Democrat Socialist Party

by The Reverend on May 14, 2009

in economy,social security

Jebby Bush, Willard Romney and Eric "Can Do" Cantor sat around answering questions of constituents the other weekend explaining how they were "listening" to the American people, to their GOP constituents, as they strategized a plan of comeback for the party which only 21% of Americans now identify with.

That intention was quickly flushed down the commode when Mr. Limbaugh chastised those within the GOP who say they need to "listen." "Can Do" Cantor quickly corrected himself in an ugly self-loathing, "I am Rush's bitch", kind of moment.

The alternative to listening? Childishly renaming the opposition party. Out of touch doesn't even come close here. If the GOP were a bus….it would be currently rolling over and over in the middle of the highway, and headed directly into a gasoline tanker.

The "Democrat Socialist Party." Yes sir. That will most certainly lift those 21% identification numbers.

Watch this 7 minute piece from yesterday's Hardball on MSNBC. Listen carefully to Lawrence O'Donnell take apart the utter silliness about socialism and America…

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

We are all socialists and have been for 60 years.
O'Donnell asks Buchanan why he, when running for president, didn't campaign on ending Social Security and Medicare….if he believed so strongly that socialism was evil. Buchanan's response was mentioning Goldwater's unpopularity when he advocated for just such a change.

O'Donnell's comeback…
"You just can't say what you really mean, then, when you run from the right wing…can you?"

The GOP must change their ideas. Their ideas are not popular with Americans. That's why Republican candidates can't "say what they really mean". The GOP's ideas have been played out live during the Bush era and they have been thoroughly rejected.

Officially renaming the Democratic Party the Democrat Socialist Party is simply more stupidity in a long line of really stupid stuff. The GOP is in denial about their policy ideas and principles. America is not a center-right nation and does not subscribe to the failed and bankrupt ideas Republicans cling to.

As O'Donnell rightly mocks, the Tea Party protests and Democrat Socialist Party renaming nonsense…..is nonsense.

We've all been socialists for a very long time.

The only reason people don't identify with Republicans is that economy is bad and they blame the Republicans for it. Just like they blamed Democrats for the economy in the late 70's. The rest really doesn't matter until the ecomony is going well.

  • The Reverend

Could be. However, those numbers started plummeting before the economy turned sour.

  • Martin

Sorry rev,The folks that named it the Democratic Socialist Party missed it It is a offshoot of the last party whose candidates were Gust Hall and runningmate Angela Davis whose slogan was "Vote for a Real Change" Just like the real change that you espouse. You are one of those real changers and your children will regret your politics-YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME,ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME BUT YOU CANT FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME. WE ALL WILL BE SORRY FOR the POLITICS of "YOUR" democratic party.

  • The Reverend

One thing I know for sure….people can fool themselves. 20% are still fooled by the Torture & Terror Twins.

  • Da King

I agree the RNC's resolution to rebrand it the Democrat Socialist Party is pretty stupid. It's trivial and nobody cares.

But we are not, as you and the lame-brained O'Donnell contend, all socialists now. The word is being misapplied.

    socialism -
    1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
    2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
    3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

In this country, we don't collectively own business (the means of production and distribution), capital, or land. We aren't transitioning to communism either (I hope). We're not marxists (at least most of us aren't).

Some on the left fit the socialist label, but the vast majority of our country does not. The vast majority would be outraged if we really became socialist (which is why further moves in that direction are met with resistance).

  • The Reverend

National health care would push us over the socialist edge, wouldn't it? You know, "further moves in that direction."

O'Donnell is a lame-brain, huh? And me too, huh? And we're lame brains because we point out that many aspects of our national existence are already socialized. But those who are calling Obama a socialist who is hell bent in his attempt to make America a socialist nation are not lame-brained.

  • Da King

Obama is moving us in a more socialist direction. That comes automatically with a bigger and bigger centralized government. George W. Bush also moved us in that direction.

But if you still don't understand the difference between being a socialist country and a gradual drift in that direction, keep re-reading my previous post until you do. I get tired of your cognitive dissonance.

  • The Reverend

Please answer this: Are western European countries socialistic? If they are, why do they also practice market capitalism?

  • Da King

Depends on the western European country. Several of them are quasi-socialist, but there is still private wealth, so they are capitalist too. That's what capitalism is, wealth in the hands of the private sector.

    Why do you ask ?

  • The Reverend

Because European countries are like America. Capitalistic AND socialistic.
