Double-dog daring them. Should the Secret Service do so….then ClusterFox and their f*cked-up Friends, "I need an oxycontin" Rush, and representatives of the radical and dangerous NRA will be seen plastered over every teevee show and newspaper article shrieking…."See? I told you they wanted to take away our guns."

That's the primary motivation for wingnuts bringing guns to Democratic presidential events. It's all a game of "gotcha-chicken" being played by members of the criminal political party oh-so-worked-up because Americans overhwlemingly voted their criminal asses out of office last November.

Secondarily comes the intimidation factor. If regular, law abiding, non-radical Americans had thought about attending a townhall where health care reform information from their representative would be shared…..they'll think twice about attending if there is a good chance there will be armed thugs present. Who would blame them for staying home?

That's how the folks who are cerebrally-challenged always act. Conservatives have no new ideas and their old ideas were last seen going down in flames during Bush/Cheney. Just as the last administration only knew bellicosity and knee-jerk warmongering in crisis situations that they either didn't fully understand or didn't care to understand,….so too the cerebrally-challenged semi-automatic carriers outside townhall meetings.

These potentially dangerous radicals have no answers to our national crisis in health care, just as the Republican Party has no solutions to offer. But they have guns. And if they bring guns to these events, at least they think they can prevent those who aren't cerebrally-challenged from coming up with solutions.

The NRA cultsters, the Tim McVeigh wannabes, the smart-ass "chicken-gotcha" players carrying assault weapons to democratic events….are the grown-up equivalents to that oversized bully in elementary school. You remember that kid. He was the one who was always bigger than the other kids in the class. Although he was dumber than a big box of rocks, he would, literally, throw his size around as a constant threat to anyone who didn't let him have his way.
Even though the big kid was held back, because his mental capabilites didn't match his supersized-self, he still was on the playground at recess acting all intimidating if anyone even looked at him the wrong way.

That's all that's left of the Party of Lincoln. A pitiful mess of box-of-rockers whose answer to all challenges they aren't equipped to understand….is intimidating thuggery.

It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt…..and like with all authoritarian-minded numbskulls whose first response is always violence, they'll point the finger at the victim(s), and say it's all their fault for not giving them everything they wanted.

How do you know these latest ones aren't from the Dem side Rev? The Secret Service CAN take those guns away. In fact probably 99.9% of the reps in that crowd want them to take those guns away. It may be Dems posing as Reps to secure their position on gun control.

You better hope it isn't all that is left because they are taking over again in the next round of elections. Many Americans would rather have a bunch of home grown red neck Americans with guns than a communist party with death squads and euthanasian policies that promised the world and are delivering a pizza. Union workers are seeing their leaders for the true people they are. There will be a revolt against them also especially as the main population of union employees age and retire.

Steve August 18, 2009 at 11:39 am

Something just doesn't smell right, over the years I've worked with a wide variety of politicians, ie. Quayle, Gore, Mosely-Braun, Leach and my experience is this gun toting thing isn't tolerated. I hope it is just a game of "gotcha-chicken" and not Nixon style 1972 politics ,"GAYS for McGovern"comes to mind.

Da King August 18, 2009 at 1:30 pm

I agree with Steve. Why is this gun-carrying being tolerated ? This is nuts.

But Rev, you better do some more checking into who these people are. I think the guy you pictured with the AR-15 is pro-Obama. He might be the one who was carrying the 'Reform Now' sign.

Aaron August 18, 2009 at 3:03 pm

During the Clinton era, they wouldn't only take away guns, Secret Service snipers were posted around areas the president would be. Remember his visit to EJ Thomas not all that long ago? How all the windows in the area had to be closed, and they were nervous about the polymer science building?

I stand behind what I said before – either the secret service hates Obama, or these people are their with Obama's full knowledge and consent.

