"Moral Leadership"

by The Reverend on June 23, 2009

in GOP,iran,Iraq,John McCain,moral values,neo-conservatives,torture

America has been involved in imperialistic-minded interference in other nation's governments and elections for as long as I can remember. It's what we do. And I suppose that helps in understanding why America's leading neo-conservatives, senators like Lindsey "Huckleberry" Graham (R-SC), John McCain (R-AZ) and Joe Lieberman (ASSH*LE-CT) have been calling for U.S. interference in the Iranian election dispute. Old habits are difficult to break.

Watch Graham and McCain explain how it's our duty to interfere with other countries. First 2 minutes….

McCain…"America's position in the world is one of moral leadership. And that's what America's all about."

America's "moral leadership" in Iran, over oil, in the 1950's led directly to the dysfunctional Islamic government in Iran today. America's "moral leadership" in Iraq during the 1980's led directly to the rise of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, which led to more American "moral leadership" in the crime and quagmire of today's occupation of Iraq. America's "moral leadership" in Afghanistan during the 1980's led directly to the establishment and strengthening of Bin Laden's extremist group, al-Qaida.

If that's "moral leadership"…..what the hell would immoral leadership look like?

Set aside the 50's and the 80's "moral leadership" for a moment. How has that leadership been on display the last 8 years? America now admits to having savagely tortured detainees held in secret gulags around the world….and reserves the right to continue doing so. THAT'S what America is all about.

America attacked the nation of Iraq, without just cause, and still occupies it today with U.S. military troops and bases. Hundreds of thousands were killed, millions displaced. THAT'S what John McCain calls "moral leadership."

And don't forget that the shameless neo-conservative, John McCain, wanted to spread that American "moral leadership" to the country of Georgia when it was in a dispute with Russia. "We're all Georgians, now", McCain ridiculously insisted.

America's "moral leadership" has been on display in Latin and South America and southeast Asia, and many other places, as the U.S. attempted to mold the world in it's image against the wishes of the people being molded. It's what we do. Meddle in other countries affairs. THAT'S what America is all about.

This messianic mentality, this triumphalistic attitude, is hated by the people of other countries. This "moral leadership" is seen by others for what it actually is…..the mindset and actions of a bully always seeking to get it's own way.

There's an undercurrent throughout American political thought which sees the U.S. as the nation that god, himself, has raised up to do his bidding. Because of such thinking, many Americans deceive themselves into believing that all this "moral leadership" that McCain talks about, no matter how abhorrent, no matter how bloody, is god's will…..that no matter how we interfere or who we interfere with….it is always the right thing to do, because we are America, god's new chosen people….and as McCain said, "moral leadership is what America is all about."

Many of today's Republicans are just itching to spread that "moral leadership" to the streets of Iran.

Geeez, didn't your mother teach you anything "Do as I say, not as I do". And questioning how has our moral leadership been on display for the last 8 years? You don't give us enough credit, perhaps 16 years, or 49 years? Government would be great if we could just take the politics out of it.

  • larry d.

You've stated Obama will restore this nation's "moral leadership" many times, Reverend.

  • averagejoe5

You have to have morals before you can provide moral leadership. …..I don't think washington is the place anyone should be looking for morals. Especially in this current administration. Most of them should probably be in jail.

  • Da King

Nice job defending the Ayatollahs, Rev. Does your "moral leadership" include tacit approval of repressive regimes ? Mine doesn't.

  • angry conserv

It seems there is never an easy answer. My first thought was to eliminate the worlds problems we could turn our nations nuclear arsenal on ourselves and eliminate the US. But that would contaminate the earth and casue great suffering to others. There must be some way to eliminate the evil empireeand not damage the enviornment or harm the other citzens of the world.

  • The Reverend

angry…you never fail to give me a boost with your comments. Good stuff.

King…no defense of the Ayatollahs. It's just that Iranians should decide what's best for them. Neo-cons disagree.

larry…I've said that Obama will be a good role model for the country. I haven't changed my mind about that.

average…in jail? Already? They haven't even done anything yet….well…except where Obama has followed in the footsteps of W.

  • averagejoe5

I don't mean only the Obama admin, I am also including congress. Both Dems and Reps. The old congressional guard is one of our biggest problems.

Obama's people are just a bunch of 1/2 truth tellers, he is not a man of his word, he is not a good role model(unless you want your kids to lie alot). These tactics will eventually catch up to him and he will lose the confidence of the people, it's already happening.
Just like a boss that promises you a $1 and hour raise and when your raise comes through it's only $.50. Even though it's a raise it isn't what he promised.

  • angry conserv

I think I have the answer, tell me if I am right Rev. Obama and the drones will strip the power and wealth from the Haves, emasculate the Have a Little and Want Mores and govern in the name of the Have Nots. This will result in an America that has neither the will or abillity to impose its evil ways on the rest of the world.

  • Da King

Rev says, "…that Iranians should decide what's best for them. Neo-cons disagree."

All I've heard is Republicans asking Obama to stand in support of freedom and against oppression, which is where America should always stand.

And guess what ? Obama, at long last, got off the moral relativism fence and provided some…moral leadership.

"We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people. The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights." – Barack Obama

Better late than never, I guess.

  • larry d.

It's time to do the 180 thing Reverend. The poll numbers have been analyzed so Master has thrown your argument under the bus once again.

  • The Reverend

    Wake up Rumpelstiltskins.

You guys have to pay more attention. I've never seen so many slow-learners.

Or are you guys all seamstresses? Making daily clothing out of whole cloth to hide your cluelessness.

  • Da King

Was that supposed to be a response, Rev ? It wasn't.