New Franklin August 18, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Really? It's dems posing as gun toting repugs? What this is, is intimadation by a group of people bereft of any ideas of their own.(No, the status quo is not an idea.) And let's call a spade a spade. The only thing these people know, is that they are against any policy this black president proposes.

averagejoe5 August 18, 2009 at 3:29 pm

These are Lib Photo-ops. Done by libs, made for lib lemmings. They have to create a fear tactic. There is no way in hell the Secret Service would allow this. There aren't even laws that protect them.
The Reps are going to use the death-panel strategy next election. Dems need something more fearful, like Reps are starting an armed revolution. You can read it in the Marxist text book the libs follow. Maybe it will be an opportunity for the Obama militia to use fire power against Americans. Clinton did that in Waco remember. Killing innocents then burning the evidence. When republicans see this they should just dispurse or citizens arrest the dumbass with the gun.

averagejoe5 August 18, 2009 at 3:36 pm

That's Bullsh*t NF. Let's make it an issue of race, you can't make it a political issue because your party is wrong in the way they are approaching this whole healthcare thing. So they must hate him because he is black. How f'ing stupid and Rev as much as I like reading and participating, you are wrong for writing this racial inspired BS. This is all a big lie.
This is part of the plan. Read about the Bougoiuse and the Prolitarians. Right from the communist handbook. The question, are you gonna fall for it?

New Franklin August 18, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Fear is the repugs 'stratergery', not ours. Remember the W ad w/ the wolves coming out of the woods. The bogus 'death panels'-" They're gonna kill your grandma, and put my Trip to sleep!" What this debate should be about is- How do we figure out a way to provide a basic service- Health Care- that doesn't drain 10% of the GNP, and growing.

The Reverend August 18, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Here's the sad state of affairs we're in….

53% of Americans voted Obama into office. The main domestic policy he ran on to get that mandate was health care reform. Now, because of thuggery (and I'm being kind), the minority….the losing side, gets to have their way instead of the majority.

That's not democracy in any form…..that's the prelude to totalitarianism. And if the current wingnut dominated GOP would happen to regain power, the main totalitarian act will begin in earnest.

That's what the show of guns is all about.

New Franklin August 18, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Calm down joey. You have to admit, a good part of the repug base will never support this president- no matter the issue. So what are you saying?
We shouldn't try to fix the problem of Health Care INSURANCE Companies(not doctors or nurses) siphoning off billions of dollars from the American People.

BTW- Its okay for beck to call the prez- point blank- "a racist"- but it's "f'ing stupid" of me to point out a fact that there is a substantial wing of the republican party that looks down on anyone that is not a white christian. BTW2- that whole Waco thing was borne out of reports from x-members that little girls,(12 years old)were being raped. The feds had to do something. There is no debate that it ended F-upped.

angry conserv August 18, 2009 at 6:33 pm

Rev,
You make 53% of the vote sound like a mandate to do whatever he chooses whenever he chooses. Yes people were for a health care bill but it does not follow that it means anything congress and the Pres. propose. Also things sound much better in the abstract than when faced with the harsh realities of the consequences.

StraightOuttaPripyat August 18, 2009 at 6:36 pm

New Franklin – The guy that carried the rifle was black. Not sure how racist he is against Obama's policies. Personally, I think he REEKS of being a media plant.

To the rest of you, he was not in a Secret Service controlled zone. He was well outside of their declared perimeter. Their declared security perimeter becomes Federal Porperty during the visit. The Secret Service stated that he never entered that zone, and open carry is totally legal in Arizona, therefore there was no need to arrest him. FYI. Open Carry is and has been legal in Ohio for many years, and is on the resurgence in Ohio. I occasionally practice Open Carry, myself. However, I don't know anyone would that would have the testicular fortitude to carry anywhere near the President. As a non-conservative, LIFE gun owner, this little display personally bothered me.

StraightOuttaPripyat August 18, 2009 at 6:42 pm

Angry,

One thing that you failed to mention, is that his little "majority" can dwindle very quick. Obama's win was a attributed to a combo of 8 years of Bush coupled with no better choices on the ballot, coupled with the novelty of wanting to make history. I don't like Obama's politics particularly, but I thought it was cool to see history made with his election. Obama could have never won without a large(VERY LARGE) segment of whites. Once you get into office, you better become popular, quick, because your support can only diminish if not. Some of those moderates and "change" voters will be very difficult to retain support from. Fortunately, for Obama, he does have the fact that the Repubs have no real solid candidate for Presdient behind them. Strange days, these are.

averagejoe5 August 18, 2009 at 7:15 pm

No NF I am all for a public option.

I am tired of the press making this a race issue and ignoring that it is an issue of the American people being unhappy about a plan that isn't finished.

Fear has always been the DNC strategy. The only thing is they take action and don't know how to stop the repercussions and this is the problem.

If you look at some of my past posts you will see that I am not a big fan of Beck, Rush or Hannity. I feel they all cause more problems than they are worth. They have tapped into a part of America that is paranoid but it is only about 2% of Americans, not a percentage that is significant.

Rev ask the average American what Obama's primary domestic platform was. The answer you will get isn't healthcare. It was change and hope and the fact that Bush was at fault for the economy (instead of the Dems, the ones who really collapsed the whole thing, and on purpose) on top of it add a senile old man and a supposed crazy bitch from alaska, top it off with a ton of lies about not raising taxes and gas rebates, then add communist backers with more money than God and that is how Obama won.
90% of Americans are against the reform, because they don't know the truth about what it entail. Most are for a public option, but they can't find anyone to tell them the whole truth about how it will effect them and their families.

averagejoe5 August 18, 2009 at 7:37 pm

Here is proof about his platform. His acceptance speech….from the original writer….

This was not a Pro Obama Person. The guy who interviewed him was on CNN .
The interview was done by Libertarian radio talk show host Ernest Hancock, was staged. He admitted it was staged. Both of them the person shown here in photo and the guy interviewing him both had guns on them. They said it was staged to show that everyone should be allowed to wear guns and protect themselves. So they thought coming to a Obama speech with weapons was a good idea.
'
"I come from another state where 'open carry' is legal, but no one does it, so the police don't really know about it and they harass people, arrest people falsely," the protester identified as Chris told Hancock in an interview aired by CNN affiliate KNXV. "I think that people need to get out and do it more so that they get kind of conditioned to it."

Would I feel comfortable being in a room with these two wearing guns..no way. It was intimindation , it was threatening and was meant to be so, whether they want to admit it or not. They wanted to rattle the democrats and the President. Stir up the pro gun people.

I guess according to them I need to wear a gun to go to get my hairdone. never know who might be carrying one…back to days of cowboys!

angry conserv August 18, 2009 at 10:09 pm

Well stated Straight

Da King August 19, 2009 at 4:31 am

joe,
All this talk of racism by the Rev and others is just a way of stopping the discussion. That's ALWAYS what it is. It's used to distract away from the fact that the majority of Americans oppose Obama's health care reform, along with several of his other policies.

I'm actually for health care reform, but I don't like a lot of what I've heard so far from the President or Congress, especially when it comes to jacking up taxes on small businesses during a recession. And I'd prefer the health care co-op idea over the government running the show. I'd like to decouple health care from business, have a variety of insurance choices and deductibles, limit tort lawsuits, have national competition, make insurance tax deductible, etc. There's a lot that could be done to improve things.

Here's another thing. I have a friend who has hit upon very rough times, but he doesn't qualify for Medicaid. Right now he is getting all his health care for free at the Cleveland Clinic. Do we want to eliminate that type of thing ? I don't think we do, but I think ObamaCare would eliminate it.

rayy August 19, 2009 at 8:27 am

I think that these gun-nuts are so paranoid about having their guns taken away that it leads to lunacy. In their twisted little brains they believe that if they are removed and get a lot of publicity, it is going to help their cause somehow.

rayy August 19, 2009 at 8:29 am

So "obamacare" would prevent One of "da king"'s friends from receiving "free" care at the Cleveland Clinic, while adding coverage for some 30-45 million people? Horrors.

Da King August 19, 2009 at 10:24 am

I thought liberals were in favor of free health care.

The Reverend August 19, 2009 at 10:47 am

Equitable health care for all…not free.

Pyroclastic Flow August 19, 2009 at 12:45 pm

Rev, What about the welfare hood roaches and white trash that don't want to work? Can we just euthanize them? Sterilize them? Because, they will never be equitable, pull their own weight and I would rather not support them.

The Reverend August 19, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Well, Pyro…then I suggest you push for a new Hyde-type amendment granting all oh-so-conscientious conservatives from having their tax dollars used for welfare.

My question to you would be…..since you easily take offense at any "hood roaches", as you call them, receiving any help paid for with tax dollars….is your conscience that sensitive about the hundreds of billions of tax dollars handed over to "needy" international corporations? Does that bother you at all?

averagejoe5 August 19, 2009 at 2:35 pm

At least the corporations provide jobs and taxpaying employees. We didn't give them the money, they have to pay us back. Hoodrats just work on new ways to work the system.

The Reverend August 20, 2009 at 9:54 am

So you're for welfare….just not for people who need it?

Da King August 20, 2009 at 12:37 pm

I believe what's being said is that we shouldn't have a system that allows people to game the system and collect money indefinitely for doing nothing.
I've wondered about this myself. When society pays for able-bodied people's food, housing, utilities, and health care, and demands nothing in return, allowing them to live without working or contributing, usually based upon those people spitting out a couple kids, how can we be the least bit surprised when society deteriorates as a result ? Compassion is one thing. Enabling is another.

The Reverend August 21, 2009 at 8:51 am

First…it's not true that government does not demand anything from those who receive benefits. That was what Welfare to Work, under Clinton was all about.

Second…it just seems to me that there's some sour grapes over people getting something that others don't. Government hands out huge corporate subsidies….and what do we get in return? Not much, if anything.

Third….it's not appealing to bash the vulnerable and the poor. Why do conservatives continue to do it?

Da King August 22, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Food stamps, Medicaid, WIC, nearly free housing, HEAP, etc. NOTHING is demanded in return. The Clinton/GOP welfare reform was a positive step (wrongly resisted by liberals), but it still didn't solve the problem.

It's not "bashing the poor," Rev. It really gets me po'ed when people put it in those terms. It's about incentivizing them to become something other than poor and give them the ability to stand on their own. It's about the betterment of the individual, as well as society as a whole. Obviously, I except the physically and mentally disabled from that. We should take care of them.

I'd also like to end corporate subsidies. It's not an either/or proposition.

Da King August 22, 2009 at 2:17 pm

I should also mention that those who supported TARP and Obama's stimulus package (overwhelmingly Democrats) have planted themselves firmly IN FAVOR of corporate subsidies.

The Reverend August 23, 2009 at 9:26 am

"Incentivizing them"……..that reminds me of the state representative who said that government sponsored meals for children, who were, like, hungry, …..disincentivized those children from going out and getting a job so they could eat. I mean…WTF?

Yes, there will always be some who will exploit kindness and generosity. But that's no reason to eliminate a nation's compassion for it's people. We're better than that…..at least, I think we are.

jeff October 2, 2009 at 1:35 pm

It's stupid people like you that makes the laws of the founders disappear. It is every americans right to keep and bear arms. just because you dont like it doesnt mean its bad or wrong. I did'nt hear anything about that guy shooting anyone, did you? Time is coming when you'll be glad to have an armed person near you to help in a bad situation. It is the law and our right to open carry weapons. Only the troublemakers hide there guns.
